if i may ask you a question i recently came to hold a 2nd hand troggoth hag but it missing its bag arm and thought you might point me in the right direction get doing what you do and thanks
@@skullbros3284 such a good model! I would do a couple of things. The troll Hag arm with the bag is pretty iconic, but there are very nice 3d prints you can get of a Female River Troll that are floating around on cults3d. Even if you don’t have a 3d printer there are Etsy sellers selling the model already printed for $28, so not a bad way to go if you wanted the original look. Otherwise you can set up an eBay search for a Forgeworld Troggoth Hag on eBay and have it email you whenever something new pops up, I’ve seen that piece you’re missing for sale before, all by itself, so it’s possible to find, but might take some patience. Last thing you could do is get hold of a river Troggoth arm and convert the mini so it doesn’t have a bag, but the arm is pretty similar, it could even be doing something else, like holding into a model or weapon or something. It really depends on how quickly you want to use the model, the 3d print is the quickest, and easier with an Etsy seller, and doing a conversion will get it done pretty quick too. Now that I think about it, you could even use some greenstuff and some kind of bone bit to make it like she got her arm cut off, put a guy with a sword on the base with her and make a dual out of it. Lots of ways to go! I hope that helps :)
ill test to see if i can get the convection to look right then work my way down your advice from there thank you for both your reply and the things ive learned till next time @@eBayMiniatureRescues
They started giving hints at a huge ork response when they had ghaz grind the entire waaagh to a halt when he heard that angron had a skull that looked suspiciously like yarricks. Hoepfully something good comes from it. Something like battle for armageddon: greatest hits. grey knights, blood angels, space wolves, and imperial guard vs orks vs angron and chaos. 4th war for armageddon here we come!
Bale-Eye! I got models in an estate sale. Young father passed away. I felt odd taking the models home. Had a cry. Then realized that any gamer would want their models to keep on fighting. They all joined my Waaaagh. Great video as ever, Casey!
Looks amazing. The bannner is great, but it could have been better if you had glued the paper onto a piece of tinfoil. That way you could have added some motion to the flag, making it more dramatic. Truthfully, I've never glued paper to tinfoil for a back banner/flag, but have painted basic designs onto tinfoil for banners. You could possibly also use the metal from a tin of superglue, but I guess that would also depend on how thick the metal of the tube is. Just be careful not to cut your fingers.
I feel like I've cut myself enough lately lol. I've definitely seen flags done this way and they do look great, more permanent too, something to think about for the next one!
I use a concentrated degreaser called LA's Totally Awesome. It's easy to get in the United States, but not so much outside. Any kind of concentrated cleaner does a pretty good job at stripping miniatures. Simple Green, Purple Power, things like that, if you can't get LA's.
Fun fact. Gork and Mork really liked Yarrick, so when he died they scooped up his soul and brought him to Ork heaven. Which is exactly what it sounds like. Dakka and Waaagh forever and ever, with a very uncomfortable commissar.
Your kindness to the original painter, whoever they are, and your desire to help and continue to be empathetic to them is your real gift Casey. Also, the mini looks great. Thanks for another great video.
Glad to bring back some good old nostalgia :) Sorry to hear about the fire though, Hopefully, you have been able to get back most of what's been lost since then!
@@eBayMiniatureRescues Thank you for your kind thoughts. I'm grateful. It happened in 1998. So I'm good thank you. But it did remind me of the pig iron ingot of miniatures i found in a biscuit tin in what was my bedroom. Lol have a great week my friend.
I still have my 90's Yarrick. Both of them actually. I always preferred the original to the one that got released in the late 90's during 3rd edition though.
Respectful, Beautiful and a wonderful result. I am in the awful place of trying to work out what to do with my younger Brothers Chapter and all the other models he collected in his life. Your Video has helped me today, I was having a bit of a bad moment. Thank you, Good Sir!
I'm very sorry for your loss, I am sure that has been difficult. That this video could possibly bring you any comfort is overwhelmingly humbling. Thank you for your comment and I truly hope that things become easier day by day.
@@eBayMiniatureRescues I"m 47. Things like this happen at my age. And hey, if my friend hadn't passed my wife, who was his roommate, wouldn't have moved in with me. So there's that.
A dear friend of mine passed away almost 4 years ago, he used to introduce me to this hobby, and used to play imperial guard. I don't even know if he owned this model, but I felt that bringing this model back to life, you did it for my friend as well. So thank you.
well every guard character abnd most marines should be dead by now considering the 1000 year time skip. Though on the other hand it makes Dante seem really silly for whining about living 1500 years when now every pre 9th edition named character is around that age
Having that little bit of extra impetus to make a model look especially good is always a plus, and he looks great! I agree about the stories you create on the table top with friends; in my circle, the words "ELF PANTIES!!!!!" still get a laugh every time from a game I ran quite some time ago--and no, nothing inappropriate was involved.
lol, perfect example! The weird things that we create and just keep going, and can be brought up without any other context that make someone laugh. Best part of the game :)
The backstory combined with the fact that it's Yarrick makes this one hit different. I'm pushing forty and this made me think about what will some day happen to the models I now cherish so much. A great piece, thank you so much.
