Today I scratch my arms all up and replace valve cover gasket on this Ford Triton. This video lacks some actual wrenching but is sufficient in addressing the key parts or steps required in removing the passenger side valve cover. Also installing the new gasket and re installation of the valve cover itself. But this job is a bit of a pain. So Heads up with that

insight to anyone attempting 2v, valve cover gasket replacemment mine as well pull intake manifold replace manifold gasket will need done anyway known failure. valve covers are a breeze with intake manifold out of the way. might be little extra wrenching and money but your truck and your patience will appreciate the extra step.

That’s the first thing I do when I get a 5.4 2v, great point! And while the intake is off, throw in a new set of Autolites.

Just discovered I've got oil leaking onto my '02 5.4l exhaust manifold from the valve cover as well. Bought the truck used less than a year ago so it's sat for a good bit of it's life. Already did the intake manifold and it's gaskets. I just prey those 8mm's come out since mine are rusted.

I always use 3M trim adhesive on all my valve cover gaskets to hold them to the valve cover. The shit is phenomenal. You just use it sparingly in small one inch lines along the perimeter. You will never again have a gasket fall out when installing. I have used that same technique for just about everything you can imagine, thermostats, bypass hose blocks, throttle body gaskets, oil pans, tranny gaskets, diffs & more. I worked for 30 years in automotive heating & cooling systems and it’s never failed me. Before the internet mob tries to give me a load of shit…would it be better to use nothing and have a gaping hole where your gasket was supposed to be? 3M makes some of the best automotive products money can buy in my opinion. Git er’ done!

Wow! What a PITA! I've been driving Fords all my life and a 2002 F250 is the first "newer" one I've had. I picked up a few ideas watching your video, so, thanks for that, but, damn... Ford certainly DID NOT CONSIDER SERVICE PEOPLE when they designed their newer vehicles! I like working on the Cleveland or Windsor powered stuff!

Okay, now I subscribed and got some questions. Is oil loss the main reason to attack the valve cover and gasketing? I have a 2002 F-250 @ 225,000 miles and I have spotting, oil visible on the passenger side slightly below the exhaust manifold. I would top off the oil and about 3 weeks later need another quart or two. Mind you do DO NOT have any spotting on the ground. No puddles, no dripping when standing still. I am guessing it's disappearing when traveling. How long did it take you to change it out? What sealant did you use to hold down the gasket to the valve cover?

I've got to do this on my '99 and I'm dreading it. Great video though!

I have this same problem with my 4.6 f150. I saw another video for replacing the gasket. The guy used high temp rtv silicone to help the gasket sit better he then add weight to the top of his valve cover while the silicone cured to help keep it in place. Easier to install that way.

My 2005 is leaking. I’m gonna try and tackle it next weekend. Hopefully I’ll be able to get it done. I’ll try to remember to bring my seal removers for that gasket when reinstalling the screws. Less of a chance to poke a hole in it (in theory 😂)

Jake Not From State Farm: Did you do the job? What was the reason to change it? Were you experiencing oil loss? How many miles are on the truck?

Long story short, I haven’t done it. I was going to because I was having oil loss. I was having trouble finding the leak and finally spotted it coming from the backside of the valve cover.

Heck my f-250 has a heated rear step bumper to keep your hands warm when you push and your butt warm when you're resting 🤣

That was a joke ! I have had mine sense 04 its a 01 and the only other thing than the valve covers i have had to do to it had a wire to the ignition switch burn out and stranded me 100 miles from home once .

They all have this issue at some point. My Chevrolet takes less time and much less frustration to accomplish this particular task. Fords design here is horrid.

I'm sensing that this guy isn't the biggest fan of Ford..... I have a Ford, and hear bad things about Chevy and GMC... Wonder if the grass is greener on the other side.
