Replicating Disney Concept Art by Eyvind Earle : Lady and the Tramp Bella Notte Scene

In this speed painting demo I use gouache to replicate Eyvind Earle's concept art for the romantic "Bella Notte" scene from Disney's 1955 classic, Lady and the Tramp. I absolutely love this image, with the misty green background, glowing lanterns, and Eyvind's famous, stylized trees. Replicating this illustration taught me a lot about atmospheric perspective and how to get my glow on ;)

3/4" flat head watercolour brush

I really do appreciate your tutorials. Not only are the paintings gorgeous they are so helpful for someone like me who is very new to gouache and is just starting to do art again.

I'm so happy to hear that my tutorials are helpful for you! It's really great that you're getting back into making art, that's not always an easy thing to do. I think it takes courage to pick up a brush, pencil, etc. especially if you haven't done it in a long time. Creativity is one of the most important aspects to being alive and something I think everyone should take part in! Yay! And thank you so much for your comment! Beautiful! I went to a Disney exhibition yesterday and learned about Mary Blair and Eyvind Earle and that’s why I googled ‘paint like Mary Blair’ and that’s how I found your channel. I Love it.

One thing I find difficult is to keep the acrylic gouache wet to continue to use it while I work on the different part of the painting.. I try to use it for when I know it will just go directly on and I won’t need to use it later. I haven’t purchased a sta-wet (spelling?) palette but I’m thinking it should help?!
