@@MuMasoo fr! kristen is pretty cool(if that's how you spell it). especially on that re 2 dlc stream they did when she was on. I didn't expect her to be such a RE fan.
Ethan re-attaching his hand with fucking chem fluid made me laugh so hard out loud the moment it happened, in a way that partly took me out of how intense the moments preceding were, but also reminded me of classic RE camp. Finding out he's a molded at the end of the game really made that all work for me.
I wish there was some nod to classic characters in the Chris’ part of Village. If only Sheva had been part of his team or if he mentioned Jill or Barry when BSAA arrives, it would have made me smile like an idiot Also : full playthrough with Kyle !? That’s amazing !
Its weird. I felt lukewarm towards this game for much of my playthrough, yet it all came together so well that when it ended and as I began to think about it I actually ended up liking it more and more as I thought about it.
@@MakenshiCritiques I’m really talking more about the gameplay than the story. As I played through the game I thought it was kind of all over the place gameplay wise and I could only play it for an hour at a time. But then when I’d completed it I thought back and there seemed to be so many fantastic moments that I don’t think I full appreciated as I played through the game.
Hearing Ben talk about having a better time on hardcore than standard difficulty, i felt the complete opposite. I played through it on standard, but had a blast replaying it on casual. Guess i'm more of a puzzle guy than combat, so that'll do it.
26:25 Knowing what we know about BSAA and Chris, specially after reading the bonus 80-page-long file and the concept arts, I would love to see a Jill x Chris ideological conflict. While she is still part of BSAA and totally refuses to join Umbrella because of all RE1/RE3 PTSD and Chris is like "Girl, BSAA is f'd up, open your eyes". She still wants to fix BSAA while Chris thinks they are just beyond salvation. Putting this on a DLC for Village, since Chris was setting a course to BSAA Europe HQ at the last cutscene after seeing that BOW, would be a great way to do it. So seeing him actually fighting BSAA-made B.O.W. and having this conflict with Jill at the end would be so crazy. They could either save this conflict for RE9 or just starting RE9 with a RE4-ish narration with Rose saying "Well BSAA is gone" and then she is our main character, working under Chris for Umbrella. But before RE9 we would have Revelations 3 that shows up what exactly happened between BSAA, Chris and the Blue Umbrella to set everything up. That would be fantastic.
I haven't played RE8 cause im too scared to play it in 1st person, but i 100% LOVE just hearing you guys gush about it. I was so invested in seeing the story through your streams. Legit excited for the full playthrough this weekend. Thanks so much for allowing me to engage and enjoy the hype for RE8 even tho im too scared to play it alone lol. Much Love & Respect from Canada!
Play it during the day, with speakers on the easiest difficulty. There's like one jumpscare in the entire game. I think you'll be fine. This feels more like a Call of Duty with monsters than something akin to Silent Hill. Try the village demo on the easiest setting. You'll see you won't be scared!
I feel like Resident Evil can take any route now cause there is so much going on, we have many undercover corporations working in the shadows, Alex wesker and not only that but they can expand the lore even more with re4 remake and code veronica bringing more details about the lore and new connections made in recent games So much stuff to talk about lorewise xD ( specially on hubers comment about Bow use in war and the evolution of the series in that regard ) Anyway everyone that can read Marhawa desire and heavenly island should do it, those mangas are sick
26:26 This was a little bizarre to listen to. Chris was already bitter, jaded, hardened Chris in RE6, the choosing of either side and who to follow was already a big element in RE6 --- I feel like I'm in the twilight zone here
@@charoleawood I don't think that was what people didn't like about 6 though. I never even managed to beat that game, but in my case I hated the Flanderized characters (which I think was also a big problem in RE5), the abysmally bad story, and the mediocre 3rd person shooter gameplay. Multiple character perspectives and conflict among protagonists was not an issue for me.
