I upgraded my CPU's and you inadvertently showed me how to do it in your videos (Installing the iso through the java applet. I couldn't get anything else to work. There is another incredibly simple method to override and disable password input by simply toggling the System Maintenance switch on the motherboard (usually the first one on the jumper block). This allows you to access ILO without requiring a password.
"And that's it...." you just lost your iLO Advanced Licence........ Have you extracted/written down the licence before you did a reset of iLO settings? ***EDIT*** LOL... I see now that you have :D Ok, but let this be a reminder to anyone trigger-happy with the iLO reset...
I have problem with ilo card in c7000 blade server i don't know the password and i try to hard reset ilo card but unfortiently it doesn't response the signal lost and i had to reboot it and after rebooting there is no change happend is there any way to reset ilo card to default user and password so i can access it waiting for a response and thx in advance..
Thanks for the very useful video! Question, is it generally possible to somehow activate the video core built into the CPU in HP (HP ProLiant DL320e Gen8 v2) servers? For example in the Intel Xeon E3-1265L v3 processor? Or is this impossible? And can you only use embedded video?
Not that I'm aware of. If you're wanting to do video encoding in a server, I'd recommend a dedicated GPU or a consumer/desktop Intel CPU with QuickSync tech. E.g. I run an i9-9900K in my plex server for transcoding.

Hi, I tried the spp 8.1 updates through the link you provided on my dl580g8 and used ilo remote console cd rom but each time the system freezes. I had the same file downloaded before for my 380's and used that one too with the same issue. ilo 4 and bios are already up to date. What might be causing the system to freeze while starting up that spp 8.1 file? It gets to the screen where you can select automatic or interactive. But pressing enter or just wait for the timer to go to zero doesn't do anything. I appreciate your help!
I have a DL380 G8 with the dreaded "iLO Self-Test reports a problem with: Embedded Flash/SD-CARD" error. Couldn't get it to update the iLO firmware booting up on the 8.1 SPP. Ended up loading linux and running the update from the OS to firmware release 2.78. Reformatted the embedded flash as outlined in the HPE bulletin. Powered off, did it again. Still no joy. Tried updating to 2.82 iLO 4 firmware. Still have the flash card error, but now iLO functionality has become flakey. Screens load slow or not at all, stand-alone iLO console will get video but no keyboard input. Can I back-level iLO firmware?
Any notes on using the serial port connection? I've set 9600-8N1 and still no response during POST. Edit: instead of Auto, had to specify the actual serial port as Physical.

I bought an HP ML310e Gen8 V2, downloaded the bios, extracted... but it didn't extract anything. :/ I also bought an HP ML350e Gen8 which was a paperweight as the NAND failed and the RAID and iLO don't work. I also tried to download the FIRMWARE update, but those bave been DELETED from the HP site. I can't win.

Weren't Proliant DEC originally? We had some back 2000ish in dark grey then Compaq bought DEC and Proliant servers (white then) then HP (rack mounted). Proliant's were good we ended up going DELL a step backwards in remote functionality but price was the main reason. I have both DELL R410 and HP Proliant DL380 in my home lab - shame VMWARE is dropping ESXi for the ordinary lab-er. Probably have to go proxmox but at the time my labs were trying to mimic enterprise environments in the good ole days when TechNet was a thing you could run up all the M$ software (SQL, AD servers out the wazoo, IIS and some temp Citrix, SCOM/SCCM etc) the joys of running my home lab with no A/C and sweating away in 95 degree heat and being deafened by all the fans running full speed. Would have like to have go to blade but my fuse box would have exploded and my bank manager would have called me up many a times about the credit card!
When I reset ilo4, I have the same screen as you but it doesn't have an ip address (I search with my ip scanner). I restart the server and it says ilo4 ip : unknown. yet when it goes to pxe screen the server have a client ip address, but that address is not reachable. Do you know what the problem can be? Can it be the battery, so it doesn't keep the change? Sorry if I'm not clear enough, but english is not my first language lol
trying so hard to setup these servers without a damn VGA cable. Is there a jumper that can be used to clear this? I have basically arped ethernet to find the page to visit. Default login needs to work, need to reset LIO login without ever seeing the screen
hello sir, I am setting up ilo for the first time and there is a problem I have a hp proliant ml 370g5 server, I have a question for you should the internet cable be directly plugged into the ilo port ? if i should directly i have the same error " This site can't be reached ??? " to clarify, I watched your video, I reset the ilo and adjusted the chickens explained in the video. made a configuration so that the cable from my server which is included in the ilo, goes to my switch, and from the switch the cable goes to the laptop.The problem is when I pull up the browser and type in the ilo ip address. I get an error in the browser This site can't be reached ??? Please HELP ME ,thank you very much !!!
Thanks for the video. I'm familiar with Dells iDRAC and have been struggling to understand ILO. This will get me in the right direction with the other half of our server fleet. DO you have a good resource for the ILO license keys? I'm certain our predecessors never did pony up and get the full ILO license (if its the equivalent to the iDRAC Enterprice one time license, that is).

