FACT: The American version doesn't support the lightgun, which he even mentions AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE VIDEO. How can you call him a moron when you can't even pay attention for two minutes.

They're not playing with the lightgun. At least in the UK, you could play Survivor with the PS1 gun and it played so much better.

I know that it's because they don't have the guncon/lightgun. And the UK, as far as I know, didn't have any Columbine-like incidents for Parliament to point fingers at video games as a culprit/scapegoat that would have prevented release/compatibility with a gun (I encourage any Brits who see this comment to feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I must confess that I am not up-to-date on my modern British history.)

Having Calvin in a "Is It Really That Bad?" vid totally reminds me of what I love doing with my friends when we play games together. I think my biggest problem with this game is that I see an idea that had potential, but it was completely ruined by bad aiming controls. I kinda like walking around in it, or when you turn a corner and there’s a couple zombies there for a little startle. Those things don’t make up for the aiming controls though.

I'd say that Clock tower 2 is gettin' there, but that might just be my inner Clock tower fanboy speaking (not to mention my everlasting hatred for that game that's fueling my fanboy glee to see Derek tear it a new one). Besides that, I also liked Bug island if only for just the fuckin' bug joke fedora, I liked Hexen as being a more brisk & "get to the point" kind of IIRTB? episode for once. I would say that I liked the Sum of all fears as well, but I got a headache from that gameplay & audio every time, so I can't watch it.

Late comment here but RE1 was originally planned to be in first person. Due to time and money they made the decision to make it 3rd person fixed camera. That's why the door and stair animations exist.

Wow, this game actually looks pretty cool. For a light gun game, I assumed it would just be an on-rails shooter like Time Crisis or something. But it's basically more or less a legit PS1 era Resident Evil game, just in first-person. I don't know why they bashed the graphics. This game looks pretty good for a PS1 title, especially one that is fully 3D and doesn't rely on pre-rendered 2D backgrounds like most RE games. And I really dig the creepy "lighting" (a.k.a. wall textures, lol).

I think this is actually a pretty good game. Ive played it so many times throughout the years and I love playing it. The voice acting and the graphics aren't that good atall but if they were to remake the game with better graphics and acting then it'd actually be a better game

Half this game is playing it with the guncon, and original guncon only worked on model scph 1001 which has rca outs, that's why not much people got to play this as the way it meant to be, and believe me , with the guncon is actually an enjoyable game if you are a big fan of the series.

Survivor does get a few points from me. -Branching paths -Good music(theater music was pretty creepy, as was the intro music) -Playable controls, it wasn't great but it worked. -You are ALONE, there are kids in the game, but honestly do you feel safe when protected or wandering around with kids? You don't, kids are a pain int he ass. -Decent graphics, remember Resident Evil up to this point was a 3D game on top of a 2D Background, this game was totally 3D.

10:04 so they are complaining that you have to go through your items to put the film in the projector? That doesn't sound like any of the other classic Resident Evil games! To be fair though, the game is still flawed...the infinite ammo kinda ruins the survival horror aspect...the fact there is no reload button...the hit detection was pretty random and the controls weren't the best for a first person perspective. I still kinda like the game because of it atmosphere and sound design...it had that Resident Evil vibe to it despite it shortcomings.

I always thought this game was an on-rails shooter, I didn't realize that you were able to control your characters movement. I always thought these Resident Evil games were capcoms answer to the house of the dead franchise.

I had this in my RE collection back in the PS1 days. Not better than the first 3, but I had fun. I liked how you had a few different paths to take. Very easy game, and short from what I remember. I remember beating the game in about an hour and a half. I beat a 2nd time in 30-35 minutes after I knew what to do.

The first time I beat it was like in 2 hours, and then it took me on average 1 hour to pass it, yeah the game was fun in the sense that you could take different paths, but the first person camera was horrible, you couldn't even see the hand of the player with the weapon. Also, you had to beat the game in a day, cuz you can't save the game, just at the end when you beat it...

fucking awesome game, i can remember the posters in my local arcade & then the older kids that had left school & had jobs they bought the game on release & fucking raved about how it could actually shit you up.... i was still at school & saved my money & i can remember my first play on my own in my bedroom.... when that window broke in that corridor & i saw that dog i turned down the sound & the light went back on.... fond memories!!

I'm a HUGE fan of the story AND the tyrant in this. Both awesome when you understand what's going on. I used to write short stories in a forum and I loved doing survivor spin offs. It would have made a great classic style game.

I know that its an old video, but I still have the European version with Light gun support and its actually pretty good. The namco g-con has a button on each side for turn left ight. You hold both to walk forward.. I imagine it would suck with a controller though.

Light gun support was still in the pal version, 08:36 the controls were really weird. To move forward you pointed the gun off screen and held the trigger down, the two buttons on the side turned you left and right and yes it was awkward as hell

I would love to see your take on Vampire Rain for the Xbox 360. I recently picked the game up for £5 and am actually really enjoying it.
