Keeping a TR3 on the road took many hours of wrenching. I'm too old to use tools these days so it's a pleasure to watch work.

My first car at fifteen was a ‘76 TR7. I mowed lawns and worked at a marina to save up for it. Good memories.

Yes, please, more triumph videos. I have never ridden in, drove, or knew anyone that had a tr7. So I'd like to learn more about them.

Haha, you're dead right about the studs! It took me almost two months to get the head off mine for that exact reason 😮 I didn't know you had a TR7, I hope to see more of it soon!

Nice job! Funny what a few years soaking in oil will do to those rubber mounts.

I've been through a Bugeye Sprite, MGA, MGB-GT, two TR7s (Which are a pretty good car once you re-assemble one, and yes I took off a badly seized cylinder head with several tools not considered appropriate for the job.) and a TVR2500M now sitting in a trailer waiting for its turn. Never my only transportation available but mostly daily drivers when our Maine winters begin to evaporate each spring. I envy your ability to find these vehicles as well as the gumption to bring them back to life. Your videos have encouraged me to shelve my excuses and put the TVR back together this year. Great series!

I’m 6’1” and drove a TR7. I can’t believe how it accommodated my frame. I’ve been wanting one of those since I was a kid. I’m 53 now.

I live in a rural area of Missouri, I remember about 10 years after the TR7 came out you could be driving along on a rural road and see a TR7 sitting somewhere in lawn or a fencerow. It has been many years since I have seen one for sale anywhere. A fellow I knew bought one in 1980 and could not figure out why it was not running right, especially when he let off the throttle. I asked him if he had checked to see if the oil level in the dashports on the SUs was correct, of course he had not. It was a shame that the TR7s were not well sorted since the TR6 was a good car.

Hi Steve. You always surprise us with another " new" car ! I' m sure the car is original but the bonnet /hood looks like a V8 type ,maybe tied in with the air con pump ? And you're right that engine was not one of Triumphs greatest moments ! Thanks Steve .

The aftermarket engine and transmission mounts use urethane that's much MUCH harder than the originals. They're supposed to damp out vibrations, which is why they were pretty soft to begin with. But today's hard materials may look like they're doing an impressive job of minimizing wobbly vibration, while in fact they're just transmitting that vibration into the car where it's not a good thing at all. If you find yourself replacing any more of those transmission mounts, let me know - I'm collecting them to strip out the metal parts and recast the urethane with a softer (original-style) grade, and I only have a couple to work with while I do my experiments. P.S. - the TR8 mounts used to be a bit stiffer than the TR7 ones to cope with the higher engine power and vibration levels, but today they're all made with urethane that's as hard as a bowling ball, so it really doesn't matter which one you choose.

Has the TR7 been resprayed Steve? Reason I ask: any red Triumphs I've seen, especially TR7s, tend to have faded over time, turning an almost pinky white colour. That one looks to have good paint. Of course, it could be a climate thing. Yours isn't enduring Scottish weather.😁

Yeah, what a shame that the TR7 developed such a bad rep. The coupe was the typical odd Bertone wedge. A far cry (waaaaaah!) from the trim TR models that preceded it. But when Triumph brought out the convertible, then it became a real looker! Please do more TR7 maintenance & improvement videos Would be good to know if a replacement head can be had that is not aluminum? Even better, a conversion kit ... that improved head with an improved bolt-down arrangement.

I am surprised there is not more cussing. When I do stuff like motor mounts - it is messy, getting the clearances to remove it are painful and it takes a long time. We need to see the edits you left on the computer, Steve.

In the last WEEK or so, I have run across ads for a TR7 and then a TR8, both with " frozen " clutches. Is changing a clutch/removing a clutch on either car so incredibly difficult that folks all but give them away in desperation? (BOTH cars were priced UNDER $5,000.)

Most of the aftermarket engine and transmission mounts are poor quality and much too hard so you may get lots of extra noise and vibration from them. One of the tricks is to use the transmission mount from a Volvo 740/840 which are almost identical and easily adapted to fit. The original equipment quality mounts are still available for them and I have fitted them on my TR7s.
