Hey all, this week I decided to paint a Necromancer from Age of Sigmar. This model in particular is pretty nice because they are becoming a little more difficult to get your hands on. Warcry has become a pretty popular game for GW and this model is one of the leaders for an awesome skeleton warband. Not only will he fit right into a Death army, but he's battle ready for a skirmish in the Mortal Reals!

The original paint scheme looked like a good idea-but on the wrong figure. That colour scheme would have been excellent on a wizard , but the Necromancer you painted looked like he 'belonged' among the dead ! Great use of pigment and a really creepy looking result ! Thanks for posting !

For a while there I was considering continuing the original colors, but you’re right, it looked cool, but would have worked much better for a Wizard.

You did a really good job on this one, especially for trying something outside your comfort zone. The scratches/wear on the cloak is especially well done, gave it a very realistic look.

Great video! Especially how you recognized a way of challenging yourself just by mixing up such simple steps. I checked out your patreon. That $15 tier is TEMPTING. I can see you put a lot of thought into providing substantial benefits to your patrons. Metalhead minis does the same thing, you might really hit it off with them

The scratchy edge highlight gives the impression of a tattered, rough edge which totally compliments the eerie flesh tones. Seeing these get turned around is a true sight to behold. Great job sir

I'm about to paint my own necromancer that I kitbashed from Empire Wizards. I would never consider doing weathering on black with white/tan. Am going to try it out.

I wonder how you would feel doing a comic style paint job? Mike at Epic Duck does a lot of it and has me really digging the style.

Mike does an awesome job with it. I’ve thought about doing something like that for some robots, straight lines make it a little easier. Something that is kind of borderlands cell shaded would be fun to do :)

I have wanted an undead army for Song of Blades and Heroes or Kings of War. As always your work is great. The old school necromancer from GW or the Wright king to lead the army was my original idea.

you said you wanted to paint this one in a cartoon style. Have you ever tried to rescue a mini in the true historic style? I also really liked the glow from below look that was originally on the mini, would have like to see that one took to completion. But you did a really nice job with this one.

Now I want to grab me one of these guys to see what I can do with him...nice job, Casey! Oh, and when spraying primer (I'm using the Vallejo Surface Primer right now, and I'm keen to switch over to Stynylrez eventually) through an airbrush, what air pressure setting do you use (I've heard upwards of 60psi is good for spraying primer) and how much do you thin the primer? Also, do you use water or airbrush thinner to that end? I'm plunging head on into airbrushing and any tips will help.

For primer, especially Vallejo, I’m in around the 45 psi range, but I’m also using a Patriot 105 with a .4 needle, so it’s pretty big. Pressure depends on viscosity of the paint and your airbrush, so if you find a psi that works then stick with that! Stynlerez is thinner, so it doesn’t take as much as the Vallejo primer. It also tends to clog the brush a lot less, which is really what ended up making me make the switch. With both primers your don’t need to thin it, if you feel the need then you can use a little bit of flow improver, it will help dry tip if you are priming a lot of minis at once, but even then, I haven’t found the need to use thinners in primer. Just make sure your tip stays clean, you’ll get more tip drying than normal when using primer so that can cause the brush to not function properly. Hope that helps man!

@@eBayMiniatureRescues Thanks for the input! Mine is a Master G22 airbrush (not high end at all, I know), with a .3mm needle, if that helps at all, and its compressor seems to blow pretty hard. I'd feel more comfortable thinning the primer with what you said, and I'm inclined to maybe think that airbrush thinner might be my best bet, here? A Badger is next on my list of airbrushes to get when I improve at this, for sure, though.

Hey, do you accept commissions from over seas? I have a half complete predator I purchased for cheap, it's missing quite a few bits and I'd think it appropriate to use your resin printer to get the bits needed to return this tank back to its former glory. Are you interested?

Thanks! I suppose it depends. Hate is probably gonna be harder and harder to get. If you sell it now you’ll probably get good money, and if you’re not going to play it/paint it, then definitely. It’s likely the price will go up, but it also depends on re prints and new kickstarters. I haven’t followed Hate too much, so I can’t be sure if they will reprint it, but it’s more than likely. In a nutshell, If you’re not going to use it, and the price is right, sell it, if not, hold on to it and see what happens over the next year. Hope that helps!

OK, didn't get the gag on this one. Aside from your usual ones, I mean. No, no, don't tell me, let the frog live, just sayin', might have been a bit too subtle. I'll probably catch it if I rewatch tomorrow, I may just be tired. Can't just be highlighting mould seams; you do that in most episodes.

You quit on this model. You are a better painter than this. The model has issues with the cloak... the original scheme tried to account for it. you used pigment to bury it. neither worked. Sorry first time commenting...(way jharsher than I normally am) but I felt compelled to post this time though. I love the channel (music rocks). keep making them!
