When you look back though he kind of sounds like the sort of flaxen haired golden boy from the writhing neckbeard meatpile in one of reddit's stygian caves that 2022 Yahtzee would make fun of.
And currently are holding a lot of awesome IPs they do bugger all with and you can almost hear the other developers clawing at Capcom's doorstep just waiting to snatch up the licenses when their stupidity finally catches up with them and they can't afford rent anymore
So Yahtzee has in his inventory, a .44 Revolver, a switchblade, a DS, a Cadbury Cream Egg, Branston Pickles, a comic?, a bust of Capt Picard, the Tardis, and a purple dildo?? So that's the kind of things Yahtzee carries around with him...
"It's like watching someone beat their fists against a wall, then running off to the hospital before coming back to do it some more. And they used my medical insurance. AND IT'S MY WALL." My thoughts exactly.
A Revolver A Stiletto knife A Nintendo DS A Cambery Creme Egg A jar of Marmite A Comic Book A Captain Picard Bust A Doctor Who Tardis An exquisite Dildo
I was drinking soda wheIn he talked about how you are running away more from the AI controlled player than the enemies because you don't want to be healed from a tiny little scratch with a full healing herb. Lol, now I have to clean my keyboard. I remember taking away Sheva's handgun and giving her a better weapon since she was better with conserving ammo on those weapons than the damn handgun.
Considering he kept coming back to do business no matter how many times you shot or knifed him at previous checkpoints, you'll forgive me if I have my doubts an Island explosion would do the job.

I haven't fully played through RE4 but when I beat the lake monster, I felt like a badass. Although it took a few tries because of the monster's constant jumping into my boat.
I remember back then when I saw the game not single alarm in my head was screaming this game is racist. To this day not a single thing has changed. Yeah I don’t detect a hint of racism from this game. I do however detect a ton of shit this game is.
I played the game after watching this review and I found all the issues he had with the partner AI to be true. But about halfway through the game I realized you can change her tactics from support to attack. On support she stays by your side, only uses her pistol, wastes healing items, and won't use her other weapons. On attack she will run off to kill things, use her bigger weapons when appropriate, and is more frugal with healing items... Basically solving all her problems
"What are ya buyin'?" "What are ya sellin'?" "Heh heh heh heh, thank you." "Got some rare things on sale, stranger." "Come back any time." Best dialogue in any capcom game to date.
In answer to the whole racism thing I will paraphrase a quote from someone much smarter than me "Do not be so quick to attribute to malice what can just as easily be attributed to stupidity or laziness."
I don't get it... why do people think this game is racist? News flash kids! Africa's population is mostly composed of black people, and the fact that some are still living in a tribal old fashioned way is not racist. And African chucking spears at you is as racist as japanese people coming at you with a katana. -_-
Before this game came out i would have agreed about the not racist thing, and before we continue... im black. I didn't understand the hate... at first. Then half way through the game, 9 foot tall African tribesmen "spear chuckers" who jump 90 feet attack you like the super offspring of master chief and shaq... THAT SHITS FUCKING RACIST!
the problem is that the survival horror mechanics, the games aesthetics were all poorly done and this made the flaws in the game become more highlighted and some what exaggerated. I mean in res evil 4 the mostly poor spanish population attacked you with strategy and good pacing and it felt like survival horror not burly white dude running around gunning others. in this game the pacing is off and enemy a.i just throw themselves at you inviting bullets.
i13m By definition a game can't be 'racist', but a person (such as yourself) can be an overtly sensitive person with a persecution complex who sees racism in everything. The spear chucking shit was in line with RE's realistic portrayal of people. Along with midget Napoleon who runs a castle in Europe and that one guy in RE6 who runs the world. You know, realistic portrayals. You're the reason why no games take place in Africa and/or can never feature black's unless they explicitly talk about what a success story they are and how they are great assets to their community and how they are rising above oppression to the point of comedy. It's not as if RE has historically featured racist caricatures of Blacks while portrayed every other race realistically and in high regards. So I don't get how all of a sudden you can jump to ''THEY BE RACIST Y'ALL'' on a game in the series.
