I learned about resetting my Tesla Battery from Kim Java and as this video shows it does work you just need to get it to a very low state of charge so the BMS system can see the full potential of a charge. Hope this helps!

A Tesla Service technician sent me a slightly different procedure for rebalancing the battery. It has worked for me in the past. Please allow the SOC to drop down to 30% and let it rest for 4 hours. This will allow the cells to rest and allow the battery calculate a better resting state. Then charge the vehicle back up to your comfortable charge percentage or 100% SOC. Once fully charged leave the vehicle plugged in for a few hours and this will allow the cells to stabilize at the upper limit. This will need to be performed for a few weeks to maximize the calculated range.

Thanks for the video! I’m always looking for ways to improve the accuracy of my mileage readings. I got my M3 LR in 2020 with 322 miles of range, and nowadays I pretty much get similarly to you - around 280-290. I read on a Tesla forum a while back when I first got my car, the following procedure in getting mileage accuracy: try to put your car at various states of charge (20ish %, 30ish %, 40ish %, etc.. 80ish %). And each time you’ve dropped down to a state of charge, let your car go to “sleep” for at least 4 hours or so, meaning, no logging into the app, turning off certain functions like cabin overheat protection, sentry mode, etc, that keep your car “awake”. You used to be able to swipe The Tesla widget on the iPhone urns it would tell you if you’re car was asleep. Anyhow, allowing your car to “sleep” for several hours at various states of charge allows for it to take more accurate readings over time... Like maybe several weeks ti a few months. I gave this a try for a couple months but it was when I first got my car when I still had my full range. I’d be interested to see if you’d consider giving this a try sometime and seeing the result. I travel 100% for work and usually leave my car at 90% when I’m out of town for 2 weeks. I live in Austin and my overheat protection kicks in a lot and I get a hearty amount of battery drain by the time I’m back home for the weekend. If anyone is interested in the technical post on it … teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/how-i-recovered-half-of-my-batterys-lost-capacity.204712/ On a side, why are all of you Tesla RU-vid channel guys sexy AF 😎

I thought that the model 3 needs to sit for a couple of hours with sentry mode off so that the contractors will open and it can make an accurate measurement. I think you would get a better result to do it again but let it sit with sentry mode off for a few hours before charging. I think it would also be better to charge slower at home to 100% and let it do that overnight so that the charging system has more time to even everything out.

Yeah, it’s based on your watt hour per mile and then divide that number by the kW/h available in the pack. Just change to % and you won’t ever care about the total mile number. It’s like with your cell phone. We use percentage and not hours of talk time or hours of video watching. If you’re driving fast or spirited you know you’re going to drain the battery faster than if you’re driving 55 on a highway behind a semi.
@StephenWhitesdw1

if you can or cant "reset " your battery depends upon what kind of battery (LFP?) your car has! I tried to do this in my 2020 Model3 and got the same results that you got Gjeebs!!

Most videos on RU-vid leave out the fact that there is a buffer of about 5% to 7% used by Tesla battery management system for just-in-case situations. For example, if you are driving long distance and you are out of charge and your Tesla's screen shows 0% charge, your Tesla car can still drive for another 15 - 20 miles due to the fact that Tesla already has put a buffer in your battery management system to prevent that your batteries becoming 100% depleted which will likely cause damage your battery. So, your 11% loss of range (which you mention in your video) minus this 5% to 7% buffer means that you mostly likely and actually have about 94% to 97% of your originally capacity and range which your car has been originally certified for when new.
@BlakeCheck
@BlakeCheck 2 года назад
My experience with rated rated recalibration has been about the same. Rated range always seems to be higher the lower my SoC is. I’m averaging between 275 and 280mi on my 2018 P3D-. Down about 10% from the original 310. I keep everything in sport mode. I wonder what would happen if I changed to normal or chill for like a month.
@SuperCaryG
@SuperCaryG 2 года назад
Tap the percent on your screen, you will see what the car's estimated range ( You can toggle back and forth). You could have found this out after you charged to 100 percent. Another thing you can do is buy a OBD reader which will give you the actual current estimate of your useable battery, and range among a bazillion other useful metrics. Your viewers should know that it's a good practice to allow your car to sleep often which helps with battery balancing and allowing your BMS to accurately estimate your range correctly. Drive your car down to 10-15 percent maybe once a month if you are not using the full pack often can help as well, or just stop thinking about. If there's a issue with pack the car and Tesla will tell you. I stopped topping up my battery for daily driving unless I had a small trip planned the next day. I also have a OBD reader and helps me better understand my car and what it is doing.

Gjeebs I think I need to do this with my Model Y also. The vast majority of our charging is at home with our level 2 Tesla charger. The range now at 80% is showing 235 miles. It used to be about 280 miles at 80%. It’s scary to think about driving it down really low but I’ll give it a try.

This is awesome, I will say though I was told that it isn't good for the battery to charge to 100 percent due to a higher rate of degradation and it hurts the health of the battery. You also shouldn't discharge those batteries as well it destroys them. My relatives were the ones that told me this from personal experience and the cost for a new battery is crazy it isn't worth it not to mention the pollution they make in the environment after they break down. They say that they are better for the environment but the way the batteries are disposed of after they are worn out isn't good. Personally, I think we would be smarter to stay with petrol vehicles at that point. Overall you did a great job on this video and I love your content keep it up!

One thing that might be affecting the batteries range is how much you are using the AC. I have been running my sister around for errands recently and she loves keeping the car ice cold inside which affected my range drastically. Also my AC filters was in need of being changed until the other day when I changed them out. Smells much better inside now. Just my two cents.

Surely a reset just confuses the system that the battery has more capacity than it really does, as you are removing the information needed to more accurately assess the capability of the pack. I guess, you will know when it says you have 40 miles range, but it won't move.
@TheAdventureAuto
@TheAdventureAuto 2 года назад
One trick is to take your current mileage and divide it by your percentage remaining. So when you were at 15 miles and 5% left you do this math(15/.05=300) It has a variance within the percent due to each % having roughly 3-4% within it. But it has worked for me to do quick math to see total range.