@@Anglerbe I learned a new term today, "Flanderization". So, I actually think what was done in 6 was the opposite of Flanderization, they tried to add more depth and complexity to the characters and it largely failed with the audience. And I think that RE5 is the best game of the series, it think Chris is the most believable in it even though in RE6 he's certainly more fleshed-out. I never wanted RE to break past what was done in RE4 and RE5, the characters in the series have always been very approachable, it was always a PG movie with blood, a Saturday morning cartoon with "Flanderized" good guy and bad guy characters. I feel like with RE6 they tried to force it to grow up thematically and it was a little marred for that, even though I DO find Chris's campaign, his story with Piers, remarkably affecting. They over stretched themselves with RE6 in numerous ways. And I do think that is a common complaint, part of the common understanding of how RE6 became one of the least liked games in the series --- Capcom trying to tell four overlapping campaign stories with seven different characters in one game. But even so, I'd love to see them try that kind of grand adventure and overlapping narrative again with RE9. As for RE7, I like that game less than RE6, I think it took the series further down a mistrodden path of wanting to be grown-up, I long instead for "Bad question Hannigan" and "You're going to judge us? Do you get all of your ideas from comic book villains?!" Those approachable, Saturday morning adventures informed more by 80s Transformers and GI Joe and radio play detectives than by Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Saw and Hostel.
@@charoleawood Tonally, I kind of agree with you about the direction 7 took things. But there's just nothing about 5 or 6 that appeals to me at all (I made an independent comment elsewhere in the comments section of this video explaining my thoughts about the characters a bit more). And like I said, I didn't play all of 6, but I think what was happening in 6 was that they were trying to add depth to characters that had been basically retconned and reduced to caricatures in the previous game. You could change Chris and Wesker's names in 5 (and maybe like change Wesker's hair color or something) and they would be basically unrecognizable as the characters they were earlier in the series). 6's problems go a lot deeper than that ofc, all the cloning nonsense for example. This is a little hyperbolic, but 6 is like the worst possible execution of a set of ideas, some of which are terrible and some which could have some merit if done well.
@@Anglerbe So I've done some thinking about this, I read your other comment here and I reviewed the cutscenes from RE1 and Code Veronica and I just can NOT agree with any of your criticisms of RE5. There wasn't much to work with from RE1 and CV but what is there is by no means radically different than how Chris and Wesker are presented in RE5 --- I say that RE5 improved these characters. RE5 is a much bigger game than RE1 or CV and Chris probably has more to say in the opening of RE5 than in all of RE1 and CV combined. "You could change Chris and Wesker's names in 5 (and maybe like change Wesker's hair color or something) and they would be basically unrecognizable as the characters they were earlier in the series" --- I just find this line baffling, befuddling, and wrong. They are certainly recognizable as their characters from RE1 and CV, particularly from CV. "Wesker went from calculating background schemer who knew his limits in the previous games (a sort of foil to most of the other villains in the series) to a generic, bad-comic-book 'let me tell you my idiotic evil plan in a monologue and laugh maniacally and then react in shock when the stupid plan falls apart' type villain." --- This is exactly what happens in RE1 and CV, Wesker confronts Chris and monologues his plan to him, RE5 is just being faithful to his character. He is also the main antagonist of RE1, not simply a "foil" for other villains. And he did NOT know his limits, Tyrant kills his ass after he releases Tyrant in RE1, intending to have it obey him and to kill Chris instead. "And Chris wasn't exactly oozing personality in the early games but he at least had some quips and a sort of potentially interesting position in relation to the RPD colluding with Umbrella" --- kind of like the BSAA's collusion with Tricell in RE5? "I would have thought that post-Code Veronica is when Chris would become a kind of jaded anti-authority rogue element, given his experiences. Instead RE5 makes him a generic boot boy war-on-terror-esque yeehaw soldier man." --- I have two things to say about this. 1.) Chris does go rogue in RE5, after he and Sheva kill a giant they go off on their own on a fan boat, no longer taking orders from the BSAA. 2.) If he's jaded --- I'd say Chris sure is careworn at the very least throughout RE5 --- then how is he supposed to "quip" any jokes? Pick a lane. You indicate you like the direction RE7 took his character, I can only think that's because he's totally without humor in that game and you're meant to feel sorry for him in "Not a Hero", so what gives? If you don't like RE5's focus on co-op, if you don't like Chris's steroid problem (akin to Bruce Wayne's in the Arkham series) then fine, I can see how somebody wouldn't like those things (I love Sheva and I think RE5 is great singleplayer or with a friend). But if you don't like RE5 because it ruins Chris and Wesker then I have to suggest reassessing RE1 and Code Veronica. As for RE6 and cloning --- how is cloning "nonsense" for a science fiction series about biological warfare? I just don't see the problem.
