The first trip after more than half a year at the peer aka another way to drive into city for a dinner...
The new electric rudder engines are doing well.
Shot in November 2017
"Euronaut" is a private project of a research and diver support submarine around Carsten Standfuss - a German naval architect. It has been designed between 1988 and 2000. Then it took another 12 years to build it on holidays, weekends and after work. Most systems on board are second hand and homebuilt.
The sub has overall length of 16 m (52 ft), surface displacement of 57 tons and is capable of diving up to 250 m (820 ft).
Transit speed is up to 6 knots with a 190 hp diesel engine. Electric drive measures 40 kW.
The life support system provides air for the crew of six persons for a week. The diving chamber allows saturation dives to the depths similar to the operational depth of the submarine.

I think if you put your mind to it and start early designing and learning how to skipper one you could probably build pilot one WAAAAY better bro !

@@anagreen4945lol ... Wenice way to encourage the future there man lol remember a long time ago when he said he was 8 years old ? I think he can worry about the capitol for his endeavors in a few decades if he gets his education and 2030-2050 who knows what ways there will be to collaborate or solo gain that and whatever else he may need .... Plus it a strong chance someone will have figured out how to get temps below -300 Kelvin. If this happens he will have almost an unprecedented uncanny access to many things and people to make his dream come true. Money as we know it may not even exist anymore .

I was just curious: Did you ever consider equipping your sub with hydrogen fuel cells, to give you extended time submerged? Versus just using batteries? {Thanks in advance!}

It won't be a low-cost project anymore.

Good day Kapitän I will ask if ur sub have a time to recharged even if submerged?
@Wrackzeichner
@Wrackzeichner 6 лет назад
Recharging only on surface, when diesel generator runs. Submerged the batteries take over.

Why no snorkel? Are they too classified or would put too many holes in the pressure hull?
@niccatipay
@niccatipay 6 лет назад
Snorkels give the ability to operate diesel engine's underwater. The cost of installing one is not very practical for a recreational sub. Say even if pirates got close, I doubt they need to go too far submerged before the pirated lose interest.

Does anyone know how thick the metal of a submarine hull would have to be for it to actually work?
@Wrackzeichner
@Wrackzeichner 6 лет назад
Depends on diving depth, pressure hull geometry and pressure hull material characteristics (such as tensile strength, Young modulus and so on). Your question is like: "Does anyone know how big the engine of a car would be for it to actually run". :-)
@adamcroes4567
@adamcroes4567 6 лет назад
Weelll... How thick is the metal on the Euronaut (and what kind)?
@Wrackzeichner
@Wrackzeichner 6 лет назад
22 mm thick and made of S355J2 steel
@mtumeumrani376
@mtumeumrani376 6 лет назад
Would Fiberglass be equally effective at that thickness? Or is steel still the better material? Which is harder to obtain? Fiberglass or steel?

@Wrackzeichner

Exhaust is in the upper deck, portside behind the sail. It is almost at the level of the waterline. The air inside goes through air scrubbers filled with soda lime.

Probably coasts more than you'd like it to, but after around 20 seconds it's more of a drifting... (a joke =D) but an amazingly cool vessel, an excellent use of spare time and resources. (A wife would likely disagree)

Mthammere2010 Short technical overview of the sub is in the video description
@Mthammere2010
@Mthammere2010 6 лет назад
Yeah what I meant was the depth tested and the theoretical depth. 820ft is the diving depth of most modern military submarines with HY-80, if you can achieved that with commercial steel, or did you guys achieve that depth or that's the theoretical, mathematical diving depth? Sry I'm being geeky
@Wrackzeichner
@Wrackzeichner 6 лет назад
+Mthammere2010 The pressure hull is made of ordinary S355J2 steel (referred in the US as A656 with yield strength of only 51,5 ksi instead of 80)
@Wrackzeichner
@Wrackzeichner 6 лет назад
+Mthammere2010 The submarine was never tested to full depth. Operational depth is 250 m, test depth is 320 and the calculated crush depth is over 535 m (820/1050 and 1750 ft accordingly). Euronaut has larger safety margins between operational and crush depth than usual
@Mthammere2010
@Mthammere2010 6 лет назад
Understandable, given the sub is recreational instead of tactical. Never have to worry about mines and torpedoes. Assuming you guys prefer the Baltic, assuming most ship wreckage is within your operating depth, given the destination is too deep for decompression. Euronaut must draw the jealousy of the regional dive clubs. I'm surprised Euronaut hasn't sparked regional competition, or has it?
