Which side is the cute one, per say. I find the actual monster look both cool and adorable myself. For me, easily the better of the designs from the two.
Imagine getting overrun by bandits only to be saved by a giant spider, then healed by said spider. Then the family comes out to see just what the hell is going on, only for the monster to point at the baby, start rolling on the ground making pained growls....and then it just runs away.
You know how it is, one time you are saving a helpless baby, and another you end up with a super powerful Vampire leading a Coup d'état .... They grow up so fast
The funniest thing regarding Kumoko's appearance is that her perception of herself being cutesy is entirely due to the Elroe Labrynth's lack of reflective surfaces.
@@MegaRyuki i mean she doen't know exactly how her current form looks like nut she for sue knows its not cute. She has seen spiders of her previus forms so she has an idea
I love this part because you can really see that she's changed, even if she disguises it with sarcasm. She's monstrous, almost sadistic, yet still ultimately does the kinda-right thing.
I mean, she did go through hell her entire life, if any of us was in that situation we'd probably end up similar to her. She lost her moral and faith years ago. *spoilers* She wasn't even a human to begin with.
the explanation is understandable though and it is not related on being a monster, read if you want it's not a big spoiler, more like an aspect not mentioned till later The Seven Sins abilities (gluttony, wrath, envy...) even though they are extremely good, and very cheap to buy, they come with mental poisoning, the higher the skill, the worse. Kumoko has PRIDE which is the worse, turning little by little the user into a person who sees everyone as EXP grinders, (you can see it too when she kills the ones wo "destroyed her house")
@@polopuik9198 Skills cost different amounts for different people. E.g. for Katia the appraisal skill when she was a baby was 1000 points, but for shun as a teen it was a 100 points. For some reason, for shun and Kumoko most skills are super cheap. Likely for other people the deadly sins should be super expensive ( and also, most people get the deadly skills naturally instead of buying them )
@@Dei_Mi_En the buy in goes up depending on your afinity for said skill. In the light novel for example she avoids fire magic because it's her racial weakness and even after she gets it via copying that imperial mage she never really levels it up due incompatibility. A greedy person for example could buy the greed skill cheaper
The brilliance of this show is that everything around Kumoko is pretty much a bog-standard anime, but her presence elevates it to something absolutely endearing.
wait until you find out about other characters one pov makes the anime a very tragic story while the other makes it a very political one and one changes the whole genre of the anime just by existing
I honestly wish they used this really funny part where the slide has a tantrum and then it cuts to the humans POV and we just see the spider model rolling around
@@nicomartinez9951 Yes, she is a reincarnation. It was funny because I just couldn't tell if the baby vampire could understand her at time. So the look on her face was priceless.
What Kumoko looks like to us vs what Kumoko looks like to others. Damn, she really looks scary through the eyes of others, compared to her Araba looks harmless! I just wish she would be seen with the face we see and be able to talk to humans.
I recently learned a term for this: Diagetic. Something that is diagetic is something that is happening in the story. In a horror film when the music is being all spooky, if you could reach inside the screen and get into the movie, it would be silent. The music is not diagetic. In this anime, we see a non-diagetic cute version when we are shown the story from the mcs perspective. In actuallity, she looks like some crazy hell beast to the people actually in the world looking at her.
Gotta say, the view the humans had after this scene was funny as hell. A scary looking spider the size of a dog rolling around while screeching. The fact they just stood there and watched it with almost blank faces definitely made it funnier for me.
When you finally leave the starting area towards the Main Mission, however, on the way you find a secondary mission and calculate if the prizes are worth your time, but then you empathize with one of the NPC'S and do the mission anyway
someoday i would love to see a compilation of all the human perspective back to back, just this hell spider acting weirdly and being absurdly overpowered while having fits every 5 minutes
@@canadiangopnik7007 yeah we've seen Sophia both past and present in this episode (and I think her butler) And she also hinted at the Elves not being as good as we think they are
She's a giant spider monster, she herself even acknowledges this. I think I remember reading somewhere. Oh wait [SPOILERS... probably] I think I remember reading somewhere that she eventually ends up devouring all humanity of course I could be wrong.
someone pointed out somewhere that it appears kumoko is making out with one of the dead bodies. so shes basically sexually abusing the corpses then eating them after. Shes a serial killer.
