@@melissazadrozny5167 From my experience, not really. At max level, it has higher ammo and better rate of fire, but slower reload and slightly less damage compared to the SG-09R. Mind you that the slightly less damage seems to make it be less reliable in popping off heads compared to the SG-09R. At least from what I've noticed when using both guns. You're likely better off using the SG-09R over the Sentinel Nine if you're going for headshots.

Red9 is kinda nerfed compared to the Blacktail. There is no reason not to use the Blacktail over the Red9. And I love the Red9, especially in the original.

​@@Khtras I also found the Red9 has more stun power. The first time I used it in hardcore, I was able to stagger enemies easier. That alone makes me like it more.

Yea they really made the game more balanced. In the original the default handgun and the red9 were the best pistols in the game without a doubt when maxed out due to their damage alone (ignoring the Matilda because that can’t be obtained in a new game playthrough), the default pistol’s crit rate and the red9’s insane damage per hit. Now the red9 is less accurate and the default crit rate has been reduced making the other handguns more viable, and not to forget the Matilda is now available in a new game playthrough

@@Hushooit definitely hurts more on regenerator’s parasites but the parasites don’t just die in one shot so LE5 and sniper rifles still work way better in terms of killing them.

@@farzwolf2 Yeah, the only handgun i used in the OG game was the Red9. This time around the SG-09 is ruthless. Every other shot is like a maxed out shotgun blast to the dome.

@@cl86241 Me too. In OG Red9 for HG, Striker for SG and Butterfly for Magmum. Kinda feels sad because other weapon it's just being there but Remake make a fresh air in weapon balance.

25% without focus aim. 35% with focus aim (which you will always have if the laser sight is equipped). With the exclusive upgrade, of course. Critical hit damage multiplier for handguns is x3. Headshots adds an extra 50% damage.

@@NoOneatallworthy and being the worst value per shot handgun in origin, even Punisher can outdamage this gun if used correctly. Never make me proud in professional mode even once where bullets are scarce and enemies are tough as a nail. But shine so bright in standard which is like you are swimming in a bullet pond. Disclaimer: I'm talking about re4(2005) not the remake tho.

@@luckytimothy1330 Any weapon can critical hit on a weakpoint. The laser sight gives you the same critical rate (and stagger) boost as waiting a moment for your crosshairs to focus. It just lets you get that boost instantly while giving you more pinpoint precision. Critical Hits seem to deal x10 damage, regardless of the weapon. So it's kind of easy to figure that point out. On an extra note, you'll find that many speedrunners at least, dislike the x5 Critical Perk of the SG, Sent9 and Blacktail, as instead of stunning an enemy so you can quickly run past, you just triggered a Plaga transformation. Leading to a more dangerous situation that often costs more bullets/herbs/mats/etc.... If you want to get into using critical hits, then you might want to get into stagger as well. Stagger increases based on damage dealt per single shot, thus the Red9, out of all the handguns, has the highest stagger ability out of any handgun. Further, other than penetration from the Punisher (weakest of all the HGs... so much more ammo needed to kill things normally.... unless you line up shots), the higher the damage per shot breaks shields faster than faster, but smaller hits. Again, the laser sight does nothing but make your focus time instant. All HG's however can get the same boost by waiting for their crosshairs to focus.

When your movin the cross hairs don’t focus though and obviously waiten a second for them sometimes when getting crowds aint ideal wanna be able to get that right off the rip no time waiten. It’s my first play through since the OG and I got red9 almost maxed and don’t know if want to spend 95k for exclusive upgrade or max out and do the sentinal 9 and buy scope. Legit been sitten here cpl hours trying to find which is better.

Crit chance is 30-50% and multiplies damage by 10. Not really a gimmick. It turns the base handgun NASTY. The reason it took so many shots in the video is because he wasn’t using the laser. The laser raises your crit chance because it considers you “fully aimed” as if your crosshairs were fully constricted.

