Can we have different page numbering on a few pages out of a larger Word document? With Section Breaks, you can differentiate segments of your document. In this video tutorial, Neil Malek from Knack Training will demonstrate how to insert Section Breaks, page numbers, and update the style of those numbers.

I'm currently typing up my mum's poetry and children's short stories book and needed the numbering to start after the prelim pages, and also to miss a number mid book when introducing the short stories. I've spend hours trying to do it - and was getting so frustrated - but then I found your video. It's superb and so easy to follow. Thank you. Thank you SOOO much. I have struggled for days to fix the page numbering in my book. I have watched multiple videos and read many instructions. What I was missing each time was found at 3 minutes in your video. Same as Previous and Link to Previous. From that info I was able to solve it very quickly. You are literally the answer to my fervent prayers.

This is exactly what I needed to know. You explained it completely and I was able to resolve my issue. I removed the link to previous from the headed but didn't know I needed to remove it from the footer also. Thanks so much!

Thank you! This IS helpful. At the same time, I long for the easy days of just typing in text and numbers. Oh sure, the EDITING is more of an aggravation when you're using the dinosaur of a regular typewriter, but setting up page numbers on a computer DOCUMENT page is a dance and I am NOT a dancer. My biggest worry is that , as soon as I get THIS new step figured out, Microsoft will re-structure this whole 'DANCE' .

Thank you, this is very helpful! I'm still trying to figure out how to do pagination where SECTIONS are I, II, III, and pages are 1, 2, 3... To have the footer look like I-1, 1-2, 1-3... then the next section is II-1, II-2, II-3... etc... I never knew this could be so hard!

thank you! I have just one question when I do a section break the page number goes back to 1. Is there any way I can continue from52 to 53 if there is a section break? It goes to 1 suddenly…

tried it, i need to put numbers on a specific page, there are pages before the page of content and I need the numbering to start at the page of content and onwards but it seem to number them from page 1 to 10 then restart 1 to 10 so it doesn't put 11-12-13 etc

ok so i need serious help. i have pages 1-26 then i added 2 new sections because I am doing 26A and then 26B so they will be section 2 and section 3 and then i am starting again from 27-31 and they will be section 4. i have unlinked to previous and i have removed all section breaks and just put page breaks and every time i change the first page (27, they all change to 27 and not follow through 27-31. Am I missing something?

ok but how do i do the opposite?? For some reason my document is restarting page numbers halfway through and i don't want it to! And i tried to remove all section breaks but that didn't fix it. Plz hlp

Hi, what can I do if my page numbering in the header are linked to my headings, but I have to use Next Page break because I need to separate my footers? Currently, I can separate my footers through Next Page but my page number heading are affected because of the section break. I hope you can help me. Thank you

Thanks so much for sharing. you are very clear. When I inserted my table of content to i and ii, I used page # of total number. The total number has two extra number, for example: page 40 of 42. The two extra are used up with i and ii. Since page 1 start after ii, the total count is two less. How do I correct it. Appreciate for any help.

I came here looking for this same thing. I did all the right steps. However, it seem if you put Page __ of __, the former resets as intended, but the latter does not (it justs lists the total pages in the document). Please let me know how to correct this.

problem I am having is that, I am using a kindle template and I have pasted text in it, now I think, although its one document but it has several sections and page numbering makes no sense. i need an easy way to start numbering the whole document like it had no sections or complications.

I have been for YEARS to figure out a problem I have : I have a document which has which has several sections and each section has "different first page". I am using continuous numbers at the bottom on the left and the right hand side. The problem is : every time a new section begins, the left and the right are not aligned. When I turn off the "different first page", the page numbers become correct. What's happening?
