Resident Evil 6 Review - Is The Hate Justified?

Resident Evil 6 released in October 2012 to mediocre critical reception and fan backlash. When I played it on release I couldn’t understand the hate and it went into my top 3…. As the years rolled on I soured on the game, to the point where I regard it (like so many fans) as the worst entry in the mainline series. But is that justified? Was I right to turn against it?
Its been 9 years since I last played it and in this review i’m going to break down what works, what doesn’t and ultimately, come to a conclusion on how I view this game; is it really in my top 3? Is it a trash fire or is it somewhere in between?
If you enjoyed the video, put a like on it and comment your thoughts on the game - I love hearing from you all and I try to respond to everyone on my channel.
Don’t forget to subscribe for more Resident Evil content in the future.
Up next on the channel is Resident Evil 7 followed by REVillage which I’ll aim to have out a few weeks after the release of the game (so we can all discuss it with spoilers!)
Take care

RE6 did one thing that i wish every future RE would implement: The option to exchange a crosshair reticle for a nice fuctioning laser sight. So much more immersive than a huge white dot on the screen.

It's even more immersive if you turn off the beam and keep just the dot. You can do that by turning HUD while aiming in crosshair mode. That's how I play it.
@Jack_80

it's hard for me to get immersed with the ridiculously silly enemy designs. those butterfly zombies with a zombie torso hanging upside down from it, the spider zombies with a zombie torso coming out the top. grasshopper zombies, bee zombies, and other ridiculous looking zombies. then you got simmons who is basically a t-1000 zombie that turns into numerous silly things, the t-rex zombie being the most ridiculous. i actually like the gameplay in 6 and the story isn't bad, those silly enemy designs are what ruined it for me.
@LogicAndCompassion

@@Jack_80 Totally agree. It was like capcom just handed the design team a box of playdough and said "Get to workin". Lol. But the movement and combat felt spectacular. It felt realistic to dive backwards away from an infectious brain hungry zombie. You don't want to be anywhere near that thing. And it made for some super cinematic moments.

I was also told to play the order Chris > Jake > Leon, which I did. I think this made it a lot better in terms of both story and gameplay, and added a sense of gradual escalation to both. For one Chris's campaign tells you almost nothing about the overarching story other than that Jake is Wesker's son, but the other campaigns reveal more and more, so it added a sense of mysteries slowly being uncovered to the story. That'd be lost if I played Leon's first and knew right off the bat playing Chris that Simmons was behind everything or that the Ada you chase after is a different person.

After 2 failed attempts at trying to play this over the years I finally did and I must say I'm glad. For me the opening hour of Leon's campaign was what was killing it for me. I think they used the worst possible way to introduce you to the game as it's a tedious slog having one walking segment after another, but when you hit the church it's pretty much non stop. Playing multiple scenarios is preferable than backtracking for hours in the same location just to unlock 1 friggin door. Yes there was crossover, but you did different things and had a different story. What you call too long, i call replayability. Each scenario is short enough on its own and is its own s3lf contained story. You dont have to play it all in one sitting. The skillsets absolutely made a difference, especially the increased ammo pick up. And the fact that you cant have everything just makes each playthrough somewhat unique. If this wasnt titled Resident Evil, there would have been far fewer complaints. And yes, it was mainly a horror action title and not the usual survival horror genre. But that doesnt make it bad. You cannot have a globe spanning story with mutants and zombies, and expect it to be survival horror. The initial stories in the series, before the world and characters knew what was going on, sure, they'd be out of their depths and fight to escape the tight confines of their setting. But after years of fighting and gathering intel, theyre gonna be certified, better equipped badasses with government backing, hence an action title.

Wouldn't it make sense for the same heroes that we had in the old games be numb to the horror aspect of their job? If they were truly scared they would choose a different career path. They wouldn't keep carrying on with what they do for a living if they were actually affected. With that line of thinking, wouldn't a more action oriented campaign/ gameplay make sense? The only way you can get survival horror again would be to have a new character who isn't associated with any of the original games

It's all about threat and personal stakes, even someone who's hardened to B.O.Ws and world ending disaster;you could make the threat to someone they care about or just put them in a bad situation I.e nursing an injury or low on resource. The scares come from the player though, the characters never seem to react in a way to show they are terrified or they are damaged from the experience

To be fair, it was a good strategy. It made the game memorable and slightly funny. I remember the first time I saw him in the T-rex form and I was both horrified (because I knew it would be annoying to fight) and extremely amused. "He turned into a dinosaur, what the fuck?" Followed by me getting my ass destroyed by a flying car Simmons threw at me while I was too distracted with laughter. With a friend, it's one of the most fun games in the franchise, but I will admit the story was a little lack luster.

