**Safety notice: blades are extremely sharp. Do not attempt to try this yourself if you have trouble handholding care blades, or are inexperienced with the tools shown in this tutorial. This method, while rudimentary and somewhat “basic”, has allowed me to use this single blade shown in the video, for well past a year, with nearly daily use(2-3hrs/day). Please exercise caution while performing this task, and elect to ask for help from a second person if needed. Happy sewing!**

I watched a few and they weren’t as clear as you were with the direction of the drill and how to move the sharpening tool. Thanks for the demo.

What a brilliant video. Just been looking at the price of replacement 60mm blades in England. About £7 UKP! Will sharpen in instead.

Excellent video. I think I can do this! Question: how long should it take ( how many pushes) of the file to have the blade resharpened?

@stonephotogear408 3 года назад
I would say it depends on how much "tuning" your blade might require. Let the nail file(or metal file) do the work, you shouldn't really have to push. Your intent is not to "remove metal", but simply to help true up the blade. There IS a point where you are best simply to replace the blade with a brand new one. This tutorial is simply a backup plan in case you don't have a spare fresh blade on hand.

@@stonephotogear408 I agree it depends - how much pressure you apply your medium for honing; or if necessary, sharpening. Perhaps using sharpening stones if you have a collection. (demand is high since covid)... even 400 900 1200 grit emery cloth Willingness to happily practice and blank your mind so you can consintrait. Train your sense hearing touch feel etc. Can be scary, work smart with all common safety gear , even have a buddy holding your beer and scorn you for trying. :):)

Great video, thank you! I'm wondering if you could use a whetstone instead of a file?
@rookwood4175

You should be using a wetstone.

I recommend using a 1000 grit sharpening stone instead of a file.

Not recommended to do this if you aren't comfortable with the potential risks involved.

What is the angle of cutting edge of rottary blade used for cutting febrics
@stonephotogear408
@stonephotogear408 3 года назад
No idea, this is simple to help straighten the cutting edge out a bit because it rolls over, becoming dull.