I strongly agree with his description for the inventory systems. In RE4 an egg indeed took the space of an egg, and your armor was equiped somewhere outside the case. But in RE5 eggs could quickly fill your inventory if it wasn't already filled by the 2 armors and the guns and ammo that you need to carry around. =p RE4 has probably had the best inventory in the whole fanchise.
i replayed this recently… yeah you can’t give sheva anything but the gun you want her to use. i let her have the health items though, didn’t have to care abt my health ever, that was nice
Now, I'm split with this, on one hand, I love RE4, 5 and 6, with all my heart, as a devoted fan of the series, I shouldn't be laughing my ass off, it would go against everything I've defended to this day, on the other, I love Zero Punctuation, and all his reviews, I love this game, but yes, a majority of what ZP said was true, especially the stupid inventory and the armor bit.
In the game there were notes at those river tribes. They were tourist traps charging obscene amounts of money to trick silly foreigners. They the virus hit and made them go all full tribal. So like if you look hard enough the game was trying to show them as savy opportunists, not backwards tribes or something. That though wasn't as fun to bring up. People love controversy.
My personal worst case of Sheva is when I am losing a lot of health and Sheva has crap tons of them and I have a red herb. So I plan to combine the red herb with the green herb I should've found somewhere but Sheva ALWAYS heal me with a green herb she found somewhere. FUCKING IDIOT I'd say.
Frankly a large majority of the boss battles could have been averted had the protagonists remembered they have guns in their hands and shoot the bastards before they genetically mutate themselves into some nonsensical bullshit pile of dragon vomit.
I'm actually GLAD that Ashley shouts "LEON!" when she's in trouble: when she does I know that I need to help her. It's better than what most escort mission NPCs do when they're in trouble: try to fend to themselves and end up dying, WITHOUT asking me for help.
I am so sorry man. I killed the merchant. He's dead. I'm the reason he is gone. My condolences to the Merchant's family. Winning Resident Evil 5 won't bring him back.
The best way i can see having a support NPC have access to healing items (and being able to use them on the player character) is to have a NOT NOW button that makes them back off unless your under a certain percentage of health that the player can set.
I know this is old news but with hardly 150 mill in the bank (which sounds like a lot until you realize rockstar spent 200 mill on marketing alone for gtav) I really have my doubts crapcom has the cash for 2 more res evil games let alone just 1.
***** Resident evil 6 showed me that resident evil 5 wasn't such a bad game after all. Aside from Leon's campaign that game was a SHITTY gears of war clone.
I don't understand why people are getting hung up on the racist bit when Yahtzee himself said the game was not racist! He made a very good point that any racist undertones in the game were not racist because they had no malicious intent to them. Which means he is not accusing the game of being racist.
He's accusing Capcom of making a moronic design choice by throwing in an African tribe setpiece with little justification or explanation. It is exactly a moronic design choice by a developer that one would expect something like that from. It is racist if it is fueled by hate, but he states that isn't the case. It was an ill-advised design choice in a series that has made its living largely off if ill-advised design choices.
@@Marcus_Aurelius42 "with little justification or explanation" He mustn't have played the game properly because throughout the level you can find journals belonging to one of the tribesman that say the weapons and outfits were ceremonial and they didn't normally wear them, and only after the parasites infected them did they start using them.
also minor point, but they kinda explained the Tribal warrior thing, with it being really unusual that the tribe were wearing the clothes of their ancestors and basically went insane according to a Note you found, still rather contrived but they sort of explained it.. kinda
Capcom wasn't being intentionally racist. I mean, this is a Japanese gaming company that has been the laughing stock of gaming and the disappointment of fans next to Square Enix. It's still pretty racist and it runs of stereotype, but it's mostly harmless, IMO. It's not really based on hatred, just stupidity and it comes off as a joke rather than an insult. I'm still wondering how people took it seriously after actually playing it, that is, if they even played it at all considering how over sensitive a bunch of people are these days.
Rodney 2x4 They weren't being racist at all. To say that RE5 is racist for the village parts is like saying there aren't any rural villages in africa where people throw spears, but there are. It would only be racist if the majority of enemies in RE5 were black tribesmen throwing spears.
+Surprised Robot why are you typing up a paragraph to explain what Yahtzee already explained in one sentence? "Capcom employees are not bad people, just stupid."