This, people. This is why we love Kumoko. From deadly and scary to cute and goofy in the blink of an eye. And at the end her "Ok, that's a wrap", just... just... awww... Seriously, though. I'm in serious danger of wanting to get a pet tarantula and name her Kumoko.
Step 1: obtain albino spider as a pet Step 2: name the spider Kumoko Step 3: hope that Kumoko 2.0 doesn't level up into a calamitous creature of destruction.
@@joshuakim5240 Sadly, actual arachnids don't come in albino. :( You could probably find a pale one though, since captive bred tarantulas have a surprising amount of variety
Except that happened after 15 years from leaving the cave and that spider was an old evolution of hers what fight do you mean if you don't mean this one ?
Oh my god... I just noticed an animation error around 1:35. When the bandit boss is laughing, you can still see the freeze frame of the silk coming through the doorway
Not really a time gap. They are born at the same time. Only the humans take years to develop. Whereas Kumo gets to work on her skills from day one. By the time everyone is old enough to go to school, Kumo has gotten out of the dungeon and then some. To be honest there's still a reveal left for Kumo. But you'll see it eventually.
@@MrSailing101 I think he just meant she used the attack itself, not that she was still injured (...wait, did I misunderstood a joke or did you misread his comment, I can't tell actually?)
Well it’s different because the series of events are in different order, but she first used them in the fight against the humans (which was supposed to be after Araba) because she’d seen him use it so much that the magic construction was burned into her memory
@@canadiangopnik7007 the human fight was not supposed to happen after araba fight, the anime did not change it Althought i think it was different in the web novel (but i have read them years ago so i may missremember something)
How she sees herself vs how EVERYONE sees her is telling. And that’s what I love about this - she doesn’t see herself as a Nightmare, just a spider, so what. And is probably how all of us would imagine ourselves before a certain Hero tries to show us the error of our ways
Imagine you're about to be murdered by bandits, then a terrifying spider monster kills them all and you have no idea why it's not killing you too because it can't do human speech to tell you it was rescuing the baby.
The rest of the episode (Human Side) was an impressive amount of low budget animation tricks. Like case study worthy. I need to go back and learn these tricks.
@@PhoeniX-jc2vq spoilers but the web novel undoubtedly does Shiraori’s awakening better, she doesn’t randomly lose her powers, she becomes a god and she’s... well, a god! Because she just recreates the skills with her power, think of the skills in the system as a button that performs a function, she doesn’t have those buttons, but can still perform the functions manually, she’s been using her skills for nearly a year now, I think she’d remember how they feel to use
This is anime. Of course it won't be that easy but I hope so too. Or at least be able to talk to them so they'll stop thinking of her as just a mindless beast
I'm really hoping for Isekai Quartet Season 3, cause I'd love for Komuko to cameo in some episodes as well as characters from Jobeless Reincarnation since both shows are Kadowaka.
After the sort of things she's eaten in order to live the mental barriers against eating humans have probably completely broken down. She literally only survived because she managed to force herself past mental barriers against eating things. It's Sad but it's actually amazing she hasn't become worse.
On the one hand, this cutesy arachnid protagonist might help some people get over their arachnophobia. But on the other hand, this story is also giving us a million more reasons to be scared of spiders.
I want and need more of this show as soon as possible 😱😭👀 I love how they showed what she looks like from everyone else’s perspective just as she was killing them. Then swapped back.
You know, I have been holding off this series from an acute case of arachnophobia, but seeing these clips makes me wonder this spider's personality might be enough to justify.
