Somebody sent me this Vintage Airin watch for a restoration. This dive watch is not in good shape outside and inside. It is equipped with a FE 140 caliber. Lets see if this vintage watch can run and look better after a restoration.

I see some comments stating that you should not use so much narration. I disagree. I think the more the better, especially when explaining unusual items or circumstances.

I enjoyed the video very much. While I appreciate the fact that you would give some love to a watch brand that isn’t popular (as I do too), I am requesting that you not choose an unknown brand for future videos again, because that raises the prices on eBay for me when I want to purchase them! 😀 I love sleeper brands that are well-made, like this Airin.

Lovely work. More videos to come please. A simple movement will be perfect. Anyway, i'm no watch expert, but i just noticed the rusted stem, is it ok to reuse it then?
@FrenchWatchCollector
@FrenchWatchCollector Год назад
Like I explained in the video the part needs to be replaced but it was late for delivery. It is easy to change a stem so I will do it later

From what I have read, Airin watches were made by Dodane in Besançon, a company which is still selling watches. I believe some older Timex watches had a somewhat similar calendar drive.

Well done. I love vintage watches like this. As a collector and hobbyist watchmaker with preference for vintage military and dive watches, not everything has to be a Submariner to enjoy. Love this watch. Thanks for the great content.

When that jewel jumped I nearly propped my phone. Wow this is more stressful then watching a thriller. It may be a generic mouvement but saying it isn't beautiful is not fair, this is one that has the beauty inside, dit you see the revel of the heart?
@FrenchWatchCollector
@FrenchWatchCollector Год назад
Hahaha. it is less nice than other more decorated Swiss movement. Lets say it is functional

You can find some cheap ones. After the calibers are very common so the parts are easy to find and not too expensive. Thanks for the nice comment

I've never quite understood how watches can be worn underwater when they don't have screwdown crowns. Perhaps the water pressure presses against the crown and seals it that way?
@FrenchWatchCollector
@FrenchWatchCollector Месяц назад
@@MichaelWilliams-mo1vv yes it is with the seals inside the tube and crown. For sure screwdown crown are better for under water

Jumping Cap Stone You say? What if the dial side and the balance side cap stones were originally mixed by a shoddy repair effort in the past not so long ago? That would also explain the very poor amplitude while the movement and the mainspring still were relatively clean.

How thick was that o-ring that you used for the caseback? And do you use that thickness for most of your watches?

I think it was a 0,9mm. I used the same thickness as the one that I removed and in function of the size of the groove