I have never understood the hate. 6 had the SAME amount of action as 4 did, was actually a Resident Evil game (as opposed to a leftover from the developement of DMC) and the controls/shooting were actually enjoyable, as opposed to RE4. RE6 was born from the raving reviews following the release of 4, and yet, when 6 was released, people suddenly decided that they don't like action in an RE game. IMO, 4 should never, ever have been released, all the problems could have been avoided. And as for cheese and campiness: baby Napoleon, Ashley and moving suits of armor were fine, but dinosaur BOW is not? FFS

RE2 and 6 are my favorites. I enjoyed 6. There were some over the top moments, and it was more actiony than some of the originals, but it felt like a natural evolution of the story. If there is a worldwide outbreak, how can you expect it to always take place in a creepy house? Its chaos, hence more action and set pieces. Sherry and Jake were awesome, Helena had emotional content, and Piers was just as badass as Chris. My main issue was Simmons having more forms than Frieza.

The exact answer for haters. That's why capcom shifted again to a creepy house with new characters. Sometimes people always want what they want but missing the context. 11:00 - this. exactly this. this is why I find Resident Evil 5 to be forgettable because it tried to balance horror and action but failed to do anything good. I just finished it today and I had LOTS of problems with the game. The worst of which, all gimmicks in RE5 are poor retreads of RE4. From the set-pieces, to enemy design. There's nothing memorable about that game - except the Wesker cutscenes. Now going into Resi 6 and the controls feel much much better. But those QTEs though.

There's actually a subtle bit of genius to the campaigns in RE6. Leon's campaign resembles the classic "survival horror" style of 1,2, and CV, Chris continues in the Actionized Sequel trend of 4&5, and Jake's campaign is very reminiscent of RE3. They're as long as they are because each campaign is, essentially, it's own game attempting to emulate the style of older entries in the series while also trying to wrap up the stories of the characters from the older games. I strongly suspect that RE6 was originally planned to be the last mainline entry in the series, and that the team wanted to send the series off with a bang.

For me you started as these people who were new to this. To me each game you saw the same people grow and get better. Same can be said with the enemies. It's foolish to think it can't get this bad. Now before I go on. People say Jake story is weird having someone you don't have relationships towards. And once you find out that same person was murdered by someone you also don't know. It's a weird feeling. I can Definitely say that's a real emotion. You hate the person you birthed you. But for whatever reason you also hate you were never had a chance to see the man. Never had the chance to do anything like ask why the FUCK were you like that. It's a sort of closure a person would want. But it's not crazy. Jake had a more extreme reaction then I would. Anyways back to the main topic. I feel like when RE 6 came out imo I felt like what can be worst then 5. We killed wesker who killed the head of umbrella. I have mixed feelings about 6. It was sensory overload. I enjoyed Leon’s story arc, which is ironic- since I didn’t even like him in RE4. But the other’s were just meh. Gameplay wise though, my favorite. By far. And while I wasn’t having the time of my life playing through Jake’s campaign, I loved his melee centric play style. Going one-on-one with that Goliath BOW, was fucking hype. If they had just pulled back, even a bit, the game would have been much better off. I find myself wanting to play it, because it feels so good to play- but I don’t want to sit through the spectacle.

RE5 is my least favorite by far. The companion AI was a joke. Shiva would burn through so much ammo that I had to carry all of it and feed it to her as needed. Had I not done that, I would be out of ammo in about 1 minute. There was no tension and the boss fights were not fun. And the final fight with Wesker was a joke. RE 4 is the pinnacle of this franchise for me. RE 6 was a major departure for sure, but at least the AI didn't screw you over at every turn.

