I’m this video, I give an update on the Bedford MF-R Military style 4x4 Offroad vintage fire truck I rescued from the junkyard. The radiator has been rebuilt and I go through the motions to see if I can re-install the cooling system. Leave a comment with your thoughts! Thanks for watching, Bruce. #truck #mechanic #bedford #tractor #armytruck

Bruce I am not sure how old you are but I am getting closer to 50. When I was young I did ton of work on cars, but now I find it is getting harder and harder due to age... seeing all young folks working on cars, I was bit worried that I am not going to be able to work on cars once I get to may be 60: Boy, you gave me confidence.. Thanks Bruce for posting this video. It not just show excellent work, it also gave me a motivation. When I did the suspension on hilux surf, corolla and LC 100, I applied anti seize on all bolts and nuts. In fact I do on every bot I remove. Thanks Sir!

Hi Janpur, I’m on the doorstep of 70 and i decided to do some of these videos to try to share a bit of knowledge with others before I get too “old”. I sometimes have to get help with the heavy lifting. I’m glad it gave you some motivation and thanks very much for watching, best wishes, Bruce

Really enjoy your videos, here in Hong Kong not many if any opportunities to do work on trucks let alone older ones. By the way love your dog Jack's!! Your lucky to have such a loyal companion

Thanks Steve, I see you had a few issues down you way, hope it’s all out now. I think we are in for a dry summer, the winds blowing about 40 knots here today and it has been blowing like that the last couple of days. Bruce

Love your programme Bruce. You're a bit younger than me, i'm 83, still got all my marbles,LoL. Been on the road most of my life, cars, motorbikes, buses, taxi's, trucks including the odd TK Bedford Diesel, petrol tankers, (Atkinsons,) (Mobiloil) and a Traffic Cop for several years. Good on you Bruce, you tell it how it is, in a language we understand. Bob. New Zealand.

Thanks Bob, they say we are only as young as we feel, but I did feel my age refitting this radiator lol. Thanks for your kind words, Bruce

Man after my own heart. All bolts buffed and anti seized! That was good the seat panel was removable on some of the models you could only get in by those rear quarter flaps many unkind words have been said about the sod that designed that feature! Regards Chris

Thanks Chris, it’s actually no terrible with the floor piece removed as it’s quite a big opening, and because it’s so jacked up, you can basically stand when you walk in through the quarter flaps but there’s not heaps of room. thanks for watching, Bruce

Thanks for that, yes coming together slowly. I’ll change all the oils, re assemble the gear shift and clean the fuel system out and hopefully I can take it for a proper run! Bruce

Excellent work Bruce, you have a keen eye for detail and more patience than I have, I wouldn't have bothered too much cleaning up and repainting the radiator bits and pieces, you could end up doing the whole truck, sand blasting the chassis etc and repainting. Biggest pain with Bedfords and Acco's is the cabs don't tilt over and this makes working on the engine area a real pain. Can still remember my grandfather swearing at the old Acco AA-160 when working on the motor.😂

Thanks Dave, the truck has only very minor rust and I would like to get onto that before it gets any worse. I believe the truck has only done 21000kms and comes with all the original manuals from state forestry. I may end up painting the whole truck but I’ll see how I go. It’s in surprisingly good condition driveline wise. Your right, the cabs don’t tilt on these or the early accos. The acco 6x6 is parked next to this one and it is much harder to work on. The tunnel opening is smaller on the acco and the cab on this one is higher so there is alot better access in and around the chassis from underneath. You can almost stand up in the access behind the wheel. One commenter said the Bedfords are surprisingly easy to remove the cab to work on but I don’t want to be doing big job that each time I pick up a spanner. Bruce

@@bruceinaus Grandfather took the cab off the Bedford using the overhead crane in the shed, sold it after that. Funny thing was Bruce he whinged and moaned about the Acco AA-160, sold it and then bought a new C-1800 and C-2050 (Cummins) which had similar no tilt cab as the old AA-160. Great video on You Tube about some fellows who went all through the North Africa desert in a all wheel drive Bedford similar to yours.

Thanks for the video Bruce ! I enjoyed every minute. Good to see your little mate Jax . You know when you showed us that corroded water outlet in a previous video , I thought it looked like one off a Chevy . At least as best as I could see from prolly 12,000 km away . That rad and shroud was a bugger for sure . Again mate . I like the way you do a video, fully explain what you are doing and what is happening . Have a great day Bruce ! Scott 🌵

@bruceinaus 10 месяцев назад
Thanks Scott, yes Jax was trying to help where he thought he could 😂 one of the issues with the shroud is it’s quite large and heavy and I didn’t want to ding the new core which meant everything took a bit longer (over two afternoons/evenings actually). Thanks again for watching, much appreciated, Bruce
