Local house burning in my neighbourhood, I was one of the first people on the scene...hot and scary. Brought under control by the local volunteer fire brigade in Cambridge, New Zealand.

As an "Old Fireman" I want to compliment the fire department involved in this fire. They attacked the fire and extinguished it flawlessly. Good Job Brothers.

Well done, great job. And when one considers that 10min before the end of this video, these crews were likely at work, it shows how professional and dedicated volunteers in the NZFS are. And yes, one can argue the risk of roof collapse and the apparent lack of a 360°, but remember this is, after all, a home belonging to a member of their own community, maybe even a neighbour. Once again, well done.

Nice work considering this was a Volunteer FD, they seemed to have a reasonable response time, and with what showed as just 3 guys and 2 handlines, their front interior entry did a nice job of knocking down and pushing this fire right out the back of the house. Was a little concerned about the tile roof starting to let go above them, but them were in and out in amazing time. Congrats to the Cambridge New Zealand VFD for a well placed attack, and making quick work of this fire with your interior attack.

Outstanding work on this fire. Got off the truck with their gear on, quick to get water on the fire and push it back out of the rear of the already involved part of the house. Two men ,and two high pressure lines, can knock a lot of fire down. All you young guys pay attention this was the way it was in the late 60's and early 70's the only problem back then was you did not have hoods all you had were ear flaps and a collar. when you got into something like this burns on your ears and neck were not uncommon.

Look at the roof collapsing on this house. This is a pretty good example of why you should fight visible burning material from the outside to stop the threat and Then, after a thorough look see, go inside to mop up.

JB91710: A large majority of the fire that will cause a roof collapse is not visible. The rafters and other structural elements of a roof are under the sheeting and roofing shingles so these are not being burnt by the visible burning material on the exterior. Burning material inside the attic space is not visible from the exterior. and you can squirt water onto the shingles and get nowhere because it just runs off.

@mikeZL3XD7029 4 года назад
Mate, our fire-fighters can use thier brains and not have to ask thier officer as what to do next. It's called TRAINING. What that FF was using was a High Pressure Hose Reel, straight from the pump. Seriously, I'd find it hard to believe that that lean-to would collapse, I have been in really dodgy buildings on fire over the years. It's all about the assessment from the actual Fire-fighter, we don't need Officers to hold our hands over here.

You got the wrong idea about American firefighting. I worked 33 years in a busy urban department and I don't recall any big mouthed burly men shouting orders. New Zealand is tiny compared to the US.. Further, I believe our fire departments are comparable at least. And we don't let John Q Public loiter around the fireground while firefighters are trying to extinguish a fire. The fire ground is cordoned off either by tape, cones or flares.