There tends to be two sides on RE6 Some adore it and some despise it. But there's some who are in the middle which I'm in. A guy named Nerell really hit home one the real issues with the game because I feel like one side doesn't talk enough about the bad of the game (the side that adores it) and one side doesn't talk about what's good in the game (the side that hates it). Both sides are right most of the time but they tend to not often be enough in the middle. RE6 is one of the most fun games I've played, and also at times one of the worst games I've played. There's many reasons as to why this game is such a mess, tight deadlines, a inexperienced director and not enough focus (with more). They wanted horror so they gave us Leon's Campaign. They wanted the Cod and Gears action crowd and gave us Chris's Campaign. They wanted a bit of both action and horror with a nemesis like enemy so they gave us Jake's Campaign. But all 3 of these don't nail any of these goals and fail at most of what they do besides maybe Chris. But even Chris's Campaign has a lot of terrible parts too. Where the game does shine is combat with an actually well-made combat system with a lot of depth secretly there. There's advanced tech that makes the gameplay fun. But the issue is the campaigns have a lot of bad sections, which doesn't let combat shine much. most of it is slow boring sections that just aren't fun. Mercanaries show the combat off most at it's best. But there's a problem. The game doesn't teach you how to play. All it does it teach u how to heal and shoot in the tutorial and that's it. They thought showing you a quick time event and action set piece would be better than teaching the player how the controls or upgrades work because it was cooler to have an bombastic action scene. The worst part is it's the same action scene scene you'll see in Leon's Campaign 7 hours later. The fun gameplay that's there gets ruined by the poor campaigns and the games terrible explanation on the games mechanics. People say it's the worst RE. It's definitely not. There's definitely worse RE games but, this is the worst mainline RE game in the numbered series (1-8). It's not a completely terrible game and has its good moments, but for every good thing there's another 3 bad things. I describe it as a fun mess. But most of the fun is from Mercanaries and stupidity of the story. It's a fun time with a friend but if you sat down to only play the campaigns by yourself it's a long tedious boring mess. There's a lot more to say but I've already said so much so gonna end it here. Good review it was a nice watch.

@@SSJdavey I didn't even know you replied to this comment, I completely forgot about this comment until now, as I was literally binging all of your old RE reviews (RU-vid's recommending me you a lot suddenly lol). Thanks for the compliment on the comment, reading it again though made me scream inside because of some grammatical errors so I ended up fixing them a bit lmao. For a bit of extra commentary on the game I do think Re6 still is a very flawed game, I really want to love it more than I do right now, theres so much I wish I could love about it, but god some of the levels, enemies, set pieces and just game design drives me outright bonkers with its execution. I feel like some enemies could be cut or reworked. Like the sniper enemies... being stunlocked trying to fight when you're low on ammo and health breaks me emotionally. Levels could be trimmed massively or even scenarios cut. I really dislike Chris's section where you have to save civilians from crawling BOWs in narrow cramped rooms. I feel like pacing wise, cutting that would've been to the games benefit, and I can list a lot of sections like that if I wanted. I don't really say this casually. I put a lot more time into Re6 than the average player, over 100 hours worth. I practiced the games combat quite a bit too for some reason, I have over 1k hours in the Devil May Cry series alone as a point of reference so I do love mechanical depth... But I think Re6 has too much of it for how the game actively uses it. I'd argue at times the game goes against its combat system. Just more of my personal feelings on Re6. I know people who outright hate it and I don't blame them. At times I do too when I play it. But it keeps drawing me back and I'm so tempted to buy it on Steam, making it the 4th time I would've bought the game. Theres so much about this game I dislike... So much I would outright actively point out how it's poorly designed... But it draws me back in.

