Rescue Variegated Scarlet Jaboticaba with Approach Double Rootstock Grafting

This escarlate jabuticaba seedling has been struggling in the large pot it was in. So I decided to remove the seedling and put it in a smaller pot with fresh potting soil and a new set of roots. The pot it was in was full of large worms eating the roots and was causing the seedling to die slowly.
I attempt to approach graft another set of roots onto this rare seedling in hopes of saving it.

I would have tried to save a variegated one too. Looks like a good job to me. Looking forward to the update.

Good work. I've done the same for a Navel seedling that hated being on its own roots and a few rare citrus that were struggling.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like a delicate procedure. Wonder if it's possible to use the same technique to accelerate a slow growing variety to an earlier maturity.

Unfortunately this did not survive. Slowly the variegated seedling deteriorated. I did discover the donor rootstock I grafted onto the variegated had died and was not helping the variegated at all. It must have suffered from shock from having the whole canopy removed while also being up potted. So if I just removed some of the canopy and left it approach grafted for half of the healing time then it would probably have had a better chance.
