The Oakland A’s and major state officials have reached a loose agreement for a public financing package significantly less than the $500 million the team originally sought to assist in relocating the franchise to a $1.5 billion stadium in Las Vegas, sources confirmed to The Nevada Independent on Tuesday.
According to sources with knowledge of the discussions, the public financing package that will be presented to lawmakers will be lower than the initial threshold of $195 million in transferable tax credits the state set last week, and see a similar reduction from the initial request of $200 million in bonds backed by Clark County.
The agreement was reached after weeks of discussion involving representatives from the Major League Baseball team, the governor’s office, the treasurer, representatives of lawmakers and Clark County, among other groups, and marks a sizable step forward after weeks of concerns from lawmakers and the county over the scope of the team’s public financing request.

Let me say this I believe that this is going to fall through in some sort of way that it's going to be embarrassing for the A's to even look at theirselves in the mirror at the end of the day The reason why I say this is because they are too many questions about this attentive agreement with Nevada officials okay 1.5 billion and Fisher I believe he wants to commit 1 billion to that so here's the question and you should be asking yourself this where is the infrastructure money coming from on this damn thing why do they have to lower the bar so much to put a 9 acre stadium on the Vegas strip right through an old decrepit Tropicana hotel they can't get the tax revenue off hotels anymore The raiders basically did away with that situation with 8.8% so where are they going to get the money to keep the stadium going so it won't hemorrhage money like the raiders stadium is how is Clark county going to recoup from this you see that's the problem they're too many unanswered questions because everything is going to fall on Clark county it's not just going to fall on the state of Nevada it's going to fall on Clark county Clark county is the one got to flip the bill for this how much are they going to flip you see that's where they should be blocking at this right now I would wait to hear from Clark county before Nevada officials because you still got to go through the legislative branch now if Clark county if they spoke to Clark county then yeah they probably got something going right there but then right now 1.5 billion where they going to get it Where's Clark county going to get that kind of money they already said that they are already hemorrhaging money as it is with the raiders stadium Time will tell

@andychaves6858
@andychaves6858 Год назад
@@ronclark9724 Las Vegas and the state of Nevada certainly have been moving quicker, but 1) Oakland hasn't taken two decades. The Laney College site was the first Oakland proper site the A's selected and that was in 2017, but it fell apart before it even got to the city government level, so don't put that on the city of Oakland. The A's selected the Howard Terminal site in late 2018, so that whole process has taken about 4 1/2 years. And 2) As a taxpayer, what would you rather have: A government entity that does their homework (however excessive it may be) and takes a few years before allocating money for a $1.5 billion stadium?...Or a government entity that takes about 2 months to allocate money for a $1.5 billion stadium? I'd much prefer the public government that has regulations and hurdles to jump over before hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars are handed out.

This appears to be an "agreement" whereby Nevada officials show they are interested in bringing in baseball, but not enough for the A's to build their stadium. This is a worse deal than what the A's and Oakland had made progress on. Nevada is telling MLB they are interested in baseball coming to Nevada, but also a signal that they don't want Fisher and the A's.

