Resolution of my Histamine Intolerance

For many years I had a histamine intolerance induced skin issue which produced rather prominent red welts on my face.
That skin issue is now largely gone.
Again, I go back to the concept of grounding and how PRI addresses this issue.
As my vision and feet have now been addressed, my ability to sense the ground and pronate has increased.
As a result, my tension has decreased.
My guess is that my inability to sense the ground led to years and years of increased tension. Actually, this I'm completely sure of.
In turn, this increased tension drove excessive inflammation, as I reacted to foods and oils that under normal circumstances I would not have.
As my sympathetic nervous system tension decreased, so has my reactivity to those same foods and oils that used to make me break out.
Hey there, my name is Neal Hallinan.
The purpose of this channel is to help people understand and resolve chronic muscular and joint pain, primarily through the discipline of Postural Restoration.
As someone who lived with chronic pain for many years of my life, I know how debilitating and isolating it can be. But I also know it can be resolved.

For those who are confused: He started with his histamine story which sounded like certain foods was placing extra strain on his body. Then he went into his story about taking care of the extra tension on his body. Conclusion, by elimating the major thing that was putting his body out of balance, the foods he was experiencing the most issue with no longer caused as much of an issue. If ur body is comprimised, it can affect other systems. Now his body can put more emphasis on day to day functions, and what was once a major issue is not so much so. He found the root cause to his ailments. Hopefully that helps.

Interesting video. The fact you're a detective is very good and will serve you well. I'm older and I can't tell you how many food and environmental issues I've had and figured out like you have over the years. The way I reacted to the environment, and what works has changed over the years. One thing I discovered that was a root cause or exacerbated a whole bunch of issues was water-damaged buildings (or older buildings pier/beam, etc). 25% of the population reacts adversely to moldy buildings.

honestly at first I thought you were crazy (sorry) but then I remember I used to be able to eat anything. I only began to have trouble when I began to have serious stress. So this is something to really consider. Thank you!

I too have noticed the correlation between posture correction and histamine intolerance. As my posture worsened I became a classic spring allergy sufferer (I did skin prick test, so it's 100% confirmed). This didn't make sense to me at first but as the symptoms occurred only for a few months of the year, so I always ignored it and kept focusing on the posture which was giving me so much more trouble. Long story short, although the pollen concentration in the area in the spring period remained the same, my pollen allergy magically vanished after getting better with my posture. Also, now I no longer need to take antihistamines which also caused to me some side effects such as brain fog.

Your arches on both feet are acupressure points for your stomach, so makes sense by supporting and having that pressure on your arches helped your digestion.

This is so crazy to me. I am dealing with the same thing and really relate to the part at the end about the sugar intolerance. I thought I was about to be diabetic until I was diagnosed with a histamine intolerance. Thank you for this! Grounding helps with inflammation which seems to be the root cause of so many things. I'll definitely try this

I have histamine related issues also so have been readnig about it. I suggest your read about the MTFHR gene and possible methylation problems and another totally different possible root cause: mold in the air you breath. Have read about people that have both of these issues causing major histamine problems.

I am on a histamine journey myself. I went on the carnivore diet to eliminate all possible foods other than meat. It has been a game changer. I have started to look at a low histamine diet. I am carefully trying foods for compatibility. Interesting theories.

it's about how your brain processes incoming stimuli. the issue could be "biomechanical" like in OP's case, or it can be biochemical (deficiencies) ... and maybe, like you said, for some it could be neurocognitive but in my experience it happens very rarely and it is way overrepresented in the medical system where they attribute everything they don't understand to "anxiety" just so they can put you on drugs that will cause severe imbalance or at best, send you to years of "therapy". I know many people who went down that route and ended up sicker and sicker.

Bingo! You nailed it! I too have been experiencing severe eczema. And at the same time I just got heard polyvagal Theory. Everything has to do with your vagus nerve and people don't understand that your eyes are a component two vagus nerve health. I am working through this and the symptoms are easing up. I'm not there yet but the more I control the vagus nerve and bring that to a place of equanimity I better I feel. Avast for sugar it is incredibly harmful to my system. I usually eat very healthy diet. Leafy vegetables very little in the way we or carbs I cut those out years ago. I am taking a supplement called Gut ion health. And a natural antihistamine quercetin. I know this post is a year old but I hope you have since found full relief. Thank you for sharing it has helped me immensely

Been checking out videos on the CARNIVORE DIET which is high in meat and lots of people said in the comments that it cured their ECZEMA. Maybe you should take a look. At the moment I am suffering from hives just on my left leg, outer thigh and calf. Thought at first it was bites from insects.

