Replacing the leaking front inner axle seals on the Excursion

The front passenger side inner axle seal on the Excursion started leaking a couple of months ago. I decided to take this project on myself as my mechanic friend doesn’t have a lift big enough to handle the EX. Since I have never done this before, I watched a few videos to learn the process, and bought a couple of specialized tools for the job. Below are the links for the key tools and parts:
Inner seal installation tool:
torqueking.com...
Hub vacuum seal installation tool:
tinyurl.com/2r...
Seal kit from Ventures Truck Parts:
venturestruckp...

Thanks! Nice thorough job, camera work and narration. It was reassuring to see you struggle with the same items as I did (hub nuts, seal/axle removal) as other videos or instructions simply say “remove” or “it comes right out”.

Thanks. Nothing comes loose as easy as a lot of instructional videos show 😁

Thanks. The right tools and time are critical imho to get the job done right.

I'm currently doing this job, however after consideration, I've decided there's a high chance the diff carrier bearing may very well likely be the culprit, and since I'm already in there with axles removed, might as well... I do NOT want to do this job again anytime soon.

Good call. I should have done everything when I did this. I just got my truck inspected, and the inspector said one of my front ball joints is on its way out, so now I have to redo all the work I did, since the axles have to come out to replace the ball joints :(. I'm also going to do all the steering parts while I am in there. Making sure whatever could be replaced does so I won't touch the front end again😬

Pretty awesome video! 100% hats off to you for getting into it and sharing your experience while doing it. You definitely showed us how easily, yet time consuming, it can be done when you just go slow and make sure to do it as a process of smaller jobs instead of looking at it as one daunting task. Thank you!

For a first time job, I gotta say you did a most excellente job! But, although they seemed to be in good condition you might should have replaced them U-joints, lol, bcoz you know what's going to go bad next😄those U-joints!!! And then you're going to have to take everything back apart again, ask me how I know this...😀 That being said, you did a great job my friend!👏 👍👍

Thanks. You’re right though. The u joints are probably next. I was so excited about getting the seals done and driving that I didn’t bother touching them 😁

For a novice like me, having the right tools and parts to do the job is a tremendous asset, and I always give props to people and companies who make it possible. Thanks 👍

Thank you! I'm getting ready to do this exact repair. I will have to do my ball joints, tie rod and ends, etc. Further, I'll have to do my U joints. And just yesterday I see I have to do new springs all around. Thanks for taking us step by step. It looked like a real pro job.

Thanks. Luckily the rest of the front end was in great shape, so I don’t have to worry about it for now. However; the suspension needs to be addressed at some point, but not an emergency.

Hey brother, did your inner axle seals look different than the spicer ones you got? Like was it a different design? I just took my old ones out and they look different than the spicer ones I got was just making sure I got the correct ones, I ordered same ones you used.

They looked exactly the same, otherwise we would have noticed. Sorry man.

@littlemissgracing6515 no worries, I found out the spicer ones I got are the newer recommend seals for the 99f250 and the old one I took out are obsolete. Thank you

@@azeeninety55 OK. I am glad it worked out. One thing to check if you haven't wrapped up the job is all the wear items like ball joints and u joints. I checked the u joints, but never bothered with the ball joints, and now the state inspection station told me the ball joints are starting to go and I won't pass inspection, so I have to do those... lesson learned.😡

Northern Tools 1/2" impact socket in size 1-1/4" also works to push out the axle seal. It barely slides through the white plastic guide, but it works.

I’m a lifetime Ford technician and own an F250 Superduty Crewcab…. But I learned about axle guides from this video… I’m going to rebuild my brother’s Superduty next week so now I know what tools to take in case the Dentist doesn’t have them….😂

Thanks. 😁. This channel is a learning experience for me more than a teaching channel. So many things I never thought I could do, turns out I could with a little research, time, right attitude, and the right tools. Some tools I decided to spend the money on, but others I did try to find alternatives that didn’t cost as much, and I could use them for other things.

It's pretty obvious you haven't done it before. You remove axle by prying on the back in by u-joint amd tube as to not damage vacumm seal😢
@littlemissgracing6515
@littlemissgracing6515 9 месяцев назад
The kit I got from Ventures had all new seals including the vacuum seals,, but yes, as I mentioned in the video, I have never done this before, and could imagine what experienced people who’ve done this multiple times would think. That’s how we learn 😃