This is the scenario I presented to the FAA in my complaint about this Son of Tropicana Stadium. You have a power up and take-off on Runway 1L or 1R. If you have a catastrophic power loss on take-off in your Cessna Citation or G4, where is the aircraft going to go? You're not generating enough lift to stay airborne, and your take-off pitch is too high to allow for control sans thrust. You have basically become a 160 mph, 2 ton kite that will go in whatever direction the prevailing control configuration and/or wind compels it to. If it goes to port, the first thing you'll run into is a stadium filled with highly concentrated victims. (Yes, there are people in those hotels as well, but at least they are spread out, and have a level of protection by the infrastructure that the stadium does not afford)...And about that wind. You have a roofed stadium with a very wide girth, with the roof at about the same level as the decision height on an IFR approach for 19L or 19R less than a 1,000 meters west of the touchdown zone for 19R. BTW, 19R is an ILS Cat 1 w/ DME. So given sand storm conditions and low visibility, with wind coming in from the southwest, you now have this big ass dome shredding and buffeting the wind on its way toward the TDZ of this ILS runway. Does anybody think, for a moment, that the FAA (which is usually very conservative in judgments - meaning in this case the worst case scenario possibilities) is going to allow this stadium to be built in that location? If they do, I personally would consider it negligence. Add to that the inevitability that either the stadium authority or the A's themselves will be writing the FAA in short order to "Please keep it down over there. We're trying to play a baseball game". The FAA really, really doesn't like having the utility of their facilities reduced for capricious reasons. There will be legions of lawyers ringing their hands in anticipation of litigation regarding this safety aspect, and also of the fact that with a 30,000 capacity stadium, there is no reasonable expectation of recovering the $1.5 billion while maintaining the competitive team required to pay it off within even a 30-year bond period. MLB is already negligent in letting this clown car parade continue. If there were an imperative to move the team, I'd be okay with that. But this team seems to be owned and managed like a kegger thrown by spoiled ass frat boys spending Daddy's money - "Daddy" in this case being the Clark County taxpayers. And for this disgrace Robber Manfraud needs to be held accountable. He needs to be fired, and an adult put in his place. To not have gotten out in front of this unworkable project in the beginning is as much on him as it is Fishwrap and his puppet...This is so obviously a pump-and-dump scheme that I could even see the FBI or the SEC getting involved down the line if the A's materially misrepresent the financials on a filing for a revenue bond issue... Last post on this. I love the team man, but I am so sick of the stupidity and corruption of this that it depresses me...Good luck A's fans...

Let's contrast the $395M ask by Fisher / A's to that of Vegas Golden Knights owner Billy Foley. Excerpt from a CNBC article back in December 2017 entitled "TAXPAYER MONEY SHOULD BE SPENT ON PUBLIC SERVICES - NOT STADIUMS, SAYS LAS VEGAS KNIGHTS OWNER BILL FOLEY" (sorry for the all caps, but I wanted to distinguish the headline of the article from the excerpt). "“We can better spend that money on firefighters, teachers, and policemen,” Bill Foley told CNBC’s “Power Lunch” in a recent interview...T-Mobile Arena,...now home to the Golden Knights, was funded entirely by MGM Resorts International and Anschutz Entertainment Group. Meanwhile, T-Mobile is paying millions a year for the naming rights, a fact about which Foley expressed some pride. "We had no tax payer funded dollars,” he told CNBC.

Even if the A’s get the stadium built, how is Fisher going to have any money to put into the team? They’re going to have to borrow money to help finance their part of it, the stadium is only go to seat 30,000, they’re going to the smallest television market in Major League Baseball. 23% of MLB’s revenue revenue comes from local TV money which is the highest of the four major sports. I never believed, even in Oakland that Fisher would put a lot of money into the team even if the A’s got a new stadium and I really believe in about five years, the Vegas people are going to be very upset withhim. I’ll be shocked if he starts putting significant money into payroll.

I visit Vegas often enough. Planes using r/w 1L/R would take off to the NNE and make the loudest noise but will not fly directly over the ballpark, unless they bank an immediate left turn. Landing on r/w 19R/L will bring them in on a SSW course and generate little noise. They'd be banking left to those runways and not fly over the ballpark. Most airtraffic out of there use (depending on winds) rw 26L/8R or 26R/8L ( east or west departures) which has then passing further south than the Luxor and Mandalay Bay, or out over the desert to the east

Can any Las Vegan explain why the A's would need a retractable roof during MLB season for either day or night games? Realistically, how many home games out of 81 per season would the roof be open and the fans / players want it open? Fixed roof would be less expensive. The Orlando ballpark rendering I've seen looks beautiful and has a clear roof to allow maximum sunlight / starlit-night light in, but I believe it's a fixed roof design. Hasn't any engineer / architect / A's front office person thought of this as an option, and if so, why are they not considering it while simultaneously asking for $395M in public financing / tax breaks? IMO, the A's should have the choice of a fixed roof and no more public / tax goodies or a retractable roof and no more public/ tax goodies. Sheesh......

