Well said. This current neo classical realism is a total bore. An activated flat plane (Cubism as a hyperbolic form of that) is where it’s at.

Exactly, each mark you make has the potential to activate the surface into a field of space, something that the Classical Realists fail to realise.

but in fact, Leonardo da vinci and other old masters rarely draw in this way of cube, sphere or cylinder. Many of them draw with their imaginery, they can draw as they could touch the figure they draw, and they copy the statue as much as they can so that they can absorb the beautiful shape, the way of drawing with cylinder, sphere or cube is just only see in the sketch when they analyse which are inside the body or structure, not the way they approach to all their process of drawing

Well yes, Leonardo and the master alike drew from their immense imagination, but Leonardo especially did draw in this way, maybe not like the highly simplified form of Cambiaso, but if you look at any of his portraits, you will see a highly refined physical form that was constructed of geometric shapes. Da Vinci was incredibly sophisticated enough that he could formulate the masses together in his mind.

@@oscareconome3033 yeah, but what i want to say is that they didn't use the geometric as the tool to solve the problem when they want to draw figure portrait or something else, they use it because they think that is the perfect shape, their ideal shape they see and copy after the greek statue model, which is why when we look at some of their drawing, we intuitvely see the form like something we was known and familiar, the genius of old masters are their creative shape, not their techniques of simplifying the complex shape to the formula one.

No, it is mean that the drawing process is completely different. when we draw like the way in your video telling, the first thing you do is using geometric form to have a base and then apply the muscle, bony landmark, the component of the face,...but old master (i mean before rembrandt, because rembrandt drawing skill is took a step further to become the minimalism) they can figure out line cover of shape , after they draw the base line, they will adjust the shape form this base to fix with the idea shape in their mind. The evidence is from their live drawing, we couldnt find any sign of that they using the geometric shape base and fill in with the detail, those of drawing using this technique is always find on the study of them, when they experiment to creat the right shape.

This video is just about how cubism can be linked to volume expressing in "tradition of drawing". Paul had made many videos (now deleted) explaining more. The perfect form in classical statues is not perfect because of classicism but 'great tradition of drawing' in term of plastic art. And 'geometric' has different meanings in different periods of time.

Paul-talk is no authority on the subject, he distorts art history to promote his work as i have proven in my videos. He is no different to the classical realist as his ideas are a post modern recreation of tradition. He is also a mediocre painter.