@CravenMariGold 1K hours on DMC series is an awesome achievement, I'm hoping that I'll get an opportunity to review them all before the end of the year but we'll see how things go... Like you've said it's the pacing of re6 that really drags it down, having to maintain a breakneck pace at all costs hurts the game so much and when coupled with scenarios that repeat across the 3 main storys, i can't help but feel that they missed the mark with this one
@cravenmarigold7750
@cravenmarigold7750 Год назад
@@SSJdavey pacing in a game is such a important thing, Re6 often makes feel exhausted halfway through a single campaign, let alone 4 of them. I haven't played the Re4 remake yet, but I kinda get the impression it's what Re6 could've been if it was much more focused and some elements of combat were stripped back. Re6 has a lot of combat depth, but sometimes too much depth can be to a games detriment. Re4 2023 seems to focus much more on just aiming, shooting, and melee without extra features like the in depth dodge and rolling system, quick shots, stamina management and so on. It focus on pure shooting and melee finishers, while keeping the movement mobile enough. Which is a great thing because its so easy to desgin an action system around a simple moveset. Leon's moveset is more complicated than the original Re4, but not to Re6's extent. Because it's much more simple than Re6, the enemies can be much more tightly desgined around Leon's moveset and options while being simple, but challenging. Hell even og Re4 did that. You couldn't move and shoot but the enemies were desgined in a way to account for that while posing a threat. Enemies would Bob and weave if you aim for their head, they will sprint at you for a moment but quickly stop to let you get a chance to react. If enemies were about to toss something they'd pause and slowly raise their weapon and even shout before they toss an Axe or TnT. And thats just the villagers, not even the other enemy types. I think often simple gameplay can breed the most polished and in depth combat when done right, but when your character has so many tools, it gets harder to desgin every enemy to account for them like in Re6. So while Re6 may be on the surface level be more "deep" and mechanically dense, that's not always a good thing. It can still be fun, but I think how Re4 be it the original or the 2023 reimagining, will always provide a more consistent, refined experience. Which I prefer personally. I love Re6's quick shot system, I love its dodge mechanics, its counters, it's melees, but I know its also why the games combat can be such a mess often.

I don't mind action RE, or general off-genre spin-offs. RE6 would have been better as a non-numbered side dish as well. I mean the ideas make sense. They wanted a virus for BOW and the games depict how they get better and better at controlling the virus and the people infected to actually use them as soldiers, so spin-offs are perfect to depict this chaos. I don’t see how Leon’s campaign is the most liked. Holy shit it’s soo boring. The zombies don’t even react properly to being shot. It’s like they have no stagger when being shot. Even the shotgun feels weak because of this. It’s soo unsatisfying fighting 15 zombies at a time that don’t feel good to shoot at and even if you kill then there seems to be an Infinite source of zombies. Killing zombies that respawn as soon as they die is no fun, and shooting them is no fun already. God is the catacombs section so boring. Then 70% of his campaign is a boss fight of a guy that just won’t die. And not only that, you can LITERALLY just run past 60% of the encounters. This applies to the whole game but Leon’s is where this is the most do able. Knowing you can just run past zombies and skip everything, and knowing that zombies might be infinitely respawning only makes you want to just run past shit anyways. The upgrade system is ass too. hai, year late here. I disagree. She definately adds something. However, capcom didn't really push that addition point hard enough. She is in a very comparable situation as Jake. Dad turned into an evil monster that destroyed many lives, which resulted in them being both essential to overcoming the virus and granting them skills above normal humans. this description counts for both. Yet while Sherry had years to process and overcome the shadow her father has put over her, Jake just only now is starting to do so. Sherry is effectively working the mentor role here, but not for skill... she is being a mentor on personal growth and outgrowing your parent's shadow. And no other character in the RE franchise can really do it on this subject, besides her. She has first hand experience in the struggles that Jake gets put through in this game. Now you can hold the arguement that this mentor role didn't get pushed enough, which I would agree with. You also could hold the question as to why in the ever loving hell they decided it makes sense to suddenly give Wesker a son. But Sherry most definately is key to this story.

I have played all main entries in the series (including remakes) except for this one, now I'm forcing myself to play it, just finished Leon's campaign an omg, is abysmal, the game forgets about everything that made re4 an 5 so addictive and replaced it with dumb shooting where it actually rewards you for playing bad, zombies (as slow as they are portrayed here) are atrocious as enemies on a game so heavily focused on action, and to make thing worse, when you start getting some enjoyment of it, it constantly interrumps you with cutscene after cutscene! Both chapter 4 an 5 are like 30% gameplay 70% cutscenes, and while in combat, every time an enemy grabs you omg is 10 minutes of qtes or when you get knocked down, is like 30 seconds to get up! This game has no pacing, explosion after explosion, no time to actually enjoy shooting mechanics, almost everything in the game takes place on corridors... the only redeemable about this game are the graphics which are pretty darn good even on today's standards and a plus on xbox one and ps4 for the rock solid 60 fps

