Just switched from Steam to standalone for all the right reasons and loving it for the known reasons. However, only to find out Reshade doesn’t work with OpenXR. Such a shame, but hopefully a solution will come in due time.
Reshade is also good for people that export the MFDs to a separate screen. The exports are always darker than in the cockpit (a DCS "feature") but with Reshade UI Mask feature you can just make those parts of your screen brighter so your exported MFDs look the same as the ones in cockpit.
This is kind of silly but I really dislike that idiots who want to rag on DCS for “needing reShade” to look good. Sorry, that is just bullshit. I have done substantial photo editing (Capture One, it’s Lightroom’s competition) and this is effectively sliders on photo/ tone mapping. At the end of the day, it’s opinion and intention about what looks better. Some people like sharp, others think sharpening effect is ugly. Some like high color saturation, others think once you push it high, it looks ugly. Same for contrast, highlights, shadows, and so much more. It’s great that reShade let’s you adjust these things to your liking because more people are having fun. But let’s not be silly and think it improves the game’s graphics in an objective way - all the way to saying “you need this.” Also, funny thing is, if you’re adjusting colors and other basic settings with reShade, you could just as well be adjusting your monitor. So how can we put that on the devs if your monitor is poorly set up? In reality, reShade is just saying you don’t like the opinion of the original artist who probably has a better calibrated monitor than most. Even more tricky, what should DCS really do with the sun? In reality monitors have far less dynamic range output. There’s no way you could see the cockpit under the cloud deck, and then fly above it to direct sun and actually see both without the eye adjusting to let in more or less light, and the human brain processing the visual impact differently. Games only emulate such adjustment effects when they are being cinematic to show the human perspective.
Quite the comment. Don't know why you assume I'm bashing the developers over at Eagle Dynamics, never once was that stated or implied. Not sure if I ever once mentioned it improving graphics as well, I mentioned textures, colours, clouds, etc. In my opinion, it looks better with ReShade, that's MY opinion, like I stated in the video. Now that I have your opinion, thank you and have a great day.
@@BlackHornetSim you’re not bashing it. Your title just feeds into those who do. Who you may, or may not know exist. To be clear, I was addressing those who are basher, and those who are aware (likely to be reading). Informationally, your video is fine. Incidentally, may have fed some silly demons - which happens. I’m not asking for an apology.
Ah, I understand. In that regard I whole heartedly agree with you, the game is spectacular. To sit and bash it based off a few minor, or even major bugs here and there is absolutely ridiculous. The amount of time the developers have spent crafting this beautiful simulation, listening to feedback, implementing changes....you can't make everyone happy, but I feel like anyone with common sense is. That being said, people will complain about next to anything these days, criticize everything, while I'm just sitting here happily flying. I do appreciate your comment, and point of view on the topic!
The stock game is ugly lol, don’t care what they intended - it looks so much better to me that I can’t go back. My single thread install has reshade, the new multithreaded one does not. The difference is dramatic and I’m not running MT until I make sure I can use it. My opinion, my preferred path forward. You do and look at whatever you like.
@@MrHallTV "the stock game is ugly, I don't care what they intended" and what your pretending to agree on when you say "You do and look at whatever you like" are a contradiction. The game looks ugly to you. Fine. Reshade makes it look better. Fine. Run it. You come out in public forum thrusting that opinion in front of those who didn't ask - even worse - you force it on me who ALREADY illuminated the subjectivity on the matter. Like, who are you kidding? You are the problem. In your fantasy world, you start a cult that overthrows the developers at ED to make DCS shaded exactly how you please and somehow it turns out "you were right" all along and DCS community is better off for it. I'm going to be blunt, you are the nut job I was referring to.
I personally prefer the reshade. It all comes down to the preference and if you enjoy the base game. Just trying to show there are ways to shade it if you'd like, definitely not trying to change anyone's opinion. Happy flying!
I like the look of my desktop when I'm not in DCS and other games as well. I just use ReShade to change the settings of the active game rather then the whole monitor.
