As a mixed kid with black alternative mom, This was kinda our version of that genre back then. Very cool and criminally underrated album that’s for thinkers and not followers.
Also a mixed kid here and this felt like a fusion of all the things I loved. She also happens to be physically gorgeous as a cherry on top of her beautiful voice and lyrics. She is someone I aspire to be more and more like when it comes to her artistry.
People have let music producers convince them that auto tuned crap is "real" music. Those in the know know artists like Res, India Arie, and Nikka Costa are the real deal.
Artists need a good marketing team...whether they're good or not. Me, my sis n brother listened to her music, yet even then I knew she'd never be as popular as whack pop stars bc she wasn't on the radio. Radio cant make money off of artists that think.
Beautiful album and Artist who did extremely well when this came out 10 yrs ago. Unfortunately the neo soul era wasn't as popular then as it is today. Res was kind of rock and r&b and the people didn't support her righteously. I did and so did my peers, but not the radio. Support Real artist and Music. Turn off your radio
Amen to that Micah. I remember going to a free show in 2001 in Atlanta and seeing her and being like, "wow"!. Then I found Santigold and was like, "they sound alike" . Well come to find out, she and Santi are good friends and had written on Res' album. Santi is another one that the industry are not sure what to do with. Hence her independence. I have heard Santigold in upscale dept store while shopping.. i.e. Bloomingdale's and Lord and Taylor's and have thought, "...the people don't know what they are being blessed with right now". Because to them it is equivalent to elevator music. Res and Santigold reminded me of Esthero. I loved her old original stuff.. I say remind me, because Esthero came around a little before them. Peace.
+Carley Lester Completely agree. Esthero! Wasn't she awesome?! Goapele came a little later and was good too. Angie Stone, Anthony Hamilton, that whole neo-soul era didn't get a lot of love commercially but it left a mark.
+onegirlrev right on. super late reply but u named SEVERAL of my favorite artists from that time frame... in high school people were asking what I'm listening to while I was asking y aren't u........ good music.
Brittany Rawls it’s one of those albums that’s 20 years old and still on my rotation. I need to listen to every track, in order, from start to finish. No garbage tracks intermixed with one intended pop release.
naomioni I first heard Res when I worked at the west philly cable company 17 years ago. We produced a show highlighting local and influential artists-wish I still had access to those tapes.
one of the best written and vocalized songs of all times.. yet so many have never heard of this great performing artist.. Res.. classic supreme and orginal..
MY FAVORITE SONG OFF THIS ALBUM! It comes on so beautifully! I randomly play this all the time on roadtrips. It's so good to drive to. RIIIIIDDDE THIS WAVE OF MINE!
I had the wonderful opportunity to see Res perform in concert... An amazing performance! I don't think technology has advanced enough to properly record her offering. If you ever have the opportunity please see her perform live! Golden!
oh.. she got some new ish out there.. i think she is performing more.. she did an awesome Fleetwood Mac cover... i'm sure its floating around on youtube somewhere..
I feel so nice just when you're here The reason why is not so clear I knew the first time when you told me I'd fall in love just as you'd hold me And now I want to stay at your side tonight I want to watch you as the sun lights up your eyes I want to know when you wake first thing you see is me You're all the things I prayed that I'd meet Ride, ride this wave of mine There're brighter things out on the other side Ride, ride this wave of mine I know that things are going to be alright Moments they come and then they go You'll feel so high and then before you know I could of sworn our future was set in stone But I guess some things it's just as well for God to know So now I concentrate on turning wrong to right I'm going to let go things I held inside so tight I'm going to live and let forgive things said in spite Clear out the smoke and usher in the light Ride, ride this wave of mine There're brighter things out on the other side Ride, ride this wave of mine I know that things are going to be alright
This WHOLE Album is Perfection. It never ages. Perhaps I can talk to her about a spot in the" Great Awakening tour "... because her lyrics and timeless message.
What a love song.....It was amazing and sweet before but now it's such a breath of fresh air. We had no idea how watered down and clueless music would become, making artist and her sound timeless. It's just what we need. Goes to say do what ever you're suppose to do when the time comes because the future may need your gift.
She faced being undercut by a music producer when she didn't return interest toward his sexual attraction to her. I think we should continue to support her!

I know dis comment hecka old, but I did some research. Santigold did indeed produce AND co-compose Res's debut album. Here's a link to the article if anyone's interested: www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/music/kot/ct-ott-0415-santigold-20160411-column.html