This is actually more like what i wish this series would be. I love the idea of taking the original paint job and trying to match it as closely as possible but vastly improved. This was very satisfying and you did an amazing job recreating the original intended scheme.
I've been slowly moving into trying to make the rescue videos more specific like this one. It can be tough to find just the right models sometimes, but the ones I have gotten recently have been perfect for this treatment!
I'm a former GW employee, and the company saying you can't use this model etc is for me a load of rubbish. I worked for GW when they didn't dictate what could be in the table, the aim was to have fun, not try to control the habits of fans in their own homes. Personally carrying on using Yarrick as a character, if rules are no longer available, then come up with your own as long as opponent agrees. The aim is to have fun.
Re. Flags, it would be good if GW sculpted banners with the pole and crossbar as one bit with the option to glue a nice detailed plastic banner on top, otherwise you are free to make a big banner of your own.
I enjoy painting and working on my own armies. But after doing a commission and working on some gift models for friends, I find myself MUCH more motivated to paint and push my standards when I’m doing it for someone else. It’s really enjoyable.
This is one of my favourite miniatures ever! I remember when it came out, it made me turn away from Eldar and start collecting an Imperial Guard army!! Great video! Base edge should have been green though!
A very cool mini that you really did an awesome job with! Even mounted his proper banner! Well done! I also glad that you did a serious hat tip to both the previous owner and the history of that character mini! Epic!
I always loved this figure. Never wanted to play IG. But this figure is so awesome. I had a thought about buying one and painting up and using it as an allied Inquisitor to my space marines for current 40K rules.
I had and still have this model and actively played 2nd ed 40k with imperial guard. But to be honest i never ever used him in battle in shop or against friends as imperial guard characters were not a strong point of the army back then, And he was alot of points.
Nice! I have quite a few minis like that, where they just sit because playing in a competitive setting just doesn't work for the army, at least they are a pretty awesome addition to the collection overall. I have a small IG army that I am planning on playing small games with friends that this one is going in. I've never played IG and I doubt what I have is any good, but I imagine it will be worth it to see the model on the table again :)
Gentle warning: Acetone will also soften any cyanoacrylate based glues like superglue and any 'instant grab' type glues. On old metal models this will weaken or unglue the joints. On your Mrs nails it will strip her nail varnish (nail varnish is mostly superglue and pigment)
That was actually a piece of metal flashing that never got removed. I remember doing that to some of my models when I got them out of a blister pack way back in the day. There wasn't really any way to know out of the package what was supposed to be there and what wasn't, so a lot of the time pieces like that just got painted assuming they were part of the model. It fell off when I was cleaning the model, and the part where it was attached got cleaned and sanded down.
Yeah! I used to use Simple Green and it definitely works. Most, if not all, concentrated cleaners should work. The switch to LA's for most people was due to price. In the US you can get a bottle at pretty much all of the $1 stores, and there are plenty of those in the US, so it's easy to get and cheap! But the chemical makeup is almost identical in most cleaners like that so whatever you have access too should do the job :)
Half the models I buy are labeled "pro painted" lol. Honestly, it's about filtering out the results. I type Warhammer into the search bar, filter it by used, buy it now, lowest price, then add on the "painted/assembled" "damaged/missing pieces" category, and even sometimes "single model." That usually yields some really good results, and less expensive overall. After that you save the search and set up email notifications to only show you new things in the catagory, so you aren't looking through the stuff you've already decided you don't want. Every day an email shows up and you get to see the stuff before most people do.
I generally use Vallejo varnishes. They come in dropper bottles and I've never had any issues with them getting cloudy or anything. Testers was my usual go to, they had nice rattle can varnishes, but they are hard to find these days. I do use my Badger Patriot 105 for varnishing, that way I can be a little more aggressive while cleaning it and keep my nicer airbrush ready for paint. But as long as it gets cleaned out right when you use it, you can really use it with any airbrush you want.
What type of lamp is that you are using? Looks perfect for mini painting. Also, love what you do and how much diligence and care you put into your content. Thank you!