@@nei1995 i think the complaints are aimed towards the final act of the game, which is a curse for almost all RE games. But i do believe RE8 has a stronger final act than most titles in this series.
@@nei1995 my beef is that 7 felt like a new version of RE1 and 8 was more like 4-6. I like the original survival horror vibes more so I'm a little worries about the direction things are going. But I still enjoyed the game a lot
@@nei1995 Prior to the last hour Village was gunning to be in my top three RE games, but I think it dropped the ball on all fronts from the Heisenberg fight onwards.
Been on resident evil binge the last month. Replayed remake, re2 remake re3 remake re4 and re7. I don't own 5 but it's being delivered soon amd I've never played 6. Loved RE8
@@AgentAika001 I love Code Veronica. I also tried Revelations 1 but I didn't play much at all before I quit. Revelations 2 is spoken highly of, however, I should probably play through both.
@@decepticonmecha I was talking to my friend about this last night. We kinda went over all the different major protags of the series and Chris has obviously been in most games. I’d like to see what’s up with Jill who hasn’t been heard from since 5 and with Rebecca who hasn’t been heard of in games since 1 chronologically.
I played on Standard and it is a strong GOTY contender for me. I have a weird thing where the more I die in a survival horror game the more immersion I lose , because then it's just me solving a video game, not me trying to actually survive. I feel like Hardcore would have pulled me out of the immersion of feeling like I could actually make it out and not have to retry a section 10 times.
I dont really agree about the difficulty thing. Besides the opening section the game is actually barely any different on normal or hard, so I doubt Ben would have felt any differently no matter what he played on first playthrough. To me this game is just another example of why difficulty levels are pointless, because the developers clearly struggled to make the game balanced in a way that it catered for other difficulties besides normal, to the point where they just made hard basically the same thing as normal, and village of shadows is only really playable on NG plus unless youre a gaming god.
Guys I played through it on standard my first run and I think it made me straight whatever about this game, and now I’m just over it, and I’m playing my 2nd run of RE1 as Chris so that’s making up for the lack of challenge but honestly I’m just going to wait for RE8 on PSVR2 because there’s no way that’s not happening, so I’m saving my full hype
Ben, Huber... what if the symbol on Roses shoe is her "logo".. or her house. There's talk of the Duke being a lord (he had a logo in his cart and was well documented as having interactions with the other dukes).. what if she's a lord and that's her logo?
Sounds like you got the hardest part out of the way. The rest should be a cake walk in comparison. I’ve done everything except the Mercenaries trophies and I’m so bad at it I’m probably just not gonna get them.
@@BogeyZero There is no way I'd be able to get SSS on any of the harder levels. I did find with some you don't really need to finish all areas - if you completely perfect the first stages, and run them quick, you're nearly at rank S already. Had 60+ combo on Factory 2 first level, and didn't even kill Strum (propeller guy) and just ran to the exit. (use magnum only for sisters and the odd robots). That was enough for S alone. Similar with Mad Village 2 - 41 combo first area with quick exit. Second area I had 2 healthy combos but not perfect, but was quick. With third area I was only 50k away from S rank, so just unloaded my whole arsenal to get me above the needed score.
Adding to the conversation about difficulty, GMTK has a great series on how the "Easy Medium Hard" difficulty choice isn't great, because you haven't had the chance to know what the game is like, so how should you know what difficulty is right for you? Also, it can belittle the player for having a difficult time with a game on standard difficulties. Instead, fine tuning the game to a single difficulty and allowing the player to tweak parameters (such as ammo scarcity and enemy health) let's the player create the right difficulty for themselves. Celeste did the best in this respect, even allowing infinite jumps if you want.
I think that picture Huber is so excited about possibly being Wesker is clearly Heisenberg.... right?... its of an older dude, with longer hair, and sunglasses... i dunno, i think Wesker will eventually come back in some form, but i dont think that photo is him.
I'd love that too but it wouldn't be hard to have it be survival horror, Chris Jill Leon and Claire have dealt with enough of this to make them super heroes at this point
I’ll have my 🍿 ready. A blanket to get nice and cozy. A nice beverage of my choosing, undecided as of right now ngl. 🤣 Cuz Saturday is gonna b a fun time. 🤲🏼🤣🌹🤲🏼
I specifically didn't want to play on hardcore because I knew there would inevitably be a section that I would get stuck on and die a bunch which fully takes me out of enjoying the atmosphere or with this game specifically actually being scared by anything. I preferred my first playthrough being maybe 10% too easy compared to being too stressed out. This is the first RE game I actually want to replay and platinum and wanting to try it on a harder difficulty is part of that.
