The NFL didn't need to force Christmas Day games, especially since Christmas Day is on a Wednesday this year.

As a Steelers fan, the bright side of this is that it gives me an excuse to get out of having to spend Christmas with my in- laws.

In the case of the NBA the teams that play in the finals play on Christmas Day (example 2015-2018 Cleveland and Golden State played on Christmas Day and it was on ABC and the team that won the NBA finals was the host) and that's always part of the NBA Christmas Day schedule

The Chiefs may be the first team to play on 6 different days of the week in one season. They open on Thursday, are apparently playing the Black Friday game. Because they're playing this Christmas Wednesday game, they're playing the previous Saturday. Sundays are obvious, and you'd think they'll be on Monday Night at least once.

You know in 2016 the Steelers played on Thanksgiving and Christmas. And New Year's Day since everyone played on NYD that year. Playing on Christmas isn't the issue. It's Playing on Wednesday and giving those teams an extra 10-11 days to get ready for week 18. Christmas on Thu-Mon was fine but now Wednesday? Then in 2029 are they playing on Tues? And 3 times the Cowboys also played on Christmas in addition to their usual Thanksgiving games. I'll bet these teams are fine with it cos they love the exposure

I'm actually surprised they didn't have the Bengals as the Chiefs' opponent for Christmas over the Steelers. Assuming the other two teams remain the same for Christmas and the previous Saturday, they only needed the fourth team to be the Ravens' opponent the previous Saturday. The Chiefs do play the entire AFC North this season, and the Bengals are a more likely playoff contender than the Steelers given the latter's brutal 2024 schedule and skin-of-their-teeth playoff berth last year, assuming Joe Burrow stays healthy. Not to mention the already existing Bengals/Chiefs rivalry. For that matter, since they already have three of the reigning AFC division winners in those four games, why didn't they have the fourth? They all play each other this season, naturally, and the Bills are another likely playoff contender, after all.

So for the NBA it's usually playoff teams and the Lakers (and LeBron no matter who he's playing for)

I would not be surprised if Weeks 15-17 have to be re-done because I suspect if the NFL tries to have games opposite the College Football Playoff in Week 16, they will be taken to court by the College Football Playoff Committee and elected officials, especially from states where college football, NOT the NFL is king. I suspect what winds up happening is the NFL is forced to have the Christmas Day game end Week 16 with teams playing Christmas Day playing their Week 17 games Monday 12/30.