I bought a Xbox 360 just to play Resident Evil 6 on December 08, 2012. Having played RE 04 on PS2 and RE: Revelations on 3DS earlier that year + my school being closed in the winter of December my hype for this game was fever pitch and my 11 year old brain loved every second of it despite being significantly worse than RE 04. Those 576p CGI cutscenes, the bombastic Michael Bay action set pieces and overly convoluted plot that has 04 interlocking separately playable campaigns. Character design has always been a strong suite of Capcom and there are no complaints there. Despite failing the Survival Horror Fans, the COD-esque Action Blockbuster genuinely does a lot of the action elements right. The dodging, rolling and even strafing were all elements that elevated the sense of momentum this "Dramatic Horror" game tried to capture. Even though I love the 02 Revelation Games, RE:2 and RE:3 remakes as they did the balancing act really well between action and survival horror aspects ranging from inventory management to deliberate slow paced controls, a lot of the elements that lends fluidity to RE:6 should have been adopted by other action games like Gears or The Division. I even liked the QTEs which were so effing flashy for no reason at all.

I'd say for potential improvements of the game, 1. there needs to be a skill system that is actually rewarding 2. allow player to equip more than just three skills. Maybe allow players to earn new slots for a skill set 3. good rewards for the badass moves that can be pulled off in the game that currently are not rewarded (i.e. give the player something he needs from the next enemy he kills after he performs a certain amount of clean dodges) 4. have a better crowd system in the game (i.e. have the enemies be pushed back when when in an animation with an enemy like in resident evil 4), 5. not let the enemies damage the player when in an animation 6. Give the player a brief moment of invincibility after an animation so that cheap hits are avoided 7. Not have the camera move away to show something when in the middle of combat 8. Allow players to skip ALL kinds of cutscenes like in resident evil 4 9. When coming across a crossover section, show the potential players with whom there can be a crossover with and allow players to maybe adjust their settings for the potential player they may crossover with. Maybe even send a notification to the potential player that that there is an interest to crossover with their campaign. As it stands, crossovers are near impossible and that is a real shame 10. make it easier to shoot projectiles off the air like in resident evil 4 11. Add a proper way to teach the player about the mechanics 12. Have the A.I. partner ACTUALLY follow commands that are given and prioritize those commands 13. If a player joins another player's campaign, let that actually count as a legitimate playthrough 14. Reduce the insane recoil in the game 15. Buff the two aiming radicals so that the long range shooting is more feasible (seriously needed for Chris in Chris's campaign) 16. Show cutscenes that explain have the mechanics of the vehicle works (desperately needed for Chris's car chase sequence) 17. Be more clear about what to do during vehicle segments (very much need for Jake's snowmobile section) 18. Be more challenging during Ada's helicopter segment 19. Fix the broken helicopter boss fights in Chris's campaign 20. Fix the turret guns in the game 21. Add an option to skip the walking segments 22. Allow players to have the option to stop the game from artificially limiting the player's options (i.e. not letting players dash during some segment for BS reasons) or forcing certain actions out of players (i.e. making the character aim after opening certain doors) 23. Allow the player to earn extra inventory slots 24. Allow the player to turn off the ammunition pick up for certain weapons 25. Allow the player to earn more skill sets 26. Tie certain skill sets to certain weapons so that when that certain weapon is equipped, that skill set is also automatically equipped (someone else had this idea so I basically stole it lol)

I highly agree with this review. Resident Evil 6 is odd game for me, in one hand i really like it and another i think it falls flat in so many areas. Gameplay overall in this game is the best thing and worst thing for me if that makes any sense. It has the most dynamic and fast paced gameplay compared to previous games. You can walk and shoot at the same time and you can slide and perform dive roll and etc which are the definitely the highlights for me especially the melee moves, but at same time, i found the controls kinda off where you can spin around and run up to wall when controlling the character. Also the cover system in this game is pretty awkward especially in Chris's and Jake's campaigns were you spend most of the gunfights in cover. As for the story itself i find it to be very bloated mess despite some great moments and character interactions in the series. I agree that Leon's campaign feels the most Resident Evil story from the rest of the other campaigns. Chris and Jake's campaigns had some great ideas but fell flat in execution. For Chris's campaign, i felt was most melodramatic of them all. I get the idea that it was about Chris falling from his grace after tragedy and has to find way back on his feet which is great idea on paper but kinda fell short in execution. I didn't feel much for the deaths of his men, mainly because they hardly have any personalities or reason for me to care about them. Often, it feels like cheap shock value and forced drama for Chris to lose his shit and becoming unhinged. And i agree that Chris and Piers dynamic feels off when they spent majority of the story arguing only trying to resolve it during finale. Jake and Sherry on the other hand, probably has the best dynamic in the entire game but i wasn't much fan of Jake Muller. He had a lot of potential but he keeps constantly contradicting himself and his character development feels inconsistent. At first he is all "I don't want to be turned like my father" but then towards end of his campaign he goes with the name "Jake Wesker". As for Ada's campaign, i feel its the weakest of the bunch. Despite revelation of the Ada clone, i felt her story was the most uninteresting of the bunch. After all that said, is RE6 a bad game? No, i would say its even good game but its overly ambitious and bloated product, trying to add too many elements and thinking they could handle it all and it shows. Despite having over 600 people working on it.