If it was 10% easier, you wouln't even notice the difference. Ben, Huber, AngryJoe, Maximilian... everyone agrees this game specifically should be played first on Hardcore. Good balance of survivability and gunplay.
The problem with standard in this game, is that it really is too easy. I'm not some god gamer by any means, and I got to the factory with zero deaths. I just quit there and started over on Hardcore. The first hour or so on Hardcore is pretty tough, but after that it's honestly not too bad. To me it feels like how the game was meant to be played. That's just my opinion, though.
@@ASDisastersama there's literally nobody who's opinions on video games I give less of a shit about than fucking Angry Joe lol I definitely could have played it on hardcore and still fully enjoyed it considering I died like maybe 3 times the entire playthrough but I don't feel like any part of my experience was lessened by playing it on standard. Part of this might have also been that I didn't play RE7 at all, I think those who have already played 7 and aren't just playing for the story or whatever should definitely start 8 on hardcore.
@@librarygary1618 I start games over all the time when I'm liking them. I have no idea why I do it. I guess I don't want them to end? No idea. I do it with books sometimes, too. I guess I'm a psycho, haha.
I always thought the characterizations in RE5, especially of Chris and Wesker, were Flanderized and botched to hell. Wesker went from calculating background schemer who knew his limits in the previous games (a sort of foil to most of the other villains in the series) to a generic, bad-comic-book "let me tell you my idiotic evil plan in a monologue and laugh maniacally and then react in shock when the stupid plan falls apart" type villain. And Chris wasn't exactly oozing personality in the early games but he at least had some quips and a sort of potentially interesting position in relation to the RPD colluding with Umbrella. I would have thought that post-Code Veronica is when Chris would become a kind of jaded anti-authority rogue element, given his experiences. Instead RE5 makes him a generic boot boy war-on-terror-esque yeehaw soldier man. He's so generic that Marvel vs Capcom Infinite literally makes a joke about how generic he is. I feel like not until RE7/Not a Hero did they kind of try to make Chris interesting again, but 7 and 8 are weighed down by the baggage of 5 and 6. And obviously Wesker is dead (for now) so they can't undo the damage RE5 did to his character. I should probably mention that I haven't played the Revelations games enough to have a take on how those games treat their respective characters. I honestly don't know how popular my opinions on this topic are, I've always sort of felt like I was in the minority here. Anyway, this was a really wordy and rambley way of getting to the point that I really hope they bring Wesker back and kind of pretend RE5 didn't happen (unless its to make jokes about punching boulders and so forth)
It's Ethan. You can actually enter photo mode and zoom in and it's a fully rendered model of Ethans model. That's too specific to use the main character for just some random person. That's just too weird to do without it being on purpose.
Eh, I thought standard was fine. I got to see everything in the game, died maybe like once? I made it a little more difficult for myself by not making any ammo.
I enjoyed RE8 while playing through it, but afterwards I am actually a bit worried about where they are taking the story. It feels a lot like RE4 again. RE5 was fun but it wasn't the direction I wanted the mainline RE games to go, and then we got to RE6. I feel like RE7 did a good job of getting us back on the path but RE8 is leading us off towards action and weird convoluted michael bay BS again. I think they could PROBABLY do a RE6 style story which could be interesting, but I really want them to stick to survival horror gameplay.
Everyone should play this game in black and white and/or 4:3 aspect ratio. I do this on PC with NVIDIA filters, not sure if AMD has them too. It makes it feel like an old horror movie! I have a playlist on my channel to give you a taste. Hope everyone can play it like this.
It's a real shame because immediately after, Hardcore balances out to a pretty perfect spot in difficulty. That damn lycan raid though is waaaaaay too overturned to start off hardcore
The game was lackluster to me. The action parts are good, the horror elements lack after Donna Beneviento section. The game wants to be everything for everybody , my least favorite resident evil game.
It's been out for only a week. Chill dude, jeez. This is "HUBER" Syndrome...of course it's gonna be about things he adores and we all know his favorite series is RE.
