Thanks for the great advice - I have an Akai GXC-46 top loader c.1971/2. I got a new set of belts from a supplier in Italy. They look fine but deck still sitting with cover removed and belts not fitted yet. Must get round to it...Loving that Pioneer and Teac R2R you have there. Greetings from England..!

Thanks for this video man. I grabbed a system and I think I need belts. The belts aren't broken but they're off track. Would you say it's likely theyre warn out or should I try to put them back? I did once already and failed, but it could've been my placement.
I find many cassette decks don't have a line fuse for over current protection so I put 1 in on the primary I do work in the electronics field so I know how to do it I showed a service center my work he thinks it is great idea I made videos of me putting it in and put in description to consult a authorized service center before doing
Best belts w low Wow and Flutter? been looking but who knows? Are any make in the USA? even if you find some good Quality belts and later buy from the same source does not mean you will get the same quality since its a different batch made and even if its the w the same Part # Note- most from china, are not consistent in making the rubber. other have said that the German belts have the same problem good and let me know if anybody has found a good source?
Most cassette decks drop the voltage down to 3v-24v right after the transformer. So avoid the incoming primary of 120v as much as possible. I've worked on a lot of equipment and usually power amps are the main offenders of the audio world for shock as the capacitors and power rails are of higher value. Most on CD and cassette players are minimal but can give a good tingle if hit. Its always best to work with the unit UNPLUGGED and leave the units power switch ON to drain the caps for a few hours prior to touching, best bet is to drain any capacitors of 40v or higher with a discharge tool or basic 100w incandescent bulb to be on the safe side. Work smart, and be safe. Never be afraid of electricity, it's a good friend when respected and worked with properly.