Hey nice content there! My ML350p gen8 goes blackscreen after running the „early system initialisation“ and i dont see any HP menu. Did anyone ran into the same issue?
You can always just set the network settings up in F8 screen and change the password in there as well. And retain the iLo Advanced Licence which makes remote console more powerful as after booting into an os makes the iLo console quit saying to upgrade to advanced.
Considering I got it secondhand, I wanted a complete factory reset, and even that didn’t wipe all the OneView and SNMP/host info out. Just reset the networking. iLO can be a LOT to contend with. The intention was to illustrate how to get it all updated. 🤘

Hi datacenterdude. I have a proliant dl380 gen8 server that i got from work. There was already esxi installed (6.7 i believe it was). I deleted the existing data store to start new for my own use at home. Now i'm trying to add a new datastore but i can't it always gives me an error - failed to create vmfs datastore. Was trying to search up online but whst i found did not help and I'm also new with this as I'm a network guy. I also wanted to try and start fresh and update my esxi to the latest one. I beleive esxi are free to use right?
i'm incredibly confused about the bios section of this video I've spent about an hour or two trying to find the new updated from files, is it something within the spp file? i really want to be able to update my rom
Unfortunately, it appears my own source of the SPP has been taken down and is no longer available and I've yet to find a replacement. My apologies. If you have an HPE support entitlement, it can be downloaded from their site.
@@datacntrdude I ended up finding a 2018 bios file from some sketchy source and it ended up working, been trying to wrap my head around why I've been struggling to install Linux mint OS onto the server until realising after reading up documentation that UEFI is just not supported on this specific model of proliant microserver gen8 machines. I'm in the process of formatting all my harddrives and my SSD I've installed into the optical drive bay and will attempt to install windows 10 or windows 2019 server edition to run a plex/media server. This video helped me a lot as this was my first major computer project and it's been such a headache but so rewarding. Thank you for your help! :-D
Got to be careful with HP Proliant Gen8, as the iLO 4 contains a firmware bug, resulting in iLO bricking itself via writing the nand to death. We're at HPE Proliant Gen11!.
Actually I just had a similar thing happen on a project I was working on for a college. Pretty much the ProLiant Gen 8 completely bricked itself but luckily we had a redundant server in our data center and the appliance got decommed
Have a DL360pG8 that won't connect An error occurred during a connection to 192.168.15.136. Cannot communicate securely with peer: no common encryption algorithm(s). Error code: SSL_ERROR_NO_CYPHER_OVERLAP -- Can this be fixed with re-flashing the iLO firmware? I've not been able to download something that doesn't require Windoz. There's got to be something. Please help
Hey! If you're still having this error, try this: To access iLO 4 IP in Firefox: Type about:config in search box security.tls.version.enable-deprecated change to true Then try the IP again.
Great video! I personally didn't update to the latest ILO4, I got the modded 2.77 that has fan controls, pretty useful to quiet down a 1U when you don't have a dedicated place for server equipment ... Also keeps the wife happy :D
Can the fan control feature also be applied to the HP Proliant DL380 G7 which uses the iLO3 version? I am experiencing a problem regarding fan noise on the Proliant DL380 G7 which cannot be controlled manually And when I searched on the internet, most of them used iLO4 while the DL380 G7 still used iLO3 Do you have a solution regarding this problem?

I hit a similar thing. Your P2000 has taken over primary display. Go into your BIOS (F9) on boot and look set display preference to the onboard, not the discrete. That should get it done. That said, iLO is basically just a web server you're pulling over ethernet, so I'm surprised it's affecting that. My problem was with my local KVM. Let me know if that fixes it!
@@datacntrdude I do use HP KVM, i just want to be able to use ILO beyond BIO setup. That's the issue i'm having. The web ILO is working but not ILO remote Console feature. :(

I love how I came here to learn some stuff about iLO for my DL380 G9 I just bought, and then I started gawking at your office space and started wishing I had a finished attic to do that with lol
@@chrisumali9841 if you’re referring to the local drives in the servers, I just found them on eBay. Just search for HP gen8 (or whichever gen you have). They’re interchangeable between 360 and 380. There’s also a SAS SSD if you’d prefer.

Thanks so much. I bought this server (380) from a flea market. The iLO firmware was from 2013 and system ROM was from 2014!! I used your video guide to update the firmware to 2024 version. It feels much better now!! The new remote access is awesome.

@@magesnzI've also ML350p Gen8 here and there was time where all those downloads,also the newest SPP, were behind that contract bs. But a week ago, i logged in and could download everything easily. Probably they changed that
