I don't really think an open world resident evil would work given that from what I've gathered, resident evil games are meant to be linear games and work well that way
Yeah it really depends on how they handle it, open world/zone gives too much freedom to run from enemies so it can really destroy any horror if not done correctly.
OG Resident evil 3 was basically open world, just in a small scale. I think it can work, as long as they keep resident evil essence of exploration and key item gathering with no stupid side missions or rpg elements like skill trees.
If any of you played games like Dishonored 1 + 2, Prey 2017, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, that's the kinda "open world" that I'd like. There's this 1 big General Place. And then it's divided into smaller zones/ areas. You (the game developer) can tailor make each smaller zone into a coherent "level." Like in Elden Ring: The Lands Between kinda sucks as an open-world. Directionless. Erratic. But each specific dungeon, this castle or that mausoleum, had intentional design, and they "flowed." They make sense and are not chaotic. "Hand crafted."
Please god i hope they don't remake code veronica. Does anyone remember how many times you could get soft lock yourself. Resi 3 was the more polished product back then. I want dino crisis!!!