Am I the only one that didn't hate Sheva? I don't love her but I didn't hate her. At times she could be annoying but I never had a horrible experience that some had with her AI.
If you understand how her AI works, she becomes much more manageable. - She rarely gets headshots but she's spot-on with body shots - Therefore don't give her handguns cause she burns through the ammo. Don't give her a shotgun cause she has no concept of range. - Give her a rifle - she'll one-shot everyone, and she'll use the ammo efficiently. - Give her a machine gun and she'll cover you effectively, but won't burn through the ammo (it's quite common). - DO NOT, obviously, give her a magnum. - Sometimes she'll try to run ahead. make sure to use the call button and she'll stay with you. - give her green herbs and red herbs, she'll heal you if necessary with the greens, and they're quite common. She doesn't know how to combine, and reds can't be used by themselves, so she won't waste them (they are rare). ETC. If you get to know the AI, you can use it to your advantage
I know a way to make your partner use something other than their pistol: when you hold the "partner command" button, a small menu with 2 options opens. These 2 options are "Attack" and "Cover" In "Cover" mode, your partner will use their side-arm acting on defense. In "Attack" mode, they'll use the best weapon they have on hand and act on offense. It you can choose which mode you want them use by holding the "partner command" button and selecting with the D-pad.
Descendants of The Khoikhoi have existed in Southern Africa since 5th century BCE. Some of them still adhere to their ancient way of life. Which involves hunting wildlife with bow & Spear and yes they live in mudhuts still. Some groups do still live very primitively even in places like Papua New Guinea present day. Not everyone wants to adopt western civilization and culture and all the bullshit that comes with it. It's not racist to say that something is the way it is or has been the way it was. They live in a better way and are one with nature and the earth ............. We are disconnected ...... technology doesn't make a race civilized. We simply have access to something they don't. Everything is circumstantial.
@@HadBabits You didn't play the game. In the village levels you can find journals mentioning how the outfits and weapons were ceremonial and that the natives only started wearing them when the parasites infected them.
@@MagcargoMan I've played some, though it has been ages so I'll concede I've practically not played it. Anyhoo, that is actually interesting in a ludo-narritive respect; or in less wanky jargon, how we experience games and their stories. Does it invalidate one's criticism, or experience, of a game if the developer's essentially left a post-it somewhere with context contradicting it? Does that context actually inform the design of the environment and narrative or was it something thought of after the fact? And does that even matter? None of this has anything to do with RE5 specifically btw. You obviously have much more first hand experience with the game and arguing about it would be a waste of both of our time. But I am a game dev in my spare time and I find these things interesting :)
Resident evil 4 was amazing this game while not amazing was really good but they got kind of stupid with the inventory system but Jesus Christ I think they could of made Chris a little smaller lol and the boulder at the end?.........I call steroids XD
See the Tribal people bit, I find it funny that they actually did try and fix that, by way of a little VERY missable note, explaining that, in general the tribe usually DIDN'T wear their tribal stuff, except on special occasions and the plagas was causing them to regress into doing so... somehow.
they updated it now so she only heals you when your health is down really low and don't give her guns just Armour and health spray. because she keeps picking up pistol ammo and handing it to you even if you have one on you.
I don't see racism in this game. as an African who has lived on this continent for 30 years, I thought the odd shit out on the title was all the mixed race folks between the locals. this is not south America. the only people who seemed to be offended by this game was the western world. because this is an Asian made game, it gets attacked from all sides. apologies for it not being a Bethesda title. apologies for there being no game breaking glitches or dead servers after 1 year. when the world sees through racist eyes, everything will seem racist. this was 2011, it's now 2020 and look exactly how crap the world has become because of society needing enemies to throw milkshakes at.
I agree with Yahtzee about the Resi series. All the games up until Resi 4 sucked ass. They weren't scary, they controlled like a sack of molasses mixed with shit, the dialogue was horrible and cheesy while still being played straight, they were just all around bad games. I don't get why everyone bangs on about why they were so good.
