One of the most widely available and popular bonsai species out there, the Chinese Elm has been this way for quite some time. With its smaller, beautiful leaves, gorgeous fall colors and ability to grow somewhat fast is why this tree is so popular. This tree has been growing this way for quite sometime and to get him the way I want will take a couple more videos which I will be posting! If you have a Chinese elm or plan on getting one in the future make sure you watch this and the other videos I will be posting. Plant prudently!

Great video. I have a Chinese Elm that I have a problem with. It has no buds or leaves and looks dead. I did the scratch test and it is green underneath. The top area of the tree is a reddish color. I have it out on my patio. I have it sitting where the intense sun does not get it and it still gets the light. The soil is OK and drains good. It is not waterlogged. I can not figure it out. I would welcome any help or suggestions with it. Why is my tree like that? I live in Frankfort, KY. It is summer, so it should be having buds, leaves, etc-yet there are none. Not even a tiny bud. I have pics but no place to put on here.

Please help I'm desperate. I left a comment on another video of yours about a Yucca plant but it wasn't really about the yacht plant it was about my Orange trees that I'm trying to save. And time is of the essence they're dying and I've been trying to keep them alive for 3 years I started them as seeds for my Uncle's oranges from his Orange tree. I lost several of them but I was able to manage to keep 4 of them alive up until recently. Not thriving by any means but alive and now I'm afraid they're dying their leaves are falling off and they're turning colors and I saw fly things around them tiny ones and then when I watered them yesterday I saw ugly little gross white wiggly things in their soil and I'm just lost at what to do. I've just doused them with neem oil I've poured a nemoiled solution that was diluted with water into the soil and soak the soil with that to try and help but it's not helping. So then I bought some houseplant and garden Insect killer by Garden safe And I lightly sprayed them with that and also sprayed the soil because that's where I saw the ugly little white wiggly things. It I just don't want them to die.

Can you leave it outside year round?
@TheGreenAlchemist

You sure can! Well at least you can if you live in zones 5-9. Make sure you mulch too for added protection from the harsh rays of the sun. That will dry your tree out way quicker without mulch. Also it protects the roots from the cold too in the rest of the year.

I'll probably get some at least dirty looks but I'd get a good bb gun or a good sling shoot for those damn cats. Plants and cats just don't mix!!!!;

LOL, I resorted to those tree protective selves that will encase the entire trunk, at least up to where they can't reach or even climb with those over the trunk. For smaller plants I'll plant lavender, or rosemary around, I've had some moderate success with those. I also will lay some aluminum foil down in my raised beds and (so both) then place some crumpled up balled aluminum foil around there too. Cats hate the look, feel and sound of tin foil. Plus you can also get the added benefit of bouncing more light back up into your garden with the sheets. I usually anchor it down with yard pins (the kind you use to pin down weed barrier sheets) or some rocks.