RE6 is a fascinating game. It was arguably the third RE “action” title and fans were generally disappointed after liking the previous two entries. I love it though. RE6 is not a survival-horror game but that’s okay. I understand fans have expectations and are disappointed when they’re not met. I can’t remember what my expectations were for RE6 but it’s a good time nonetheless. The combat is frantic, dynamic and satisfying. The story is bonkers and I just ignore it for the most part. The game looks gorgeous too, even now. And the co-op! I have good memories playing with friends. I’m not trying to be a contrarian but I enjoy RE6 much more than 7, and a little bit more than Village. First time viewer here. This is a fun and thorough critique. Liked, subbed and Big Ups!

Playing multiple scenarios is preferable than backtracking for hours in the same location just to unlock 1 friggin door. Yes there was crossover, but you did different things and had a different story. What you call too long, i call replayability. Each scenario is short enough on its own and is its own self contained story.

One massive flaw. They took the time to add 4 outfits per character... but not the time to allow them in campaign 🤣 I have never been more disappointed in Capcom. That's dropping the ball harder than re3 remake.. and alls it would take is a simple patch. Unforgivable. I haven't seen a dumber decision in like 25 years. The replayability would be 10 fold with new outfits to change up something on further playthroughs. Nope only in mercenaries 😂 I hear switch you can but I guess F ps5, pc and xbox.

Great video! RE6 is the epitome of "too much". Like you said, the game could have ended after Leon's campaign...and it actually would have been solid. I think if they fleshed out things like Weapon Upgrades, got rid of the horrific perk system, and just beefed up Leon's campaign (maybe even add'l campaign costumes, secret weapons, etc), it wouldn't have the reputation it has. But by the end, it's a slog. A completely nonsensical story, that like you said is played extremely straight-laced. I swear, nearly half of all cutscenes involve characters pointing guns at each other, clicking them so you know they mean business, and brooding menacingly. I love RE4, fantastic combination of atmosphere, tension, and fun gameplay. 5 was alright, definitely a retread of 4 without the fantastic pacing, but hey your buddy could join you and that was well and fine. But RE6....RE6 was the worst of all, because by cramming so much jam-packed action and over-the-top set pieces and explosions....it became boring. Thanks for the review!

I do like the game. But what stands out is the combat system in this game. Dodge, Counter, special follow-ups that are specific to certain characters according to their combat style... When I went in treating it as an Action Game above all else, it is amazing. As dumb as it sounds, it's not the main game that is the seller, it's the extras, particularly the Mercenaries in the hands of someone that dominates the mechanics. The amount of overly stylish and all-real combat moves you can make is awesome and well-balanced. The Mercenaries in this game is special. And the Left 4 Dead 2 crossover is kinda cool. -A new version of Revelations 2's Raid Mode with this combat system upgraded and Mod Support to bring HUNK and ORC's Wolfpack is my deepest desire-

It's probably my bias, because Resident Evil 6 was the first Resident Evil game I saw and played but I love this game. For sure up there with 4, 2 and 1 as my favorites from mainline games. As weird as it was playing through fourth one and going to the sixth I still had fun through me going back to this game. I definitely can feel why someone would be bored doing 4 campaigns, which are pretty similiar to each other but I always had a fun time just going through and blasting javo and zombies with guns (especially with infinite ammo) And yeah upgrade system is definitely lackluster, there are only a few upgrades that are worth equipping and you can beat the game without changing them Also when it comes to story, even though it's a lot I really love how the game is somehow able to...make sense from this, I think almost every event in the game was somehow explained in other campaign (for example the chainsaw mutant fight from jake's being explained in Ada's) Overall around 7 or so years ago I'd definitely rank this game higher (Or hell, even two years ago) but it still doesn't change the fact that it's really fun to go through from time to time

