I started way back in the 90s with a Mechanical Engineering education, and an offer from a random friend to pull Ethernet cables through plenum ceilings in an office park for $10/hr. This led to some lucky opportunities, a lot of lessons-learned the hard way, and eventually an MCSE 2000 certification, all before getting dropped head-first on the doorstep of virtualization, 10G Ethernet, and shared enterprise storage.
For the last 20 years, I have lived in and around Enterprise tech, both hands-on, and at multiple vendors, and even helped a brand new startup successfully get off the ground as part of the first 50 employees.
In my spare time, I enjoy home projects, building my studio, live streaming, podcasting, & creating content. In my past, I was also a Guild Master and Raid leader for World of Warcraft, have almost a sick fascination with professional wrestling, and love giving tips on growing an epic beard.
Thanks for the video. I'm familiar with Dells iDRAC and have been struggling to understand ILO. This will get me in the right direction with the other half of our server fleet. DO you have a good resource for the ILO license keys? I'm certain our predecessors never did pony up and get the full ILO license (if its the equivalent to the iDRAC Enterprice one time license, that is).
Hey, thought I'd check this channel out! I know next to nothing about servers but your videos are presented in such a nice way and I wish you well on all your future projects! :)
Great video! I personally didn't update to the latest ILO4, I got the modded 2.77 that has fan controls, pretty useful to quiet down a 1U when you don't have a dedicated place for server equipment ... Also keeps the wife happy :D
Is there a way to 'rotate' or automatically change movie posters as you browse? Something similar to how Zune did on the Now Playing screen with album art rotating in the background.
Personally, with a library as big as mine has gotten, I don’t want anything to do with that, I just let Plex handle it. I’m not aware of a mod or plugin that does that. You can override the automatic selection from the pencil icon and Poster tab, or upload your own.
Question: how did you handle the pass-through from you ISP's cable-modem/fiber-modem? This is great! I have been using a pfSense/Netgate virtual appliance in the cloud for work and it's SO incredibly configurable. So many things you can configure to secure your network, monitor traffic, IDS, routing, VPNs, CA, Certificates, etc.
I replaced their modem with my own CPE. An ARRIS Surfboard 8200. Everything ya need, nothing you don’t. Its entire job is to fetch and hold a public IP from the ISP and hand it to the outside interface of the firewall.
@@datacntrdude perfect! I used an ARRIS at home previously and back the. Was doing security appliance with a WRT+Ubiquiti setup. PfSense seems way better a fit now. Thanks for all that you do!!!!
I actually aquired the 16port modell last week still gotta get some sfp stuf fbut already am working with mikrotik and i preffer switchos over router os tbh
Mikrotik is compatible with most networking devices .when employed in radius saver its smother and a monster in networking ,from rb 3011,rb 4011 ,crs series and above shall never disappoint
Weren't Proliant DEC originally? We had some back 2000ish in dark grey then Compaq bought DEC and Proliant servers (white then) then HP (rack mounted). Proliant's were good we ended up going DELL a step backwards in remote functionality but price was the main reason. I have both DELL R410 and HP Proliant DL380 in my home lab - shame VMWARE is dropping ESXi for the ordinary lab-er. Probably have to go proxmox but at the time my labs were trying to mimic enterprise environments in the good ole days when TechNet was a thing you could run up all the M$ software (SQL, AD servers out the wazoo, IIS and some temp Citrix, SCOM/SCCM etc) the joys of running my home lab with no A/C and sweating away in 95 degree heat and being deafened by all the fans running full speed. Would have like to have go to blade but my fuse box would have exploded and my bank manager would have called me up many a times about the credit card!
Mikrotiks Flagship Switch and Router model costs less than a new iPhone that's wild. When I switched to Fiber from Cable my new ISP installed a Mikrotik HeX router. I first I was a bit turned off by it but once I sat down for a minute and checked it out I realized how awesome it is. Their RouterOS and SwitchOS are built on Linux and the command line terminal makes setting up your router so quick and easy. They have a good wiki on their support page and a RU-vid channel that makes it easy to just copy and paste in settings to your router, I love it.
Can you provide a download link for the SPP? I have DL360 & DL380 G8’s but didn’t save the SPP before my Service Expired and now I can’t download the SPP. Please!!
You can upload the other files to update the version of the ILO and the Bios to use the same versions of yours for a very grateful HP Prioliant dl360p Gen 8
Thanks for the very useful video! Question, is it generally possible to somehow activate the video core built into the CPU in HP (HP ProLiant DL320e Gen8 v2) servers? For example in the Intel Xeon E3-1265L v3 processor? Or is this impossible? And can you only use embedded video?
Not that I'm aware of. If you're wanting to do video encoding in a server, I'd recommend a dedicated GPU or a consumer/desktop Intel CPU with QuickSync tech. E.g. I run an i9-9900K in my plex server for transcoding.
venia hacindo todo los paso bien, y quedo en step 3, la barra de proceso quedo casi en el final. Y dice "deployment started" y esta asi hace mas de 1 hora...
great video, but where do you get the iLO4 License Actibation Key @10:31? do you have to buy it from HPE? or is it printed somewhere on the server chassi?
"And that's it...." you just lost your iLO Advanced Licence........ Have you extracted/written down the licence before you did a reset of iLO settings? ***EDIT*** LOL... I see now that you have :D Ok, but let this be a reminder to anyone trigger-happy with the iLO reset...
Thanks so much. I bought this server (380) from a flea market. The iLO firmware was from 2013 and system ROM was from 2014!! I used your video guide to update the firmware to 2024 version. It feels much better now!! The new remote access is awesome.
I have problem with ilo card in c7000 blade server i don't know the password and i try to hard reset ilo card but unfortiently it doesn't response the signal lost and i had to reboot it and after rebooting there is no change happend is there any way to reset ilo card to default user and password so i can access it waiting for a response and thx in advance..
Mikrotik powers up small ISPs such as Vodafone Portugal ;). Actually, CRS3xx, CRS5xx, and some CCR support L3 hardware acceleration almost at wirespeed making CRS317 a beast of a router by a fraction of the price when compared to CISCO, NEC, HP, etc. You can actually spread the entire BGP table by four CRS317 ASIC Switch because their TCAM can handle it! It would be stupid to say that they have their limitations because let's face it They Do! But, so do others. I'm amazed by the route path Mikrotik has taken into the Switch World. Hope they keep adding futures to the Marvel ASIC chips.
i just started researching 10gb networking recently and mikrotik came up - very impressed with what i've seen so far and cool that their OS is linux based. i'm a google fiber customer and just noticed they have 5gb and 8gb service now so might have to do some upgrading!
If you have a CIFS copy that fails because the destination ran out of space, do you use another "xcp copy" command to resume, or do you have to switch to "xcp sync" to get it to pick up where it let off? When I use back to back "xcp copy" in this instance, it seems like it restarts from the beginning. Using xcp 1.9.3.
