Join me as we walk through a step-by-step process using Xylene to revive your stamped concrete and bring back its vibrant appearance. Let's get started on this concrete rescue mission! 🚧🛠️
🔍 Identifying the Issue:
We've all seen it - that frustrating white haze on stamped concrete sealer. Before diving into the repair process, I'll briefly explain why this happens and why Xylene is our hero in this situation.
🛑 Step 1: Test with Caution:
Safety first! Learn how to test a small area (1"x3") to ensure that Xylene is the right solution for your stamped concrete. This crucial step ensures compatibility and prevents any unexpected reactions.
💦 Step 2: Power Wash and Prep:
I'll guide you through the importance of a thorough pressure wash. Clean the entire patio, including control joints, to create a clean canvas for the repair. Allow the concrete to dry completely before moving on to the next step.
👷‍♂️ Step 3: Safety First, Always:
Put on your respirator and safety gear - we're about to handle Xylene. Safety is paramount during this process, and I'll walk you through the precautions to ensure a secure DIY experience.
🌬️ Step 4: Xylene Application:
Fill your pump sprayer with Xylene, pump it 20 times, and get ready to revive your stamped concrete. I'll guide you on how to start spraying from the perimeter, working your way out from the farthest point for even coverage.
⏰ Step 5: Patience is Key:
Allow the Xylene to work its magic for 30 minutes to an hour. I'll explain why patience during this drying period is crucial for achieving the best results.

I used a solvent based acrylic high gloss sealer to reseal my stamped concrete porch floor. In front of my fireplace, I didn't get the sealer rolled out and found a 6 - 12" band of pure haze the next morning. I wiped xylene on with a cloth and the haze disappeared. Do not wipe the rag across the treated area more than once! It turned out perfect. Thank you for the video.

Great video. I put down an acrylic solvent sealer 2 years ago, on a concrete paver patio. It’s a non wet look acrylic and just makes the pavers look grey, it’s also milky white in some places. Looking to remove the acrylic and leave for a year before putting down a wet look sealer to bring out the color of the pavers. If I use Xylene as you’ve shown, would I pressure wash then to remove the acrylic, maybe agitate with a brush to loosen? Have pets so not super excited about xylene but not sure I have a choice. Thanks for your help!

Hey thanks for the response. Xylene works for a quick fix. I have done this experiment a few years ago. The Xylene drys under 2 mins. I tried a pressure washer with spray Xylene but as soon as the water got on the sealer where I was going to Xylene it wouldn't penetrate. The water acts as a neutralizer. Try to get your hands on a pail of "strip this" imo technologies.

We bought some other sealer as we ran out and that portion looked great, so my husband bought some more of 2nd sealer and thought it would take the white hazy look out, but it didnt go away. Cool video. In addition to wearing the respirator I would recommend wearing your pants over top of your boots instead of tucking them in. That way you will prevent any chemical splashes or debris from getting down into your boots and contaminating your socks and feet. Those pants would go over the boots tight and give you a good seal to stop stuff going down your boots. In your next video can you try wearing them that way and let me know what you think?

I'll look for it in your next video.

Hello I recently resealed my stamped concrete. However, the part of the patio which is exposed to sun and rain ( not covered by the roof) , still has spots that seem like there is no sealer or less sealer than the covered patio (white areas that are not as dark as the rest). Does this mean I didn't apply enough or I applied more than I should? I was told to apply 2 coats both thin, (1 gallon per 400 square feet for the first coat and 1 gallon per 300 square feet for the second coat. The first coat I applied it with the sprayer having my wife using a roller behind me, and the second coat I applied only with the sprayer. It's been 1 month now and it shows some fade areas on the exposed to the sun/rain area of the patio. I mean, is it normal to fade? I would expect to last longer ( I used the expensive sealer Armor AR350). QUESTION: After 1 month, will it be stupid to wash this faded spots/parts of the patio and reseal them again using a roller? Or instead of sealer I will need to pray with the Xylene as you do? I am so confused...

Lacquer base and while 90% came out as desired one section of the yard the whole left side from back fence to house about 30 feet long 1 ft wide just started to cloud and haze. I could tell working on this property for a few days, I was pressure washing then sanding and finish sealing. Anyway I could see the problem area took much longer to dry. I waited and even used some heat guns but still it’s no good. Would you suggest I follow your video and real seal that area or do I have to start back at square one and strip it all? The white haze will show up a within a few hours or 24hours. If the white haze shows later it maybe a bigger concern. I wouldn't use xylene to strip the sealer, "strips this" is the best product for stripping sealer. I'll be posting a video on this in the coming weeks. Thanks for the question

"Strips this" or "strip it" product is discontinued. I'm gonna try spraying on the Xylene on my cloudy patio tomorrow. I'm gonna let it sit for a 24 hours and see if it takes away the milky look. I did use Xylene to strip a 3x3 foot section of my patio and then I pressure washed it off. It does work to strip off sealer. I prefer not to strip the whole patio if I don't have to. Guess I'll find out. I also researched a ton online and I couldn't find anything else besides Xylene that strips solvent-based acrylic sealers.

I'm in the same boat. There is a video I referenced from Windy City Steamers on here, but I just purchased Xylene from Menards and pushed it around with a brush in sections. Then use concrete surface cleaner to clean it off. Just gotta make sure the pieces of sealer coming off get off the patio before it dries otherwise it starts harderening back on the patio in gritty little pieces (would have been nice to have known that before I started). I think the other thing is a good gas powered pressure washer. I rented my equipment and it was a max of 2700 psi. The minimum psi for the surface cleaner is 2,000.. but at 2700 psi, I think a higher psi would have been even better. I used about 3 gallons of Xylene on my 500 sqft patio. It got about 85% of the sealer off, which I am happy with. I might tidy it up by by rolling some more Xylene and spot treat some areas before sealing.. This time I purchased a quality more expensive sealer (AR350 by foundation Armor). I was using big box store sealers and it always turned milky, and flaked within the year.. hope this helps. Stripping the sealer has been a lot of work!

Jeff _ Yeah, I used a gas pressure washer with 3300psi. The Xylene just made it clump up & I got sealer all in my decorative rocks around my patio when the water, xylene, & sealer was washing off the patio. I’ve just made a mess & I’m looking for a good product to strip all the sealer off & start fresh. I now know that Xylene is good if I want to freshen up my sealer after a few years to bring it back to life, but it sucks to actually strip the sealer off...it just makes a huge mess.