Thank you for calling out the absolutely horrendous upgrade system in this game. RE6 gives you so many unlockable perks and abilities but only allows you to use three at a time? Why? Once you find the three upgrades you want most, the others become entirely meaningless, as do the skill points you keep collecting. But I suppose this doesn't even matter because like you said, most of the upgrades don't have any noticeable effect in the gameplay. I fully upgraded my firepower and melee but neither had any noticeable impact. Sadly, this awful system is just one of the game's many problems.

Man if only people could respect others opinions. I think it's fair to say RE6 was a *great game*, but not a great *Resident Evil* game. For one RE6 has the best controls I can think of. It's smooth, responsive, and I don't feel any clunkiness holding back my skills. I'm also a sucker for well done 3rd person immersion and RE6 is like, pretty good at that. The UI is pretty good and allows for great customs. Just the fact that I can dodge in such a unique way and have cool melee combat balanced around stamina management is great. The game, is good. But unfortunately it isn't a good Resident Evil game. The problem is more so on identity than quality. The characters and unique enemies like Mr Urgok is what makes the moments memorable anyway, and most of the characters come from the original RE. So like, it's complicated. The quality is undeniable. But the lack of execution of the identity is also undeniable. I think the reason the game is mostly 50/50 in the public eye is people either compare it to other games or not, when it's clear the game tries to be it's own thing while keeping an identity. Man video games are so controversial. The drama... Anyway great video. I like RE6 a lot. (Thank Sherry and Jake for that honestly, they are the stars of the game IMO.) But I can see why it's not a good RE game, and that's exactly why I wish it was just called Biohazard... It would be more fitting.

I think you nailed it, I bought this game day 1 & I was pretty much one of the only people that loved it (around me) at the time. I remember the original bugs and how annoying/ different the gameplay was from the series, some segments were very frustrating & overall the presentation didn’t make much sense, but playing all 3 campaigns & then unlocking Ada’s story was *chef kisses*. I still think Chris has one of the worst stories while Leon was the best and Jake’s was too short. My biggest criticism came from the poor camera and the healing / ammo system. Then there’s the multiplayer that didn’t bring much to the game & took up a lot of storage space. Regardless I love that it was overtly ambitious coming from Capcom and was such a stinker, it inspired them to make RE7 & 8 and the remakes. Overall I think people were too critical of this game. My favorite of the RE series is 5 simply due to the variety of single to co-op going seamless and the game being highly entertaining. Final thought: Ironically, I applaud Capcom for not releasing the stories as DLC, however, if these had been DLC packs, people most likely would’ve appreciated it more. Season passes were big money at the time & would’ve done well, BUT WE GOT IT INCLUDED IN THE BASE GAME. truly mind blowing how overtly criticized it is.

Somehow re 5 is a downgrade to re 4 gameplay-wise (and all aspects, tbh), Sheva's AI is horrible and detrimental to the gameplay (unlike re 6 where you don't rely on your companion). I like that you're being balanced and fair to this game. To me, I think RE 6 gets unfair criticism and although this won't be a popular thing to say, I hated RE 7 and 8 more than 6. RE 6 simply was so much that it wasn't one particular coherent story. It had all those campaigns when it should've remained maybe two campaigns at most. Leon and Helena's campaign was easily the best because it was an homage to the original RE style games. I thought the Chris and Piers campaign was useless to the overall story as was Jake and Sherry's. I think doing the Leon and Helena story with maybe some overarching story with Chris/Piers and Jake/Sherry into different chapters would've been better. Maybe make Leon and Helena's campaign slightly longer but have interaction from the other characters at different points in the story. I absolutely enjoy RE6 these days although one thing I hated about it was the darkness because even at max brightness, you still can't see in certain environments within the game. I wasn't a fan of where Resident Evil went with the whole Texas Chainsaw Massacre wannabe bayou cannibal story of part 7. Only to be outdone by the awful werewolves/vampires in Resident Evil Village. Capcom has strayed too far away from a straight forward, simply zombie game to something that doesn't even resemble a true survival horror game. I hope with RE 9 they choose to go back to their zombie roots and kill all the unnecessary nonsense.