I can see good attendance for 8 NFL home games in Vegas. But MLB? 80 home games in a city with a metro area of fewer than 3 million residents? I suppose the hope is that fans of visiting teams will want to plan a trip to Vegas and see their teams play.

Vegas is going to get a team with an ownership group that is not interested in investing in sed team. Why would you want that? The old saying "be careful what you wish for" applies here. No point having a team that continually develops very good players only to trade them off when it's time to pay them, and start the cycle all over again. Thereby never really allowing a winning team to develop to it's full potential.

My hunch is Fisher will sell the team within 5 years of the move to Vegas, He'll probably get twice the amount he'd get if he sold the A's in Oakland. Gap stock has dropped badly - he may need the money regardless whether he wants to sell.

This will probably happen but given the small stadium footprint and distance to the airport the retractable roof is likely out. It makes no sense anyway it's do damn hot during the season it's pointless. Better to do something similar to Allegiant with a semi-transparent permanent roof. Not sure Vegas is a good idea for MLB but the growth momentum there is essentially unbounded at the moment. It's a Gold Rush.

Say what you want about John Fisher -- he's wanting to invest $1B to build a stadium in Las Vegas - more than any MLB owner EVER. Yes, there are still questions that need to be answered, but Vegas is a place that makes good/fun/crazy things happen. Period. If we don't do that, we cease to be Las Vegas. Fisher wants to get the A's out of a city whose school district has gone bankrupt twice in the last 20 years and has a lot more problems that keeping sports teams around. Sad to see this - California is the state of my birth --- but 725,000 people left there in 2020. I hope California is able to fix its bigger problems, but I'm not optimistic.

hi ron - couple things to point out. A $1.5B stadium commitment in Vegas comes with $1.2B of incentives ($500M relocation fee waived, $180M free land, $175M from GLPI, $395 public money). It could also boost franchise value by at least another $500M. i know what you read, and where it came from. also: do you really know about the a's/oakland relationship & negotiations like some of us do? also: if we want to bring up schools -- nevada currently ranks 49th of 50 states. so, neither of us should be throwing stones here. i understand your excitement, respect your position, needs some perspective.

The only reason he's willing to make that investment, IMO, is he knows the value of the team skyrockets with the move, as it did for the Raiders. Would still love to see them require at least league average salary spent on team for the money though.

@@brodiebrazil Ya --- school district in NV has gotta get fixed, but like CA, we have a very active Teachers Union that takes over. Yes you are right - I don't know all the background of the negotiations in the East Bay with the A's - but I do know some of the laws/regulations that prohibit growth in CA are not here in NV and that makes a diff.
@michaelmarkowski204

@@vegassports The vast majority of school problems shouldn't be blamed on Teachers Unions. The province of Ontario (Canada) has strong teachers unions and a public education system in which teachers are paid very well with good benefits because we realize how valuable the education of our kids are. If teachers aren't paid well, many will leave the profession (or decide not to become a teacher in the first place) and get other jobs. I myself had wonderful elementary and high school teachers in our public school system and teachers never lacked for supplies / resources to provide students with a good education. It's a matter of priorities.

IMO CURRENTLY BOTH Oakland and Vegas doesn't deserve MLB team... With the exception Vegas might get ready so they can get an MLB team in the future while Oakland doesn't... tbh I hope Nevada reject themz then Fisher sells since I think he's too prideful to crawl back to Oakland, then I prefer them move to Sacramento, San Antonio, or SLC... As for expansion, depends if Vegas already got at least NBA first game, although I prefer them only getting MLB team ONLY AFTER them getting BOTH NBA and MLS team... If yes then Vegas and Nashville... If not, Montreal and Nashville...
