Funny I have the Directors Cut on PSX.. I probably played about 5 minutes of it before I gave up lol.. I recently got the newer PS4 version and while I lasted a little longer I just played so badly I’d like to just start over again.. It reminds me of an old 80’s style adventure game.. It’s just something I didn’t expect.. Requires much patience from what I see.. I’d be curious to go back to the old version now just to see how different it was..
@@Mintcar923 In the old one Hunters are a bit harder but there are no crimson heads, so especially on higher difficulties if you conserve your ammo, I'd say the new one is easier.
Number one tip for Remake: Unlock the door at the end of the gallery that leads to the cemetery, that path is clean and much easier to go to the save room/courtyard than going through the dogs corridor or the top corridor with the Knights Room. Plus it saves a ton of time.
I didn't know about them either but I haven't seen any yet, I guess i'm not that far. I'm gonna be screwed though cuz i've killed every zombie i've seen :(
That's what I did too I just restarted my game and didn't kill any of them and just dodge them or use defense weapons like the knife or the other things@@confirmmyhl3942
I wish I knew that back then. Ah, the pain of blind playtgroughs. I love saying that Survival Horror stands for the horror of not knowing where to go and surviving attempts at finding it out
This is exactly what i was looking for! I appreciate that you took into consideration that many of us watching this video are newcomers to this game, so the SPOILER-FREE aproach was a great detail! Great work man!
Also, your save staggering technique is EXACTLY how I play most games nowadays. Especially horror games. And it all started for me...with this game. Well said!
The way I beat this game in hard mode back in GameCube days was when I realized that if you back away from a zombie, they will lunge at you and miss the first attempt, giving you time to run past them. To effectively measure that distance, use a knife. If you can just slash the legs, they will soon lunge at you and if you’re stepping back they will miss.
I just got resident evil 1 for the switch and this guide will help me a lot; I know this video is 6 years old but thank you so much for all the tips and tricks!'
Another tip I'd give is that if you have a change to tight zombies on stairs, DO IT. Zombies don't seem to grab you, they will puke tho, but it's much easier to avoid imo.
I'm not sure if you still read comments on here, but this is the greatest guide video I have ever seen. I was praying that something like this existed and you've knocked it outta the park. I bought the REmake a while but ended up getting real frustrated. For my 2nd attempt, I wanted to go in w/ some knowledge, and your tips were EXACTLY the kinda stuff I wanted to know. Got me so stoked I think imma go start it now! I wanna say thank you. Your love for this game has shone through w/ this video and I am so grateful to have seen it. Keep on keepin' on, man. Much love from a soon-to-be Resident Evil fan
It still looks very very sharp in 2020 definitely better than a lit of games that are released even today. It doesn't hold your hand, and it will savage you. Don't underestimate it .
im disappointed i wasnt allowed to play this as a child, wasnt a bad game or anything its just, my dad didnt think "foreign" games were good. so i played san andreas way too much on my SONY ps2. if only he knew where sony came from
Playing resident Evil 0 and 1 tonight. Tbh i never played RE because i never thought it was scary. but since RE2 remake is coming out i should give RE series a try
Game is meant to raise your anxiety and put you in a survival state. The fixed angles add to that aspect. You never know what's around the corner or if that zombie on the floor is really dead or if you have enough ammo to make it through the next area. Sometimes dogs jump through a window in a room you walked past before. Point is RE1 was basically the first true survival game and that's why it was so good. Enjoy it for what it is.
played resident evil when i was really young - i sneaked into the living room when my parents werent home and played it through on a seperate sd card. ^^ my dad was so mad until he relized that i progressed further with my own safe file... then we played together... gonna start playing re remake soon :D
Clear areas that you use a lot. those crazy long awkward corridors (like you said they are connected to a lot of other rooms, some you never have to go into again) leading to save rooms were a nightmare and ended up crawling with crimson zombies. The mental thing about this version of it is that the zombies CAN COME DOWN THE STAIRS AFTER YOU. Next time they are the first thing to go. I think you can get 4 units of kerosene in each can (3 CAN'S in total) but I have learned that you can burn multiple bodies if you pile them up and kill them in the same spot. Or try to anyway. Then they will BUUUUURN!! This is a great guide by the way, I wrote all that before even listening to what you said lol. Your advise is spot on. this game was super awesome fun. The backtracking is handy for getting used to the way to go without having to look at the map. This game is legend.