Thank you, I appreciate that :) The lamp I'm currently using is the Redgrass Games R9 lamp. It's nice, they sent it to me a while back to test out. The Kickstarter is still taking late pledges I believe, but it's a little pricey ($222) in my opinion. Still, a nice lamp if you want something super premium! www.kickstarter.com/projects/redgrass/redgrass-r9-desk-lamp-daylight-true-color-led-light?ref=9j6nfa&gclid=CjwKCAjwpJWoBhA8EiwAHZFzfrhsXDt_3mfiSDEBhlXS8UmIylq6Y-fPPkndQjurETvyWv_roGJhHxoC7mAQAvD_BwE
I have a friend who passed away years ago. Due to emotional circumstances, his armies were eventually lost to time, his mother giving them away years later. My friend was SOMEHOW able to find several of his old armies on ebay through complete random chance, models he knew were our friend's because he had helped him personally paint them (this was about 10 years after our friend's death). Our friend played Imperial Guard and Yarrick passed through my hands a few times. This original paint reminds me SO much of "our" Yarrick, that it brings so much up in me emotionally. It is almost impossible to tell if this Yarrick belonged to Bob, but in so many ways I pray it is. What this channel is able to do in inspiring in so many forms. The fact that you are able to resurrect these minis and often restore them to what the original painter intended is such a beautiful process. You give me hope and I love your channel. I wish I was able to support you more.
Yeah lead mountain widow! Great banner resource. Billion Dollar Clown Farm did a video on banners lately, highly recommend. Such a fun watch and good tips. Love this model Casey! Great work, fun to watch as always.
GW does this all the time because the fans always act the same way; they hold massive campaigns and collect masses of battle report data to determine the outcome of the story, but it's always the same result: Imperium wins, overwhelming victory. They needed to kill Yarrick, but not Ghazghkull, to introduce new characters and lore while retaining a serious Ork threat, but can't run the risk of the imperium's massive victory, yet again, ending Ghazghkull in the process. It's a mess of their own making because they heavily push Space Marines and Imperial forces over all others
@@eBayMiniatureRescues yeah I bought my AM army last december from a friend... It was at that time 1000 pts but I found a unopened Yarrick and decided I want him cuz he is still in legends little did I know that he is gonna disappear in 7ish months
It may not be lore accurate, because I am no expert, but my own personal 'head cannon' is that Yarrik is going to go on and on living to an impossible age. This happens because the firm belief of uncountable orks across the galaxy is "Old Bale Eye kant be ded, kuz Gazkul asn't killed im!" Its a measure of the Great Prophet Gazkul himself that he has such a fine enemy. They orks have made up their mind about it, theres going to be a real fine final scrap between them, and thats that.
I have to say, that paper flag is awesome! Suck that glue on the other side is visible. That wooden stick could be better and shoes. I think it’s another miniature where u don’t “care” about legs and shoes. But I couldn’t paint like that in 100 years so who cares. GJ and respect.
That base looks bad. Hope you revisit it some time soon and fix it. But good job on the model, nice clean work. I butchered my Yarrick to steal his bolter and make a kit bash upgrade to the old metal Morgan Ra model. The things my 15 year old mind thought about.
mate, this was great! i know goobertown hobbies had a similar video where he sort of honored someone scollection, who isnt there anymore (didnt you get the sisters of battle tank from tthat? was that something else?) your video did everything you thoight it would to me, love to see at least this piece of someones gaming history back in action again --- > game play report with the yarrik and your orks?
A much better way to paper flags is to make them double sided. Thats pretty straight forward just mirror the image on a editing program of your choosing. Then cut out the two sided flag and glue the two parts together with PVA. Gently use the handle of a brush or toothpick to make "ripples" in the flag by rolling it over the round surface, this will make it actually look like the flag is flapping in the wind. This eliminates the need to paint the back of it black, as that looks strange. Just a tip from a historical wargamer who is used to making flags for Napoleonic battalions.
Yes and no. There are still rules for models like this, and you can always play with every model they've made. It's just for current tournaments they limit it to specific models, kind of like Magic the Gathering where there is a current standard and there are older formats. Even then, if someone wanted to use this model in a game today using current rules, there's nothing really stopping them as long as the rules they are using properly represent the model. People are pretty cool overall, even if GW makes it hard.
@@biostemmyeah for sure, he just wouldn’t have any special rules for being a named character, but since he is a commissar model you could use him as such whenever you want.
Rather than paper flags I used to do the same thing with tinfoil/aluminum foil and then very gently bend it to shape to give it some dynamism. Really brought back some memories.
I remember when this guy came out originally, loved painting mine, gave him a great looking fiery claw (well i thought it looked good at the time) cheers for the video
Nice video. Was to see the respect you had for this person's model. Our paintjobs are a tiny part of us. On a less serious note, bring back the humble bavk banner GW!
I heard you referring to any person as "the Artist" when clearly the model on the screen was the product of a youngster that had only just begun their journey. Kudos to you for recognising the future and the potential.
I do love these where you do a skilled up version of what the original was going for rather than a full clean up and repaint, it feels kinder to the memory or intent of the person and less of a "I can do better so I'm going to". I also love that we're seeing more of the direct side by sides instead of the cuts between the two. Keep up the awesome work!
