I like it! I have an AR in 7.62x39 and another in 6.5 Grendel. I didn't know there was a conversion route, so thank you. I have a few brass 7.62x39 cases (I forget the brand.) that roll up the brass at the base like you showed, it seems to do it less so with Imperial Sizing Wax than with Lanolin/Alcohol or Pledge Furniture Polish (Washes away very clean.) as the lube.
Just remember, after brass if formed, fireformed etc, and a bullet installed, the round might still not fit the chamber. Reason is the brass is thicker than the grendel when a bullet is loaded into the brass. Neck turning might work. I have two grendels. One has no problem with converted brass, the other will not feed the round due to brass thickness. So--- I don't use converted brass in it.
Do you need to first fire form the 7.62 brass after sizing using minimal powder charge? And if that IS the case then it means you have to spend money for bullet and powder to fire one first round which is not perfect one, and now it is not cheap brass anymore.. so? Also if I’m correct the 7.62 brass is thicker in some places and will result in higher pressure than Grendel brass with same powder charge. Those are my 2 concerns , let me know if you don’t agree with any of those
Never a problem in my experience, I form 6.5 Creedmoor from 308 and I thought I would have to at least neck turn the cases. No way, I just form them, trim and anneal and load them up. My Savage 12FV holds .5moa with them using starting charges.
Also, I like video but what is the point in doing this conversion? It’s not like 7.62x39 brass is all over and cheap. I just buy American gunner Hornady ammo for 70cent per round, fire it, and reuse its Grendel brass.
This is for people who are smart enough to pay only $0.18 a case for military 7.62x39 brass and $12 a pound powder. But after looking at your video I can see there is no amount of money that you likely consider unreasonable to fix a problem.
B4Ctom1 which powder for $12/lbs? The best performance (highest FPS) powder according to Hornady manual is CFE223 and that one is &19/lbs. and AK once fired brass is more like 23 cent realistically.
Or you could just pick up 7.62x39 brass at the range. Then it’s free, and Bam, brass problem solved. Or work at a gun shop and tell them you want to “clean” the gun testing room. Lol at least that’s how I do it.
Yes, the extractors are slightly different and may not remove the Russian round. So, if using an AR platform, change the bolt head to one for the 7.62x39 case.