Enigmatic Grind is the entire point of design Resident Evil. its mysterious and punishing. only us walkthroughs if you genuinly have this blank stump stagnant hopless progression. even then read everything for key code words in your files and search every nook and cranny. its not realistic. dont think too hard. keep that in mind. its still just a game with wacky puzzles.
Playing this game on “climbing the mountain” difficulty with Chris for the first time and by god...the real horror is the controls. Does anyone know which button on the type B controls can be used to equip/use/combine items?
I remember in my first playthrough was stingy about my ammo and being conservative and by the end I was like wow I could have used more of my ammo cause I mostly used the handgun and shotgun sometimes I used the grenade launcher but not really that much and with Chris it was mostly the handgun unless with bosses I used the shot gun
This guide is awesome. I have trouble getting into this game, because almost everything works differently than in modern games. But you pretty much explained everything i was having doubts about. I really want to like this game, and thanks to your guide, i'm sure i will.
the only thing I never liked about is the limited saves cause I got real life shit to do some times and I have to save a lot and hate restarting back at the beginning one thing I noticed is this game is a bit of a commitment but I still like the game vary much and thanks for the tips really helped
I mean you can beat the game in like two hours not even speed running if you know what you're doing. If you're saving after every little puzzle you complete you're doing something wrong. If you have to come back to the game and redo some parts it will probably take you less than 5 minutes and the added bonus is that you know what's to come so you're able to save resources and time by replaying it.
@@TrepidateousfleshI’m really late but I hope this comment helps other ppl. The game has an achievement that makes you have to beat the game in under 3 hours. Speed runners have beaten the game in about an hour so you can definitely beat the game in 2
I'm playing through code veronica X right now and while I know its more action oriented than the REmake its still been a learning curve. Im still getting a grasp on when I should attempt to run past and when I should shoot but inventory management is the biggest problem. Maybe REmake is different but im screwed against hunters without a shotgun and some enemies seem impossible to dodge. So from my view I'm down half my inventory on weapons already. Id like to request some further explanation on how to make nothing but a pistol work or details on how I can know when ill need a shotgun and should sacrafice space
Cheers for the tips, great video! Just started this classic last night and I'm excited to see how I get on. I was saving relentlessly and I thought it was some wierd glitch at first that I couldn't save!
This game has me feeling like a damn noob. It doesn’t hold your hand or nothing. You on your own with everything and figuring the obvious and not so obvious crap out yourself lol 😭
I hated this game when I was younger it used to scare the shit out of me I had it on the Nintendo wii now I saw it on sale for PS4 and brought it for £4 super good cheap deal can’t go wrong there so I’ve been playing it today and I have been getting so many satisfying headshots also the fixed camera angles and controls haven’t been as annoying as how I used to remember it to think about it I actually love those fixed camera angles it’s unique you don’t see that in modern day looking games also I think this resident evil is better then the current modern versions of resident evil
The reason the controls aren't so "annoying" as you remembered, is because they put a modern control option (defaut) you can switch to the classic "tank" controls.
Thanks for the tips! My adventure started with RE4 years ago on a borrowed GameCube, and only now, after getting it from PS+, I finally have a chance to play this remake of a classic. I didn't want a boring cheesy adventure, so I started on hard (to climb that mountain ;)). And holy crap, I am shitting my pants every time I see an enemy! Also, looking at the map on your video I realized that I decided to not risk losing progress and turned back just before the room with typewriter and the box. DAMMIT! :D The game is much better and more complex than I thought. And that ATMOSPHERE! But I still can't treat the story with any "respect" :P. RE4 got it right with it's cheesy dark comedy tone.
That "Climb the Mountain" is actually normal difficulty. After you beat the game once you can get the real hard mode. I picked the middle option on my first play through and my achievement at the end was for beating the game on "easy".
