Hi!
In this video, I show you how I voided the warranty on a brand new nylon watch band by resizing it myself.
Enjoy!

I agree, there is a satisfaction about fixing something yourself. For me, that's the thing with sewing. You make a great point about waste generation in our society. Well done Jason! 👍

A good fix. If your watch can use regular watch pins instead of the fancy latch, you could scratch make a few bands. Or replace the band on another watch. I had a replacement band years ago that was just a strip to thread over/under/over the watch through the pins (which would block your particular sensor watch) and velcro at the end. It worked fine when I had it. I should look and try to find that watch and give it a new band ...

The hardware attaches to standard pins, so a DIY is definitely possible. At some point I might do that, but at this point I wanted to take advantage of the hardware (partly because I have too many projects that I want to finish before my big run in May lol - I wasn't even planning on resizing the darn thing 😂). That's one of the fun things about sewing and other DIY stuff, though; there are so many options to make, modify, improve, re-do ... the fun never stops :) Thanks for being part of the channel!

"Sewing People of the Internet"! That makes me smile, every time! Great job on the Mod! Q: What mat is that you are using your hot knife on?? I always just grab a piece of glass I have. That looks simpler! Q2: Random... Have you ever sharpened your seam rippers? I have been practicing on the cheapo 20 pack ones, before I try it on my better ones. I bought a piece of round leather cord , glued it to a board, added some compound and strop it. I think it helps, but the verdict is still out!

Hey! My cutting mat is an old aluminum sign from the building where I work. Literally just something that was lying around. Glass might be better(?) but I won't break this when I drop it lol. Funny you should ask about sharpening a seam ripper, I briefly tried with a small round file but didn't have much luck. It would be very nice to be able to sharpen them, because often (as you no doubt know) that's the thing that renders them no longer useful, and I hate throwing away stuff like that. I like your idea, I wonder if there is an abrasive cord that would be the right diameter ...? Good to hear from you, thanks for watching and commenting!

Awesome! I end up modifying stuff that I buy as well. I thought you would have attempted to put the woven label back on the band as well. None the less, awesome job! The poor little fish at the end! LOL!

Thanks! I thought about putting the label on, honestly I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to American flag-themed labels, etc. - to my understanding, they are almost always in violation of the US Flag Code. I probably wouldn't have removed it if I weren't going to the trouble of resizing the band, but it didn't bother me to ditch it. It would have been a nice level-up move to put it back on, though! Fortunately, the fish got back in the water a little dirty and with a story to tell his mates that they will never believe and probably still make fun of him for to this day :) Thanks for being part of the channel!

I have the same watch... the silicon band does get a bit annoying at times... would there have been ay straps or webbing in the wonderful grab bag of stuff you got a while back - the parachute static line or such...? all little projects are great too, as well as big projects...

Thanks David! I actually thought about making my own band, but the attachment hardware influenced me to buy instead. I might make a video about this soon, but I actually recently bought a webbing MOLLE bottle carrier for the fishing sling pack I made. Ever since I started down the sewing path, I have tried really hard to never buy something I can make, but the bottle carrier (which I bought at the same Army surplus store as the webbing bundle) was $10, and would have taken me at least a couple of hours to make. Sometimes you just can't beat the economies of scale lol. It can be hard to make the decision to buy instead of build, but I guess sometimes we have to admit when the right choice is to buy. This watch band illustrates the point that even when you do buy, it's good to have the skills and tools to modify as needed! Thanks for being part of the channel!
