People out there actually defending Sony's nonsensical price raise. "Production cost has gone up" Really? How are people going to react when you bump up a price of a two-year-old product in the midst of a recession? Makes no sense whatsoever.

We all saw this coming btw. Sony is basically doing what they did during the ps3 era, except even worse. They're so high off their own farts, that they believe their fans will buy anything.

I don't see any possibility of Sony releasing PS5 Pro any time soon when the PS5 costs now costs 550euro. Shame that Sony is once again cocky like they were in the past PS2 -> PS3 generation. Xbox ate the 7th gen console generation cake because Sony thought they are the kings of gaming and no-one can compete. Hope it happens once again this generation and Microsoft takes some of that cocky attitude from Sony back. I own both PS5 and Xbox Series X and I play the Series X much more thanks to game pass and X360 back compatibility.

This is why I went with a Microsoft refurbished series x. Such a great value without having to pay $1k+ for a console. That plus an extra controller and an included game of your choice. Such a great value. Edit: the bundle is about $600.

A $550 PS5 today is cheaper than a $500 PS5 two years ago. Inflation has been in the 20% to 40% range for the past few years. It's out of control.

Well this helps with my decision making of which one I should get. As much as I love some Sony IPs, I'm probably gonna get the Series X. I live in the U.S., so it's not much of a problem for me with the price increase elsewhere, but still. I feel like PS5 has more offers when it comes to original games, but I've honestly been more with Xbox this past generation. I'm still happy with my Xbox One X, but I sold my PS4 because PS4 didn't have everything I wanted, whereas XBO has backward compatibility with games I like. Not all games, but enough games. And given the Series X is currently a much more powerful XBO, I'll probably get that before a PS5. Now anything could change between now and then, of course, but if I'm picking a side right now, I'm on the Xbox side.

2 years and still have not been able to buy one, I gave up and bought the Series S at first then upgraded to the Series X and that has been the best decision ever. Sony lost the plot and became too cocky.

Maybe if Sony hadn't thrown Horizon Forbidden West to the Wolves (Elden Ring) just like they did with Horizon Zero Dawn to BotW they wouldn't be needing to Nickel and Dime hardware on claims of inflation

It really sucks for anyone who wants to get the PS5. The PS5 is still difficult to get nowadays and Sony haven’t improved its shipments to bring it to stores everywhere to combat scalpers who are trying to buy all of the systems and selling them at a higher price than what Sony is selling it for. Microsoft is making smart decisions by increasing the amount of Xbox Series systems and bring them to stores worldwide. The Xbox Series S is becoming more easier to find wether if it’s in stores or online. Also, to the fact that with Microsoft buying both Bethesda and Activision/Blizzard, I think that Microsoft will get the upper advantage over Sony. There are some IPs that will remain multi platform example Call of Duty, Overwatch, Diablo, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon. Some IPs from Activision/Blizzard will be exclusive to Xbox. I think that Sony needs to take note on what Microsoft is doing with its Game Pass service. Sony doesn’t have an subscription base where you could play any games that are day one release plus there is no way to play the games from Sony’s previous systems to play on PS5 due to the fact that the PS5 lacked the backwards compatible from past systems. It only backwards compatible with only PS4 games.

Glad I got rid of my PS5 last year and switched the Xbox I play my switch more I'm hoping they come out with a pro cuz this launch model has terrible performance

I don't like the price hike, however the PlayStation brand is very popular in Europe and Japan compared to Xbox, so I don't see it making a difference. Also people pay a $1000 for a phone and complain about this? I think the Xbox Series X and PS5 were underpriced from the beginning.

I would much prefer a price increase on the system instead of software because you buy software much more often. Now, I am biased because I was lucky enough to snag mine in December of 2020, but I think others would agree with me. A lot of my friends are turning to scalpers because they are just tired of waiting so people are willing to pay more, but it is a strange move nonetheless.

I thought they refreshed the console to be cheaper to make and they made a small profit. Hardware should make a small loss and they gain revenue in other means (digital store, licences etc) so you are in their platform. I don't like the price hike as it shows greed nothing more. They should upscales the production to make it cheaper (again) and keep the price, this is absurd

I don’t know how Sony can justify The disc drive version £500 here in the UK, the Digital version I’m really not too worried about, I guess because in my mind I thought it was around 400 quid anyway. This is what happens when you haven’t seen a PS5 in the wild so you forget what the RRP price is. At least in the case of Microsoft they’ve not decided to follow Sony’s bullshit, I guess this is because for Microsoft the Xbox brand is more of a “hobby“ and considering they’re making money on other stuff like software/services Windows etc, I don’t think Microsoft cares. You know I can see this. Sony is definitely participating in it. I know right now Amazon is doing "wait lists" to buy a PS5 and sending out invitations to buy them roughly every 2-3 days. If they are getting a steady stream of units to hand out requests every 3 days, there is not the supply issue we are lead to believe. They are just intentionally drip feeding them. Probably because because in a consoles lifecycle within 2 years of release we would have already seen at least one price break. Yet hear we see a price increase. (Well not yet at least but it seems inevitable) This truly feels like gaming the system and the system is us.

Sony lately doing really weird moves,since they are now in California;Insertion of modern politics in some games,Censorship to appease twitter mob which doesn't even play games,Lack of FPS (ps3 have Killzone and awesome Resistance trilogy),shutting down Studio Japan with Keiichiro Toyama (Father of psychological horror;Silent Hill,Siren and unique Gravity Rush),now this etc. I'm big sony fan since PSP days (start playing games later in life) and I'm angry on fanboys too. If they were more vocal about direction maybe we would have this many bs. I don't care about Xbox "problems" or if Switch problems, I care about PS that's why I'm critical towards Sony the most. P.S. Well I like and care for Nintendo but I can't justify 70€ just for one old game. This might be an unpopular opinion, but if there is no way for them to increase production on their chip side, the only thing they can do is change their prices. As long as they are selling out all of their product, the price is irrelevant. Once they cant sell out at the higher price, they can lower it down to a price people will pay. The analogy an economist would use is, "Is a concert sell out a good thing?" Their answer would be no. A sell out can be argued that your price should have been higher and you could have made more money and still possibly have sold out.