You know, I never did check those out in DCS so I had no idea they didn't work. I tried the filters in MSFS but still preferred ReShade to be honest, but I know a bunch that prefer the Nvidia filters in MSFS.
i just found out right now with your video that there was a bin mt!!! well ive tried it, set up reshade, my fps jumped from 87 to 247.. i maxed everything and fps in f16 free flight is 220
@@BlackHornetSim: That's unfortunate since I just went VR and am trying to clean things up a little better, still learning the tweaks so hopefully something works there to sharpen things up better.
Cheers buddy, much appreciated! Regarding VR, I am not 100% sure as I don't have it. I have heard SteamVR works with ReShade, however OpenXR does not and I am not sure about Oculus.
224 / 5.000 Resultados de traducción Resultado de traducción Hi, I have struggled with the reshade, with the multithreading update it does not work for me in VR, in 2D perfectly and with the version that is not multithreading it works for me in both VR and 2D. I have done everything and nothing at all
which version of Reshade are you using for the latest DCS version? When I install Reshade, I'm always in the water because loading the terrain takes forever. I also have about 25 frames less :(((
Hey man good video but seems like I have a problem with Reshade and DCS : basically when I try to install it and the window that should let me choose the game appears I just don't see DCS listed there. How can I fix this? Thanks!
Sometimes it won't show up there so you have to manually path it. Click on "browse" and go to where the DCS.exe is. For me it's in the "DCS World Openbeta - bin-mt" folder. Or just the bin folder if you're not running multithreading.
It works for the stand alone version, yes. I've since switched over to that rather than Steam. Regarding VR, I've heard it's hit or miss...especially with Open XR not being supported anymore.
I ran into that problem yesterday as well with the Normal, Open Beta version, couldn't figure out why it wouldn't show. It works still no issues in the MT version though.
@@BlackHornetSim I haven't had a secondary monitor for a while now. Almost wondering if a security policy is stopping it. Goes through installation and compiling, but can't get it to work even with suggested fixes from reshade.
If you have any idea on how to display the reshade menu on to a specific monitor, that would be great. It wants to display the menu on a usb monitor which I cannot see or view the entirety of the menu. I guess I can turn off the USB monitors and set it that way, then turn the usb monitors back on. But haven't been able to figure out how to specify a monitor for it come up on.
Checking in the settings the only thing I can see that might help is all the way at the bottom, the setting "OSD position on screen". I have mine selected for "Top right". I tried looking on their forums, but that section of their site is down.
Playing VR I get all kinds of issues with gamma, especially in the F4. I have to crank it up to read some gauges and turn it down so the outside is not too bright and washed out. Turn it up to almost maximum for night missions and way down for daytime clear skies. It is an issue for all aicraft but somehow its worse for the F4. Any tips on this would be nice.
Hello, for some reason it wont give me the popup window for tutorial when i install it, and it doesnt respond to the HOME key, i followed the instructions and nothing seems to fix it, ik this an older video but it would be much appreciated if someone could help out.
Not a problem. I logged into a populated multi-player server and flew around for a while with no issues. I also searched a few forums and was able to find this as well, forum.dcs.world/topic/254194-reshade-with-multiplayer/ Hope this helps 👍
I've heard there's issue regarding this and VR. There's this however, I hope it helps. forum.dcs.world/topic/312893-reshade-working-with-openxr-opencomposite-and-pimaxxr/
i tried this and it seem to be working fine but then glitched on me! i dont know why ??? my game was working fine but then started stuttering etc... I unstalled it and all was fine and working again
Agree! Been using reshade for a long time... so long I'm afraid to update it as going through/remembering all the setting..... is there an update that keeps settings now?
You should be able to save a profile. That way you can just load it up if you update it. I only updated mine because of the MT version, and I don't use a lot. If yours isn't broke, don't try and fix it I'd say.
@@BlackHornetSim Lol... and thanks for replying. The lol is for same reason, MT version. Last statement is Wisdom ; ) I put the new version Reshade on MT and the old one stayed with ST (single thread) YEA!. The thing I use and want to use is "Clarity".... you'd like.... I just got done messin with it now gonna download the "full" version Reshade to see if "Clarity" is in it. BTW, HDR is great!... in some places... awful in others.... O7
Grrrr... not that one... must be a package I downloaded with it other than the default 2.... age sucks....along with it being a lot of years using reshade on dcs... .... found it! It's "AstrayFX" package.... tired tho and will mess with later.....