I always refrain from watching a walkthrough at least on my first try. Once i have beaten it and want to go for the timed unlocks like the Samurai Edge or Infinite Rocket Launcher, a walkthrough can be very helpful to cut time efficiently. And since i have already experienced the game as it was intended to, i am free to get some help.
i thought the exploit where you could burn stacked bodies was removed cause i've tried before but thanks to your vid im gonna try again. thanks for your mentioning it been looking &found this helpful
Just to be clear, it's not an exploit, there is a (steam) trophy for doing it. "Break Out the Marshmallows! Burn up two zombies at the same time with the lighter."
I miss tank controls and fixed camera angles. The horror is more surreal and you never know what's around the corner unless your listening which heightens your anxiety more.
I did not know that you could burn multiple zombies if the die on top of each other. That was new. I am about to start a playthrough. Just finished Resident Evil Zero in normal mode (hard is too much for me) and this game is next.
I watched a speedrun and a guy said that each weapon will "crit" one per x amount of shots. So like the normal rifle will headshot crit 7/10 times I believe, the assault rifle is 8/10 while the pistol will crit once every ten shots and if it's the killing shot it will blow their head off. My numbers may be a bit wrong but I thought that was pretty useful info.
Honestly, the limited inventory space and the need for ink to save were huge deal breakers for me. I don't think I can play this game unfortunately. I'll just watch someone do it instead.
thank for the tip on incineration zombies. I could deal with zombies with a knife with ease but I don't even wanna think about the crimson heads. ps I'm only at the 1st Dropbox.
I just beat the gave on normal aka the highest one I could pick and omg ya I wish I knew these tips especially the storage part , playing as Chris, and the saves cus I’m pissed I c ouldnt save Rebecca, because I swear I went up there straight away
Here’s what I do when I encounter this situation which is watch a walk-through but only watch it enough of it to give you a Little nudge in the right direction as in which room to go to or how to start a puzzle
I agree that a walkthrough will take away the sense of accomplishment for the game. But I’d say that it’s not that bad if you’re mostly in it for the story rather than bragging rights of having beaten the game.
The game can only look so good. That said, there are two mods that you should try. One is for the character models and one is for the interior set pieces. Both can be found on Nexus Mods.
I know this is spoiler free and indeed very useful for newcomers, but knowing this game by heart it's kinda funny how most scenes showing parts of the game in the background while you speak show a really poor gameplay, anyone else noticed this? I'm not saying it's you playing them, just saying that you should not deal with zombies that wat, using up all defensive items for example
putting my thinking cap on and use it? what kind of game does that!? Good guide man, I remember the first time figuring out what to do once I got the book of curses.
One question: as a beginner who isn't an expert of RE 1, and generally a little terrified from all the frustraiting aspects, should I play on Normal (aka as the game was intended to be) or Easy (a more casual experience) for first playthrough? (and if so, you'd recommend Jill or Chris first?)
I recommend Jill for the first time. I say this a lot : Survival Horror stands for horror of not knowing where to go and surviving attempts at finding out. Jill has less health than Chris, but has 2 more item slots, a lockpick and Barry can help you in certain situations. Also Jill's campaign has more focus on the story. So with Jill it's not that big of a drag to blindly walk around. Chris feels more designed for a 2nd run, when you know what to take with you and where to get it, since again, less inventory space and you don't get some items for free
@@Lajos_Kelemen Well I'm playing on Easy (because out of three options I picked the middle one, assuming it was Normal), and it's not that easy. But in my book this *is* Normal, since they gave me three options with dumb names and I do not care for any additional unlockable modes. So you can pick easy for the first time. Especially because this game has a few moment where you'll 100% get cornered, and Jill has less health.
I enjoy the better quality of graphics but why the old-school show fighting? The only good thing they At is counter. At least in re2 remake you can aim at the head and aim and walk and go behind the corner and counter. In re3 remake you can dotch and slow motion shoot them. or push them over. Why not here. Wesker said they are trained fighters but can't dotch or block 🙄🤤. Even if you put a dagger in there brain they often still walk, as a fan of the zombie genre I feel frustrated because you normally kill a zombie when destroying the brain. For now I shoot them and stab the shit out of them when they are down. For men with a family and still want to do gaming it's to much of a time consuming game.
