I finally get around to fixing the leaky brake lines after they blew during the last MOT! This one was fiddly and a pain to film in parts (expect some questionable, Blair Witch quality filming!!).

Lee - before you start driving the car in anger I would replace the rusty coolant pipes that run between the front and back of the car. If they fail, you'll probably blow the head gasket. Stainless steel replacements are readily available. Good luck with the re-test :-)

RE: Jacking it up. I've never jacked my TF using the cills - I always lift it under the subframes. On the rear the middle brace is solid as all hell and it's easy to get a jack under. And at the front where the air-dam meets the subframe is a solid place too. You can stick a piece of wood along in front of the air-dam too. Then axle stands on the frames of both subframes keeps it nice and solid. In my experience jacking even new cars on the cills just ends in tears.

Another great video, I held my breath when you were going up the ramps (with no brakes). Agree with the other comments, have a look for ss pipes. My t-piece was rotten and ended up relocating it. You made a neat job of it 👍

Hello lee, I made a long vacation trip with my Mg tf 135 from Germany to Corsica. The Mg drove fantastic and perfect without problems. After about 3500 km arrived at home, the main clutch cylinder was defective in front of my front door. What luck! If your MG is technically ok, I wish you happy journeys. Greetings from Germany

Hi Lee, what a video this was for me personally. Been following for a while. Every bit of pain you are going through, I have been there. Down to, I changed front, rear and underbody brake pipes to my 2003 MGTF in Jan lockdown. I too could not undo the pipes from the t piece. I too sheared the stud holding the t piece on. I also came up with the exact solution you did. I used a shelving bracket from a well known orange hardware store to fashion the new fixing solution for the t piece on the now shorter stud. Wish this vid was out in dec last year. Keep going mate. You will be at a pub in the sunshine too admiring the fact that your hard work got you there.

Good to see you back Lee. A horrible job to do under the car and glad to see you had no massive spills on your new drive

Another great video, Lee. 👌 thank you for the shout out as well! 🙏 Looking forward to phase 2, fingers crossed you can get the rust sorted before the end of the summer. What’s the plan for phase 3 in the winter?

I'm not sure they were meant to be double flare, but if it works, it works. :) I did mine single flare (mushroom) when doing from the T-piece to the rear brake line. Seems to work fine too.

Think you’re right. The original pipes on mine at the rear were single flares.

Love your "bodge job" fitting the gunson cap on the brake master cylinder reservoir! So disappointing they don't include a suitable fitting in the kit. Also the workaround for the sheared bolt! Are you sure that was the bonnet release cable? Not a vacuum line to the servo?

Great video looks a neat job, I liked the work around for the tee piece mounting bracket. I agree with broomads comment to consider replacing the coolant pipes with stainless ones, it's a lot easier than replacing a blown head gasket !

I’ve been waiting for this one! Excellent, clear guide (apart from when you sounded like you were expiring underneath the car!) and a great outcome. Was there a special trick to avoiding destroying the plastic clips that held on the brake lines beyond extreme caution?

Thanks James, not really although twisting a flat head screwdriver in the opening helps them out.

My solution on mine was to just buy new ones, my car is a 2002 and they'd gone super brittle. They're not expensive at Rimmer Bros.

Love your have a go attitude... I think however you should have only used operation one on the flaring tool into the t piece. Clearly the original pipe had a male flare on it. After a while the seal may fail on your new pipe

Hey Lee. Good to see you back. I don’t know if the TF is the same but on the F there is a central jacking point behind the engine at the rear so you don’t have to jack up on the sills. (There is a central one at the front too)

Looking under your car, I'm noticing all the parts I've already replaced, and all the money you're going to have to spend to replace them all fairly soon. Rather you than me. 😆 Coolant pipes, compliance bushes, front mountings on the rear subframe, etc... So many things. Wishing you good luck!

I have enjoyed all your vids Lee, very informative and interesting, but I have to say, the number of adverts is now a bit much. I get that a few quid will obviously help with the rebuild, but it is now very off-putting. Sorry mate, that's just my thoughts.

Appreciate the honest feedback John, they're pretty much automatic but will see if I can make them less intrusive in the next one 👍
