This is the 6th in a series of videos geared toward the person who has never worked with CAD or CAM before.
In this video, we’ll revisit resizing vectors in the Vectric software. We’ll start with resizing and object to a known size, we’ll get into resizing to an unknown size, then I’ll demonstrate resizing from the center of the object, and copying an object.

Your training is absolutely first-rate. After I found this series, I started with the first video and I plan on working my way through the series. I am new to CNC and at this point, I don't know what I don't know. This series is filling in those knowledge gaps in a logical sequence.

Been using VCP since version 6 and still learned something from this video, Quick copying. Had always used mirror before (or offset)

Thanks very much, Graham! I think it was a new feature in version 8.5, but I could be wrong. I had been using the mirror function as well. It was mentioned in passing in one of the Vectric tutorials, but I thought it was worth highlighting in this video. Thanks for watching!

Your videos are highly educational and VERY well done. Vectric should be kissing your rear for what you have done for them. In many ways better presented than any of their videos. Very step by step and exceedingly clear.Thank you very very much for your effort. Not many like you on youtube. You should contact Vectric or visa versa, to be their agent in Oregon. ( you did say you lived in southern OR. did you not. ). They would have a hard time finding anyone better.

My husband & I are VERY new to CNC. Just purchased a Yeti Smartbench. I'd love to understand how to IMPORT a photograph to create a memorial image of my son's dog who passed away. Would you be able to expand on this please? I am desperately trying to design a cabinet Cathedral Door, however there are multiple sizes of doors. I would like to create one door with Cathedral shape for the top-rail but have it proportionally resize correctly for all door sizes. When I resize it doesn't keep the same style and rail dimensions. Is there a way to do this? Thank you

Great videos, they are helping me. But how do I go from saving the tool paths, create G code to the machine and actually start carving? I can’t seem to do it and I can’t seem to find any videos on that. Thank you. Brian in Texas.

Thank you, Brian. I covered calculating toolpaths and saving g-code in Part 4 of this series. Here's a link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kFIkyl8tUFU.html Once you've saved the g-code to a flash drive and are ready to take it out to the CNC, it's all dependent on which machine or control software you have. This is why I've never done a video on the topic - there are too many variables. Each machine brand is different. Each control software is different. I've used Mach3 and Mach4, but that's all. So, as a result, that's the only control software I know. I would highly recommend you go to your machine manufacturer or control software publisher's website and look for a link to their Support Forum or Support Community. Those folks know your machine/software best because they use them. I would only be guessing, and I'd hate to send you down the wrong path.

The only problem i have with vectric is it doesnt use costraints lets say you've got an offset inside those vectors of 50mm when resizing it doesn't keep that offset it scales that distance between vectors

I'm going on 4 years with my Xylotex drive box, and it's still working just great. Dave Gatton still recommends them, and that's good enough for me.

Being a SketchUp novice , I see a lot of similar operations for vectric and SU. So with Skeichup there is a copy operation that can make multiple copies based on the number you enter during that operation. Does VCarve have that same capability? Like doing a flag, can you make 52 stars in one copy operation?

Yes there is. I did a couple of videos on just such an operation, using Linear Arrays. Marc, I recently created some text for a sign and the numbers do not vertically align with each other. For example if I type “6695”, the sixes will be vertically higher than the nine and the five. I am using a Lucida true type font. In addition, I am noticing a dotted blue at the bottom of the numeric sixes. Can you tell me what is going on here? I should mention that I am a beginner. I just purchased my CNC ( Pirrannha XL) a couple of weeks ago. Thank you. Joe

Thanks for checking out the video, Joe. You're not doing anything wrong. The blue underline is the text placement box. You'll see it under all text as you're first typing and placing it. It disappears as soon as you click CLOSE. The number sixes being higher than the other numerals is just how that font was designed. As a test, type the digits from 1 through 9 in a line, and you'll see that some of the digits look like they're higher up the screen than others. That's just a style characteristic of that particular font. If you want to line them up, you'll have to either do them as 2 different text boxes, or convert the text to curves and adjust them manually.

Is it possible to increase size in a percent of the original, say 20% larger?

Yes it is. Just remember that the percentages are relative to the object's current size. First, figure out the percentage you want to increase the size by, then add 100% to it. For example, if you want to increase by 20%, you would use 120%. Select the object, and go into Set Object Size. In that form, make sure you have Link X Y checked. In either the X or Y column, go to the % field, and set it to that 120%. Click APPLY, and the object will increase in size by 20% percent. If you want to reduce the size by 20%, subtract that percentage from 100 (in this example, 100% - 20%= 80%,) and enter that in the percentage field. Click APPLY, and it's done.
