In this video I'm replacing the turbocharger, intercooler, intake and whole lot more on my cheap Volvo V70R. Follow my car instagram: / wheelemverb /////////////////// Business inquiries: Willem@fearlessotter.com
Found your channel by accident browsing repair vids for my own Volvo :) So happy to see there are Volvo addicts avross the pond. Greetings from Sweden !
@@bren.nan_ The Volvo museum in Gothenburg if you like Volvo's :) Would also recomend the Saab museum in Trollhettan. The Saab museum is a small museum, but still a very nice experience :) 'm from Norway and was there summer 2023 with wife and kids, they all liked it too :)
Seriously one of the best automotive channels out there right now. This is what the new wave of automotive RU-vid needs to be. I've been watching the whole series and can't wait to keep seeing the progression. Keep killing it Willem!
It's gonna sound somewhat stupid but I think the best part of this video is the fact you took the time to clean your parts when you had them apart. That shows a level of deep care that most people don't think about.
17:44 = reminded me of the zip tie trick. Put a zip tie through the gasket and one of the holes. That holds it in place while you get the other bolt started loosely. Then cut the zip tie and pull it out. Install the other bolt and you're done. No goop to cause you grief later.
I like the V70R original manifold's rugged sound but the deep notes of the Japanifold are great too. It's a hard choice between either, but I like the off the line sound of the R much more.
The japanifold (as well as the 850/x70s) are designed with runners with lengths that flow much more efficiently according to the firing order. This is why the R manifold sounds raspy, and the Japanafold, etc…sound like baby V10s. The way Porsche meant them to sound.
R mani flows better. just look at it. that square shaped "japanifold" is obviously a loss in terms of power and head flow. not sure y anyone would want to make it more difficult for that ehaust gas to leave that cylinderhead. cant beat a tubular equal length setup tho
As a guy who's worked on Toyota's, Honda's, and Subaru's, it's really fascinating watching your videos on this project and seeing what car design is like on the other side of the pond. But at the end of the day, hands always have to get dirty.
For someone who hasn't done any serious parts replacement on a car since a '66 Mustang, parts of this were terrifying to watch. You do beautiful work. Everything looks so good when you're done. Really glad you're spending your money on these Volvo parts instead of, say, a new Hasselblad... ✌
As a fellow V70R owner, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate these videos. You even inspired me to track down some of those two-tone Carhartt WIP pants!
greetings from sweden, i think that you are the best volvo youtuber out there detailed instructions and you do the things any dedicated volvo owner would want to do to their volvo. thank you a volvo s60 freak from sweden
Awesome work dude. I actually like that it's not all flashy but also some more sensible work. And whatever you're doing with this format, keep doing it, you've got 100% my retention, just sat and watched this whole thing non stop. That's real rare nowadays for me. :)
Recent subscriber from across the pond…I’m sorry to say i don’t hear a difference between the two on my tv…But the experience you gain with projects like these shouldn’t be understated..I like the content and keep up the good work grtz from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
We should call you ‘Tenacious Will’, with all this brilliant work you are carrying out on the R! Have had mine for 2 weeks now and absolutely love it!💙
It is great to see young people who are not afraid to get their hands dirty working on a car. Your fearless approach to the challenges you faced are heartwarming. Knowing that a single change in the system can lead to many more downline and going forth and tackling it all was great to see. Thanks for the great video and lessons on HotRod updates on the R.
Man I have been loving your videos so much! Theyre so well made, genuinely on par / better than a lot of the more popular channels. Ive seen every video of this series and its been a blast! Sending my props to you all the way over from Czechia, keep it up!
Thank you very much for your content, I love the pleasant atmosphere you convey in your videos. It's really rare nowadays without a lot of talking and loud music. Greetings from Germany :)
First time watching your channel not on my phone and just wanted to say I really appreciate all the 4K clarity! I can really see what you're working on and kudos for the full 4K workflow.
Awesome job man, you can really tell how after everything is finally back together with all that hard work, on his first pull, listening if everything is fine followed by that smirk and finally relief settles in. Nothing beats this type of feeling.
Huge fan of your channel. The fact you don't just throw new parts on and go is awesome and what these cars deserve. Lifelong Volvo fan and love seeing this icon getting proper love ❤. Also big difference in sound with japanifold. Sounds like it should. Also airflow is designed and engineered better than the standard R manifold.

Dude, great videos, keep going i love them. I had P2 2.5 for 5 years and your car is DREAAAAM!
Great job Willem! Did a similar job to my 05 Forester XT. Turbo, downpipe, up pipe, intercooler, 3port BCS and intake. It totally transformed the car and it makes some unreal turbo sounds. I can definitely empathise with feeling like it would've never been put together and the accomplishment of completing it all was equally as great as hearing the turbo spool and whoosh the first time! Well done once again!
You've got my subscription/like, and while there isn't much to reharden the stuff that you do that I can apply to my Volvo ; because I live in Europe and there are far more diesel D5 than R models, the quality of the videos and the fact that you're working alone will keep me interested in this series.