I had fun with the remake of the first one, zero and Resi 2 :D I feelt like this were some kind of scary puzzle games and I like puzzle games for some reason. That said, Resident Evil 4 is my most played Game ever and it is the Game I enjoyed the most with Xenoblade Chronicles as a gamer
ok i can take poor controls and cheesy dialogue, but re2 was scary as fuck. not to mention you always had the possibility to be stuck forever if you didn't conserve your ammo properly (although I ended up with well over 100 handgun bullets by the end of the game), so that itself is kinda scary. and the stupid ink saving system was retarded.
The poor controls add to the fear of the classic RE games, maybe they're not scary now but they were terrifying for their time. Also no, if you SERIOUSLY believe that REmake isn't scary then wow, you're just mad.
Two improvements I was glad to see six maybe over 5; the partner no longer uses up inventory space and they aren't grabby...that kept pissing me off in 5, I am trying to plan out grabbing ammo from crates I broke in certain orders because I have to manually reload the guns to free up that space to grab the next needed ammo, using her inventory to help with that but then she runs around and grabs up everything in sight screwing up being able to optimize the ammo and healing items.
lobster123burger well, a small majority of African people still live in such primitive ways. kind of like the amish, but even more traditional.......somehow.
+Rectus Rectumius Strictly speaking, a majority has nothing to do with your proffered 50% figure and can still be meaningfully referenced in a plurality system or even a binary one with agnostic or unknown factors. Also, the use of the term small implies relativity and subjective assessment. His assertions are internally and logically consistent, even if his choice of rhetoric seems to offend your apparently confined semantical aesthetics. It would have been nice if clarification had been made and evidence was provided to bolster claims, but that's tangential to your direct questions to which I have indirectly answered.
The C Majority doesn’t mean larger than half necessarily, I was wrong, but what it does have to mean is a number greater than all others, thus relative to none should it even seem “small”. Within the African natives, only if the largest number of people are primitive, can they be called a majority, and only if you compare them to the rest of Africa would they seem small, but why would you compare like that?
It's boring, poorly-designed, dreary (they didn't even create a game with a carefully balanced palette, they just slapped on a filter to mute the colors), tons of badly reused ideas from the previous game, almost every enemy is a reason of an RE4 enemy, and it has a less memorable OST... awful. I'd rather play RE6 again.
if I'm not mistaken the partner AI have two different "modes" don't remember what they are called something among the line of "Aggressive" and "Defensive" if they are in Aggressive mode they will use the best weapon they have while they are in Defensive mode they will use the Pistol (or the weakest weapon they have).
Modern Africa isn't really like that. The majority of people live in cities and work in factories. It would be like showing America in the old west, or Europe during the industrial revolution and claiming that's how it is now
I think it’s mentioned that they aren’t normally like that, but the Plaga caused them to regress somewhat. It’s similar to the Cult or Military Plaga how it forms them into groups and such. I guess the best way of describing is imagine if a western reenactment thing was taken over and all of them started acting like cowboys and such. The Plaga don’t really do personal lives and tend to warp or distort whatever cultures they infect.
In all fairness to the warpaint thing, in one of the files you read in the game you read how everyone in the village was acting unusual and hanging around in ceremonial warpaint.
Why yes, perpetuating stereotypes IS racist. And guess what, the spearchucking mudhut thing IS a stereotype that is no longer true. So yeah, that is pretty ignorant and racist on Capcom's part. Probably not intentionally malevolent though. It's probably more "the audience will never believe this is Africa without war-paint covered tribal people. Let's throw them in to set the scene". So yeah, Capcom isn't just insulting Africans, they're insulting the audience too.
Chucking spears is awesome! Especially if I throw it from my mud hut next to lake it's built near and stabs a fish. If it's bad ass can it still be racist?
So people like the Surma don't exist? There are still tribes in Africa. Of course there are also cities and modern towns but there's still many tribal groups too. Or are you saying they don't exist at all? Seems like your guilty of trying to erase the existence of many ethnic groups. Also, it's very well worth noting that in the village level of the game, you can find a journal written by one of the villagers that says that those outfits and weapons were ceremonial, and that they didn't wear them normally; only after being infected by the Las Plagas parasite did they start to.
And again. Old review for old game but I watch it over again every year or so because it just makes me laugh. This review just points out the funny terrible things in the game I was willing to overlook.
