If you're going to install just one line then get ni-copp, not that much more and will never rust again. Plus you can bend by hand, easier to work with. However I would actually recommend buying a complete set of brake lines and replacing all, cause if one goes out the others aren't far behind and like you said your life is on the line.

I have a '97 Ford F150. Probably time to check those brake lines. But AFTER I try to repair or replace the severely rusted frame and brake lines on my '93 GMC "Jimmy". I got the lines loose that are below the master cylinder. BUT the lines and fittings to the rear are really rusted. May not be able to clean and repair. May wind up with new lines and new brake hose. While I'm doing this, I experiment with other ways. BTW. I don't have a lift. I must raise this rust bucket, and crawl on the floor under this heap, with crap falling in my face. By heating the brass or steel end of the rear brake hose to expand it, I blew the rubber brake hose. Oh well, just another trip to Advance Auto/Car Quest. I watched a video of this gal who made her own rust solvent/ penetrator. She used a 50/50 mix of acetone and trany fluid. This takes many attempts. Soak with solvent. Let set for an hour or two. Then put the torch to heat the brass fitting, not the nut. Brass should expand from the heat so the nut will loosen This worked on the front fittings.

Spray your steel brake lines and fuel lines with aerosol rustproofing oil. They will never rust again.I do this every time my car is on a hoist for an oil change.
@ozzstars_cars
@ozzstars_cars 6 лет назад
Phil are you sure it won't rust again forever?
@philtrottier4442
@philtrottier4442 6 лет назад
Yes, use a coat of Fluidfilm rustproofing oil,available at Walmart or any others like Rustcheck or Krown. They are available in aerosol spray can. Never use undercoating or used motor oil for this because it can trap moisture and can make the steel rust faster.I live in the rust belt.

If you were just replacing a small bad straight section, say of 10 inches with new line with two SAE inverted flare unions,one on each end, how much shorter should you cut your new section piece to allow for the two unions that weren't there originally?
@ozzstars_cars
@ozzstars_cars 5 лет назад
Depends on the union length. Do a test mock up first to give you a better idea. Without seeing it in person I can't say.

Just cut the backs off. Hit the lines from the ABS module with some sand paper (clean metal) then bleed (Ez), crimp the tips. heat the tips with a propane torch put some flux on, then get the cutting torch out and just weld the backs off. LOL.. When the backs are so far gone and the car is worth 1200... Roll out with brakes. 30 min job. Back on the road. As long as the beater got the heater. And GOOD front brakes! DO at your own risk. It's a money saver if you got no options.

did the same line you did 2 days ago F250, did it in copper/Nickle, got it all flared up, tightened everything, open the bleeder valve, pressed the peddle a few times, went under the truck, nothing, then i looked up towards the front of the truck, line upfront burst at the master to the ABS controller. you just can't win when it comes to Fords.