Doing the mechanical work is one thing that he does right... filming the whole process and editing the video is another great part. Congrats man ! And without loudly music
Dam dude way to go. It is coming along. Impressed with your work. Love to see this come out. I have always loved Paul Newman's Volvo wagon I believe a Ford 5.0 kick ass. Best of luck on this project
You did great bruh! I am so proud that you’ve clean the angle gear! Ppl just put that stuff back on without doing so. I wonder if you would have started the car to make sure the seals to the turbo doesn’t leak before buttoning everything up completely? Brave man!
I found your channel by accident, I've always liked cars and I've always liked Volvos. I'm loving your videos, keep it up. Congratulations! Greetigs from Brazil!
I’ll Be honest I found your channel today and have been watching all day just looking for other car content creators and I don’t think anything your doing is boring because it’s educational and fun to watch can’t wait for the future of this car hopefully in a year you’ll be pushing like 600hp lol
I dont own a Volvo. I dont plan to buy one, but jeez this channel is just pure gold! Stumbled over this channel couple months ago, and it’s just too good. Some of the best car content on this platform.
Beautiful work!! It sounds much better I am a volvo lover. It is impressive what improvements you can do. Your Volvo will be much better than a new one. You seem to be very knowledgeable with Volvos. You make things look easy. Great job!!!
I am wrenching on a Golf mk4 1.9 TDI and found this channel by accident when I was looking for something, so glad I've found it! I really enjoy watching your journey with this beautiful Volvo. I am thinking about starting another project and can't yet decide what car to pick.
Been following the build since you bought the v70r, loving the progress, been looking at getting a Volvo wagon myself (probably why I found your channel) and it definitely cool seeing the car and its journey :)
Awesome build man! I'm super jelly 😅 Always loved the 5cyl Volvo engines. Your V70R already sounded super cool before, but that added crispy pop is just.. *chefs kiss* 👌😁 Cheers from Denmark!
bro these old Volvos are so underrated I appreciate every one that is kept in good shape up and running and not driven into the ground and disposed. There is a tendency for Volvos to end up like that because with the bare minimum of maintenace they last so long. These Videos hella motivate me to keep my 2007 Diesel model in top notch. A Diesel Volvo is a unicorn in itself 😅 and I dont see the point of not taking care of your stuff. Also the D5244T engine that was Volvos mainline Diesel for many years is legendary for standing out in terms of reliabilty and longevity along most european diesels. So I know 250k kilometers on the odo now is nothing. I want to clean out the EGR system and change the automatic transmission fluid this spring along a standard service (oil, filters etc). And look into a set of Bilstein B6 OE replacement struts to improve the ride.
That was super satisfying! Love the vids. Any interest in doing any P80 projects…like a manual 03-04 C70 convertible perhaps? In any case, keep ‘em coming!!😊
Absolutely love the V70R. I almost bought one twice but just couldn’t get a good deal on them when new. This is such a cool project. Can’t wait to see how it continues to evolve 👍
What a skilled mech and cameraman you are! Like your channel and wish I could do some work like that on my 2.5 V70! But its quite encouraging! Greets from Hamburg!
Just finished binge watching every video on your channel last night. Loved every minute. Sold off my Volvos, but your videos helped me to scratch that itch to hear a proper T5 exhaust note. Nothing compares, except for maybe Volkswagen VR6 and W8 engines. And that's coming from a JDM fan who hates European cars... Your channel also reminded me why I shouldn't consider getting another Volvo 😅. As boring as my 2003 GS300 is, it at least doesn't drain my bank account nearly as quick as my 2.5T and 3.2 Volvos did...
Happened to stumble upon this gem of a channel! Happy to see some love for Volvo's. Are you going to remap this? Any plans for older Volvo's? Subscribed and greetings from Finland!
Not sure what's normally done with intercoolers, but with full metal radiators it's normal to have rubber mounting. Alu stress cracks easily, just like a brass radiator.
There's definitely a little difference, I don't know if it's as big as many people say but definitely there and I thinks it's better... can't wait for the manual swap ;) and a front bumper respray cause it deserves some love
Sounds like the noise level but the Japanese manifold sounds deeper! The burbles and pops are nice and idk if it’s just me but the the turbo spools are more prominent as well! Overall great amount of work out into this car! The correct way as well. Love the videos! Can’t wait to see where you take it :)
Japanifold sounds a little more raw and aggressive for sure - personally I love both but prefer the japanifold. Even non-volvo car enthusiasts will definitely notice a moderate difference. Regardless of what mods you decide on next, I am already excited for them. Rebuilding a family relic of a V70 2.5t alongside your build!
Well Done Lad. Keep it up. The Japanifold sounds smoother but IDK I like the Stock R Manifold more but I might change my mind if I hear it in Person. Loving the Videos I need more stupid I mean super financially sound ideas in the future.