@I will argue with anyone about anything I wouldn't consider 20 damage that "nasty", that barely passes for unupgraded magnum damage. Idk if it's bugged for me but that 30-50% doesn't seem about right when ive only gotten 2 head explosions between the span of 3 whole chapters, and yes I always use the laser sight and hit heads. It's just not working. I have a much better time knowing it only takes me 2 to 3 shots per ganado than *hoping* my excess time wasted trying to hit weakspots actually does something for me. Honestly the REAL use for it is getting critical melee's, (and yes, the exclusive upgrade DOES apply to melee so long as you simply have it equipped when you do it). The best combination for it is the illuminados emblem and striker charm + wolf tail accessory, and you can just kick everything to death for the memes

@@windbeneathmywings4884 The strongest shotgun damage in the game is 20.2. How is a handgun that pops 20s every other couple shots NOT nasty? That makes no sense. And critical chance is also affected by adaptive difficulty, meaning if you are doing very well, it lowers your crit. If you're playing on the Weenie Hut Junior difficulties (standard or assisted), your crit rate is also lower. And I know you're full of doo doo about only getting two headshots in 3 chapters. At worst, you'll explode every 3rd or 4th enemy's head. It's not a gamble-- it's super reliable. I have like 160 hours in the game and it's genuinely the best handgun I've used (same with sentinel9). And I'm saying this as a Red9 user in the original game. Based on what you said about having to "waste time" aiming for weakpoints, you probably play on console so aiming is significantly harder. On PC, aiming for headshots is easy asf, so you average way higher damage than the Red9.

Red9 talk is probably people still loving it from the original. That things damage per shot was leagues above the rest in original. I can't tell if they nerfed it, or buffed the other guns in this one.

@@whichDude they nerfed its damage. It was 6.5 in the original, now it’s just barely more powerful than the blacktail at about 4ish.

Without focus aim, the SG-09R has a 5% critical hit chance. With focus aim, it's 7%. The exclusive upgrade brings it up to 25% and 35% respectively. The laser sight makes the gun always in focused aim so with it and the exclusive upgrade, you'll always have a 35% chance to land a x3 damage critical hit on an enemy. That's 6.0 damage, 9.0 if it's a headshot.

@@tacticalochoa1310 For a recent video I shot a ganado 150 times to the head to see how many times it crits (the head pops) with the laser SG with the exclusive upgrade and it was around 5% chance (laser forces focused aim afaik). How did you get your numbers? Is it through testing or is there a method to check the stats ingame?

Yeah, I'd say it's the best handgun in the game if it weren't for the SG-09 and Sentinel 9's Crit odds and the laser sight bypassing the refocus mechanic. The Matilda is basically a submachine gun, it eats a ton of ammo but it shouldn't be an issue with the handgum ammo charms and starter case. Did my first playthrough on hard-core with just the Matilda and the AR. SG-09 and Stingray before I was able to get my mains.

The sentinel is better than the original

Yes it is, but it gets tiring to waiting to close everytime, it always opens again if you move Leon or your aim.

Laser completely remove this and just straight up permanent crit chance increase, that's why base hg and sentinel 9 olis so strong

red-9 has been solid. it 1-3 shots the ganados, dogs, and smaller foes. its a reat weapon. but seeing other suggestions I really want to get the punisher next!

@@syzygy1776 Honestly the way the remake balanced the weapons was great (except the magnums imo). Every gun is great in a way, the first shotgun has the most damage per shot even if it's dps is lower because of the rate of fire. The Springfield is slow but packs better damage than the Stingray. The developers really did an amazing job giving so much diversity to the guns, given that RE4 has a lot of replayability.

No it won't. In RE4R, focusing your reticle will only give you slightly higher crit chance and stagger.

Well if you are only comparing damage yes, but blacktail beats the red9 in every other aspect. Inventory space, reload, fire rate for one bullet

Pistol only run maybe (I would still choose sentinel for the crit bonus)..... Everything else it takes up too much inventory space especially with the stock. Blacktail FTW. It barely out damages it and it takes up a third of room.

Blacktail all day. Damage is only slightly lower than the Red 9, but it has higher rate of fire, faster reload, and less recoil. Because of all that, it has the highest possible DPS of any semi-auto pistol. The Matilda could technically do more under burst fire, but that's extremely impractical.
