Hey! Young reptile keeper here! ( younger then 18) I’ve done my research and before anybody says, “ Oh, it probably only takes a day to do research. “ it almost took me a whole month to finish researching about my reptile before getting it. I also worked hard to get the money for him and it takes hard work! I have a Crested Gecko, ( age? ) His name is Vox and I give him varieties of diff foods and also his little protein powder syrup thing? Also the only time that I have someone else do something for my pet is only when I’m at school I have my mom mist him every so often which I’m thankful of! I feed him every day if he feels like it. And he gets lots of love! Anyways thanks for reading!
Another below 18 keeper here! I did the same thing! I have four reptiles (a crested gecko, bearded dragon, royal Python and leopard gecko) and god the amount of research time I have done would outweigh any studying I did ever. Reptiles don’t take just a day of researching, as you said. You need to look at multiple sources, see which outweighs it and the dates of the videos ( below 3 years old) and basically watch the persons whole channel to try and find out whatever you can about this animal and what they need. People are stupid smtimes 😭😭
Only give one/buy one if you know how to take care of it. As a reptile keeper with a tortoise, 2 lizards, and a gecko they are high maintenance. So do your research before getting one.
Agreed! I have four (2 geckos, a ball Python and a beardie) and they’re sometimes a little hard to keep up with. IMO the youngest you can get your kid a reptile is 14. They’re old enough to walk to school on their own, old enough to go out on their own and have chores. And so with some guidance and an obvious display of knowledge on the creature they want, they can get it. A 8 yr old will say they REALLY REALLY WANT IT but they know nothing abt it??? And the parents r like “okay timmy have the bearded dragon you can take care of it!!” 🙄🙄
@@Friendlyneighbourhoodjuggalo Yeah that's why if parents want to get their kids a reptile they should sit down and do research and assist the child with caring for it.
@@Friendlyneighbourhoodjuggalo in my opinion I'd say the age for a reptile [with parent assistance] would be 9 because that seems like an age where a kid would know better
My son really wanted a WTF and so I researched it and as a mom I would never get my son anything I wouldn't be 💯 prepared to take full responsibility for... But I became as obsessed as him. So it's a win win. ❤
My bf had to take his snake to the vet. I think she had a Respiratory disease? It’s been awhile i cant quite remember. But he had to give her shots underneath her scales near her face. Not fun. I believe he had her for 9 years now?
If a thing is classified as living, don't give it as a gift. This includes plants. Anything that can be dependent on you to survive should not be something Aunt Linda gets you because she forgot your birthday and heard you say that thing was neat.
I think plants are fine, bc they can't feel pain or anything. Ik some people don't like plants but I personally love when ppl buy me plants bc they can get pricey
