FAQs-
Q: "Where is this?"
A: Our fire house is located in the town of Willow Street, just south of Lancaster City, Lancaster County Pennsylvania.
Q: "What is the spinning thing?"
A: That is called the "Roto-Ray," it is a spinning light designed to catch drivers attention.
Q: "Why is the call so far away?" or "Why does it take so long to get there?"
A: Many of our responses, or at least many of the ones that are uploaded are responding to assist other departments. Usually another firehouse can be seen or is passed by who is already on the call. We can reach the far end of our first due in West Lampeter Twp within 5 minutes, and in Providence Twp about 7.
Q: "What camera are you using?"
A: For dash cams I use a GoPro Hero 7, helmet cam videos I use a FireCam 1080

Responded to a school bus crash here in Idaho a month ago, that scene was pure hell, we had 7 priority-1 traumas, 2 flown by helicopter. All are out of the hospital alive now. Hope you guys are doing okay.

@@lawoftheland5923 fuck, that sucks. ours was lucky placement for it to happen, only 30 miles from the only children’s hospital for 500 miles, and we have an abnormally high amount of level 2 hospitals in our county so we just transported all due to the MOI.

Any accident with kids involved makes you want to drive a little bit faster! I'm so glad this turned out to be just a fender bender it sounds like. Growing up in Montgomery county pa I'm familiar with this area. Still some wide open country roads in this area. Probably been 30 years since I've been here and still looks about the same! Keep safe firefighters and keep up the great work that you Do!❤

Long before pagers, or everyone being able to have a portable radio to monitor the radio for calls.they would use the Civil Defense Sirens to alert the firefighters to respond to their stations for incidents. Many of the sirens had different tones for air raid, tornado (weather) and fires. Many areas still use them.
@BattleshipOrion
@BattleshipOrion Год назад
My town has a fire siren. A Model 5, but with radio's, and the town being nearly 10k people, no-longer needed. Even with the other sirens, located around town (an active siren is not even a mile away, and was once a fire siren a 1003T from Oregon) for tornadoes, and another siren for a local plant that handles hazardous materials brought in via rail & transloaded into truck, or used in a product. If your interested, look up, the Wapakoneta, Ohio Thunderbolt 1003t.

Lots of fire departments have a tornado siren to alert (usually) volunteers to a call. They're usually a hi lo signal so I'm not sure why that's doing a wail.

It's firehouse sirens, i believe they go off to warn that the firetrucks are making their leave onto a call. Also historically tornado sirens were meant for fire incidents which is pretty cool

Willow Street Fire Co. uses a Federal Signal STH-10 mounted to a telephone pole in their back yard when an emergency call comes in. Small town/rural fire departments regularly have these in order to summon firefighters to the station, albeit it's a redundancy since the invention of the pager system in the 1970s. Sirens were first and foremost put to use at fire stations at the end of the 1800s. They didn't first see tornado usage until the 1950s.

Do you have to have a siren on at all times?
@shawnmorse5770
@shawnmorse5770 Год назад
Not sure about the procedures where they are, since it’s a different state, but most agencies here in NY, including my old department, would run siren for any priority call (MVA/TC/MVC, any type of fire, or any incident where there may be the potential for serious injuries or anything life threatening. I personally ran a call once for a vehicle accident in a gas station parking lot and ran Code 3 the entire way because we got a report for children in one of the vehicles, it only ended up a fender bender with barely any damage but we didn’t know that until we arrived in scene so we treated it as a normal Code 3 response for an MVA. Most places run lights and sirens for most calls unless it’s something that was requested as a silent run or if its something minor and non-life-threatening
@CymruEmergencyResponder
@CymruEmergencyResponder Год назад
@@shawnmorse5770 I mean does the siren have to be on at all times if lights are on? In so many videos from the US I see them using sirens when there is nobody around…so there is nobody there to warn.
@corycollier

@@CymruEmergencyResponder GENERALLY from what I've seen, UNLESS it's the dead of night in a city with no traffic, they'll run the siren.

@@chad-yc4px You’re right that most career agencies have policies in place regarding use of sirens while responding to a call, and, why you raggin on vollies? You must fail to realize that VOLUNTEER departments make up 70% of the ENTIRE fire service within the United States, right? Plus, I grew up around volunteer departments and was in one myself, I’ve seen vollies with more balls than some career guys
@frb5237
@frb5237 Год назад
@@chad-yc4px I worked for a well respected and well run career department that would use sirens on any non-service call. The place I volunteered at on the other hand didn't use sirens on half their calls. Yes, the professionals used their sirens more than the cosplayers. A 911 call should be treated as an emergency until someone can confirm otherwise. It's a liability. It's either an emergency or it's not. Responding in some limbo halfway state has caused accidents. In this video specifically, there's plenty of blind crests, corners, and intersections that the siren should clearly be on for. That's without even considering that the call they're responding to is a school bus crash. I assure you I get the frustration with whacker vollies, but your statements are just incorrect.
