Some things I think they didn't pay attention to: (1) rise all four wheels at once (two axles), else one won't let the other in. (2) the derailer piece should be _higher_ than the rail itself (see in the end of the recording, the one farther ahead), or else the wheel guide won't let the wheel go around the rail. (3) raise the whole axle at once; not one side at a time. What I see wrong in this derailer design is that it is just a "quick bump", it should have a length because it would allow both sides of the axle at the top position at one, allowing then the wheel to properly "squid" into place. Else one side ensures the other won't go in as can be seen in several of the attempts. here. I'm no pro, just some considerations.

There are a lot better rerailers than the one they were using. I saw one used on a boxcar derailed on a siding when I was a kid. They took three hours to get the two rerailers in place, and the car rerailed in one attempt. Rerailers I get. The logic of using derailers escapes me.

@@johnswoodgadgets9819 you should take some Typonese lessons :P (at me using "derailers" instead of "re-railers")

@@heavenlyavenger Maybe, but I was just wondering why there is such a thing as a derailer. (de-railer? Nah... derailer. I'll dance with the one that brung me... But I digress) They actually have them, you know. Derailers, that is. Maybe there are some train people out there who know why. I understand why there are rerailing devices, good, bad, or mediocre. But why in the world would anyone want to derail a train car? Under normal circumstances that would call for a tool to do that specifically, I mean. Thoughts, anyone?

@@johnswoodgadgets9819 as a security measure in case a "stray car" gets in the tracks, usually close to junctions. It would derail and stop the car before it gets to the track supposedly open to other traffic

@@heavenlyavenger Ah! I see! Alrighty, then. Throw it off the road before it collides with other cars. If only we could do that somehow with automobiles!

Are they using the re-railers wrong? Ive never seen a video with so many attempts, or is it a chance thing with wedges?
@deltavee2

Diesel sound was lovely. That wedge design they were using needs to re-thought. It's a crap piece of engineering.

It looks very unprofessional. Every fail and wheal hit the ground damaging the rails and wheal itself. Why not use hydraulic lift specially design for trains? (it works in tunels too). Like on this movie from Poland: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NZbHRx7xMZ8.html - nothing was damaged here. And one try and one success.
