In Tampa Sheriff’s of. Found 19 cars & one had a GSW in the throat. This was in the 90’s & finally the mall that owned the retention pond/called pond-lake got a special permit to fill in the area & leave it to good ole SWFMD to have them build another retention pond & enclose in a barbed wire/chain link fence.
Absolutely correct. They’re usually assumed to have ran away, unfortunately. Then there’s the resource problems. A lot of jurisdictions just don’t have the funds or don’t care to look. Our systems are such shams.
Even though I feel technology wasn't the best in the 70s, they still would have had magnets. Attached to a rope. You would think you would dump it in the water because people do it all the time still today. I find it sad that just people just don't do enough, and they know something's been in the water like come on, somebody had to have seen the car go in the water. You know, I mean the car really looks a bad wreck, like like I don't think that happened going into the water, and there probably wasn't even a rail there in the 70s, just saying my opinion.
@SherylAnneFlint exactly I'm sure at some point within that 50 years we had technology. Like why didn't they check the canal 8 years ago or something sooner than 50 lol. But glad they found the bodies and the vehicles
I lived in Broward county at that time. It was another world. Very rural. Lots of farmland with lots of canals. Deep canals. No guard rails anywhere. North street lights or reflective markings on the road. People disappeared all the time. And they have been finding bodies in the canals, every once in a while for decades. I’m sure there’s a lot more.
Hats off to this reporter. She was very professional, thorough and careful to protect the identity of the victims until the family was notified. Imagine being notified that the bodies of your loved ones have been found after being missing for 50 years. Traumatizing all over again. 💔
In Boca Raton years ago they found a van in the Boca rio road canal after many years. When spotted they pulled it out and found the skeletons of several teenagers who went miisssing years ago. What a shame
There was a carload of kids that drove into a canal at the end of Lox Road right before you get to the Everglades. They all died, except for the girl who was driving. It was a huge story at the time. I lived in pompano. Sometime in the 80s.
I used to drive down that road at night time back in the 1980s when I was in my 20s. Very dark stretch. No street lights and no guard rail. I’m sure there’s more cars in that canal. I do remember people would disappear on a regular basis, and it would be on the news. Not like every month or anything, but it did happen regularly.
, nice story ! When I was younger , I used to dream my crappie older sisters would go out this way - but we never lived in a state with canals. So there's that.
One day somebody is going to come up with technology that can do this to every single body of water. you going to see some nervous people walking around.😅
You can. It's called sonar and another form of technology. They use it all the time. But it's getting people with experience and funding to be able to do this on a regular basis. (But then again.... It depends on the type of water) Submarines can only go so deep .. and they aren't looking for bodies.
Way to go, Sunshine State Sonar, for finding more missing loved ones. I hope they will release the video of the discovery of these vehicles. Thank you for all you do to help these families find closure.
@@goldbars777 No, I've followed the case and the groups that have been searching for them for years. I was born the year they disappeared, and have just always felt emotional about the case.
I used to drive from miami and St. Pete back in the day. I remember they found a women and child in the canal. They were driving in a rain storm back to Tampa in the 80s. They found the car in a canal off Alligator alley a few years ago.
They used to not have guardrails. I remember a storm in Tampa and several cars went into canals, because the roads were flooded and you couldn't tell where the road ended and the canal began.
@@heidiw8406 a lot of canals, lakes and ponds still dont have any barriers 7 years ago i almost drove in to the new stranahan river while driving home from work at 3 in the morning luckily for me i woke up after hitting a patch of rocks that rumbled the set i was only 5feet away from drowning and ending up like these people ive seen and known many who have died from drowning after their cars ended up in one of these bodies of water late at night or in the morning when no ones around
There’s this girl that went missing in plant city almost 5 years ago and my wife swears that her husband must’ve thrown her in lake nothing was ever found from her she left everything at home when she went missing
@@PaulPirkkala um in Florida they sure do et canal fish lol ive seen a lot of people eat bass and tilapia from South and central Florida canals hell theres many youtube channels dedicated to just that
Could have been a murder suicide. They could have been killed before the water hit. Who knows. Suicide is scary in my opinion. Those are lost souls in that water. I'm just saying
They were looking because South Florida has hundreds of miles of canals. Back in the 70s, there were lots of roads along canals with no street lights, guard, rails, or even pavement markings. You had to really pay attention at night, especially if it was raining. every once in a while, people with disappeared without a trace. Every once in a while, somebody would find a car with bodies in a canal. For two and two together. There’s probably more cars and bodies in the canals. That’s why they look. And I can say this, the way people don’t pay attention today, if the roads in South Florida were the same today as they were back in the 70s, people would be disappearing every day.
@@willbart1236 they still dont have lights that show canals at night but a lot do have guard rails now but many still dont i almost drove into a river one night in Coral Spring on my way home from work at around 3 am and i know many people who have died from their cars going into canals they need to be way more guard rails and they need to cover the whole length of the body of water and not just parts of it also need to put them on the high ways to many people go into retention ponds and lakes along our highways here in Florida
So true. I wonder where this station gets their information. They start with breaking news and the reporter says this just in. I guess I should not follow this station for my breaking news.
There are a few groups that search waterways nationwide and recover cars and people. Some unfortunately are people that purposely ended their lives. Others, accidents and some possibly victims of crime.
@@arielsea9087 since its so many in one area more than likely like in many cases here in Florida it was an accident/ sleepy, driver, medical episode, or bad weather that no body saw or wanted to get involved in
They didnt have the equipment 50 yrs ago . The equipment is too expensive for police stations to buy plus training people for it , thankfully companies/people like this offer their time and services for free
I wonder if anyone nearby had any paranormal experiences? My niece, her husbsnd and two children were living in a newly rented house when they suddenly started having strange experiences. One event was a salt shaker that started that started shaking by itself while sitting on a counter. Nothing else was moving and no vibrations from passing trucks or anything like that. Another time, the niece had her two little ones in the bath when she left to get something. While out of the bathroom the little ones started screaming because something had turned the shower on them. As it was explained to me, the little ones weren't able to have done it to themselves. They had other experiences until one day when first responders/ ambulance showed up at a housr next door. An old man had been living there and had been found dead. He had been dead a few days or more.
She was trying to have some levity about the situation. It's also not uncommon for people to start smiling or laughing when they're uncomfortable (hence "funeral giggles").
Why was the canal checked? Was the car in a place in the water, that you can actually see it? Or did someone give an anonymous tip, that there was a car in a canal?
That’s where my dad went when he promised to go out for smokes and never came back, wow. I barely recognized him it’s been so long but with the barrel and the water it’s gotta be him, he always tried to drown me and drank from barrels often, hopefully he’s in pieces, he abandoned us
Not every community had the resources or knowledge to search & pull vehicles from the water. Volunteers and technology is making that possible at this time. There are many vehicles in waterways.
@@josephreilman8527 Yeah you’re correct. Lost a couple cast nets because of rocks😂 But the canal that runs along SR84 definitely still has some clues for families still wondering…

they never check these places when it happen, may not of had the stuff to do it but there had to be tracks going in the water, im glad these people are doing this to help people find peace in knowing what happen