I found curves threw it off quite a bit, I don't use it anymore. Other than that I find it doesn't make it too dark, but curves definitely darkened it a bit.
do i need dcs openbeta, becuase mine wont work, it doesnt give me the pop up menu at the start Edit:i figured it out and got it to work, i downloaded openbeta, then launched mt
I seem to be having issue with not getting the pop up once booting DCS on the completion. I verified that I opened up the correct Executable but nothing....?
No, DCS is currently still DX11, they've just manually added multithread/multi-core support. Previously at most DCS would use "3 cores", 1 for 'game', 1 for 'sound' and 1 sometimes for modules that hard coded certain features (like the m2000 radar). Now it (mostly) properly spreads the load of all the bullshit tasks like scripts to other cores, and leaves the render pipeline (the shit that actually matters for frame rate) on a single core. with SteamVR you can technically force DX12, however this literally does nothing except cause problems, as its just running DX11 through a DX12 compatibility layer. Vulkan is "coming soon" but we still don't know when, they promised it to us LAST YEAR, yet here we are without and and half-ass implementation of MT that tends to CTD waaay too often.
The DCS MT executable isn't working for me. I managed to get it to open one once somehow but reshade didn't load, so I'm just using the regular version for now. 4090 and 13900KF so I'm still getting 150+ fps, just curious how it would run in MT mode
THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEO NICE WORK I HAVE CONCOCTED A PRESET PLEASE I WILL LEAVE A LINK? THIS GAME IS MAGNIFICENT BUT I AM A NOVICE SO THE FIGHTS ARE NOT YET
I have steam DCS and i installed it the way it was said and yet it wont load on my dcs to start the Reshader menu ??? dose steam have a different bin folder i dont know about ????
When i boot the game i don't have the menu open at the top of my screen I've tried reinstalling and all the stuff like that. Does anyone else have this issue?
There's definitely a lot you can tinker with. Nothing wrong in staying with the base settings, it still looks great! It's all about personal preference.
I hear conflicting reports. I hear it works for SteamVR while others you have to download an older driver from reshade and it works. forum.dcs.world/topic/312893-reshade-working-with-openxr-opencomposite-and-pimaxxr/
it's not working on VR, how do i activate it to work for VR as well? When i launch and toogle it on and off it's changing only the mirror (monitor) effects, and not that in the HMD
Hey buddy, it does work for SteamVR for sure. If you're using another VR try following this forum. I do not have VR, so I can't experiment. forum.dcs.world/topic/312893-reshade-working-with-openxr-opencomposite-and-pimaxxr/

If you run the process again, installing reshade, after you select your game .exe if it has already been installed when you click next through the menus it will take you to an uninstall feature. Click, yes, for uninstall and then next.
I can't vouch for it personally, and there's been conflicting reports. I've heard it works for Steam VR, for other VRs you have to try an older version. There's a forum here forum.dcs.world/topic/312893-reshade-working-with-openxr-opencomposite-and-pimaxxr/
I can't confirm. I was flying around in Growling's server yesterday with zero issues. I would say it's best to check the server rules, however I did find this forum. forum.dcs.world/topic/254194-reshade-with-multiplayer/
i dot think this reshade stuff is good. Looks like CSI Miami or some Hollywood Movies... If you do recording and doing some crazy movies, then it might be fine, but to be honest, i could not be able to play with these colours. I have problems when i am 30Min in Nevada map LOL, imagine those colours every day... crazy
@@BlackHornetSim Well, the rule may have changed but, I know for a fact that Hoggit and GS wouldn't allow reshade at one point so, I just uninstalled it. It's great for personal recording and SP play, tho.
There's no way for the servers to detect that you're even running reshade, it doesn't interface with the game in a way that the anticheat or the pure client checks can possible check.
Wow, a homophobic and probably Russian bot how surprising. We don’t want people like you here as you are simply a waste of space. Get your homophobia ass out of here.
@@BlackHornetSim yep the vr bit is built into latest reshade , it splits the screen left and right eye , you put on vr helmet , run virtual desktop , get that off steam for like 10 quid , and old games run in vr , e.g crysis , works on most games , you can also use vorpx to do similar , vorpx costs like 30 , i use vorpx and reshade , never actually used reshade to recolour a game , vr it yep , there are some reshade vr vids on youtube
