Reset Windows 8 Tablet to Factory setting by SurfaceTabletTips 

The first time I had a surface tablet PC, I was to exciting that my password was long and complicated to remember. When I am this excited, I sometime did stupid thing such as not writing my complicated password down to a piece of paper. Then the next day I forget what was my password. I tried and tried. In conclusion, This video is helpful for people like myself. I will like to thank for make this video and help on making more.

IF YOU DON'T HAVE A KEYBOARD: Click on the Accessibility button on the lower left and bring up the keyboard and follow the same procedure. Use THIS pop-up keyboard to locate the SHIFT key.

This was extremely helpful in resetting my ATIV 500T after someone put a password on it which is an Win8 Pro not RT device.

For those that dont have the keyboard follow this: Go to the button on the screen on your left hand corner click it and it'll give you option and click on keyboard. when the kb comes up press shift leave it highlighted and the press restart and it'll take you to the boot menu.

this really works!!! it takes a while but it's worth it. thank you this as helped alot, your the best 😊 😊

ty 20,000 videos out there - THANKS for EASE - I think I must have typed incorrectly setting up my password very frustrating but I havea USB in I will add a recovery disk file I didn't really even have anything on it

Thanks for the instruction. I allowed me to regain my hard drive space that Windows ate up with their Windows 10 update file! I only had 300 MB left and couldn't do anything with my tablet. I feel like sending Microsoft a bill for my time fixing their blunder!

Thinking about it a little more, it is probably not that different from any other tablet / PC. If someone has physical access to your machine it is "easy" to wipe in most cases (boot from "DVD" and delete everything on HDD) .

Interesting video. Did I miss something maybe, since this looks like a major security issue: anyone can reset / remove / delete your profile on your windows 8 RT machine?

You can do this without a keyboard. Swipe in from the right on the screen. Select the image of the gear for settings. At the bottom is a link that says "Change PC Settings." Select this. You will now be at PC Settings. Choose the bottom option, "Update and Recover." Then choose "Recovery." You want to pick "Remove everything and reinstall Windows." Follow the prompts from there.

I figure out reason why people say it took long to reset cause maybe you had too many stuff installed or saved and if you don't have a keyboard try holding the unlock bottom on top or the volume down bottom

Thats nice and all but how do you set factory defaults if the damn thing wont even start? It was updating something and ran out of power and now wont star at all (Showing asus logo and thats it) Or do I have to take it to repair?

I perform the instructions step-by-step , arrive at the Troubleshoot-> Reset your PC -> but won't let me press anything after this ( next or cancel) . This is happening also for Command prompt. I forgot the password of the account i have on the Tablet and now i can't use it. Any help?

Hi,my surface pro 2 went of while reseting was in progress at 96% and don't wan't to go on any more even while charger is on..Help!!!

You can set a bios password if you are worried about security. Then someone would not even be able to boot the device.