I also had skin issues! One on each forearm, one on my right oblique, and one on my right hamstring. I had them for months and while having better sense to the ground with the right shoes and doing pri techniques they were all gone! I also used to eat 2 hours after waking up with no appetite and now I wake up hungry! PRI is changing my life. I am so grateful, and thank you neal for your effort.

@@bcorreal I might have been wrong and I think this channel means PRI postural restoration institute. From this video I learned that tending to some comfort assistance can aid in healing. Like anything that irritates you try to relieve. Wearing the right glasses, wearing insoles with real arch supports, don't spend 2 days in bed all day (get up and move some), take supplements regularly, cut out itchy tags from your shirts, relieving allergy symptoms, identify irritated skin and sooth the rash. I have fibromyalgia so without a cure I finally decided to chase down symptoms. Along the way I found a low histamine diet is very helpful, if you were interested. But this channel has several videos on a number of posture anomalies concerning pelvic tilts. So they do exercises to correct their posture. I asked some PTs about it but they were not at all helpful for my anterior pelvic tilt. Hope some of this helps.

Awesome video with a significant point and amazing story. There was a real reason, but below were surface reasons and symptoms. Experts on surface reasons and symptoms refuse to try understand what you mean and yield to the truth. They look at your education vs their own and keep pointing to statistics and hinting that you should listen to them. It's in many cases how the world works today. I can relate to the dominating right eye. Developed when a small boy as part of my body language saying "I am watching closely". Thanks for sharing.

Try a Palaeolithic Ketogenic Diet or a Carnivore Diet. If you aren’t into eating organ meats, look at supplementing with Bovine organ supplements, ideally New Zealand Grass Fed & Grass Finished. Kidney is high in DAO which helps with Histamine Metabolism, as well as having a good balance of micronutrients such as Zinc and Copper. Liver is good too! Do this on top of an animal based diet and you should see some positive results!

@@helenndow1101 A red meat only diet can cure Gout. Look up Mikayla Peterson Carnivore Diet. I promise you, I have heard of many, many people who have cured their gout through a beef, salt and water diet.

Thank you for this. Doctors and friends think I am crazy. I have been dizzy for two months and it started after extreme stress and panic attacks over a break up, moving, child custody changes, heavy drinking ( beer only ) and working outside in the hot summer daily. Thought it was sinus infections, a stroke, etc., but I also started noticing that when I tried to drink even one beer all the sudden my head would feel full and I felt like I had a cold and then horrible headaches, stomach cramps, and the dizziness got worse! Also, the doctor said I am low on magnesium and prescribed over the counter supplements, so i am taking those, but they make me sick so not sure what to do about that. So now I am taking a histamine blocker DOA enzyme ( 4th day) we’ll see! And trying to eat a low histamine diet. Helps but still dizzy or off balance even, but not as bad. I noticed that when I stress out about what is going on the reactions get way worse!!!! So anyway I am going to try to lower stress, work out again, buy new shoes! Grounding etc Also I’m 9th grade I broke out in hives everytime someone would touch me so it became a joke to thump my arm or scratch your name in my arm with your finger nail and wait on the welts to pop up. It would stay for a while. That lasted for months and just went away with no rhyme or reason other than just allergies or hormones or something, but now thinking back. It’s when my parents got divorced. Maybe a coincidence. Who knows. Anyway thank you!!! And good luck and thanks to everyone who comments too! It’s helpful to have others to talk to! We’re not crazy! Maybe a little, but this is a real thing!!

Jane, yes, I've had tension from when I was very little, there's both a genetic and environmental component to it. I had screwed up my system to bedbound and sensitive to literally everything when I took adaptogenic herbs and drugs were even worse. Psychology didn't help either. I tested to have issues with B6 metabolism that doesn't work in my body and magnesium, taurine and potassium loss. Many things actually. Interestingly, I also have myopia and flatter arches like the OP, plus scoliosis.

Recently i have been doing vestibular therapy and we focus on eye and neck exercises Oddly my food sensitivity has gone down with healing the vestibular system It makes sense once you study these mechanisms

The weird thing about histamine intolerance is that it affects everyone differently. I didn't have much of a skin issue, but it affected me neurologically (brain fog, poor sleep, muscle twitches). I also developed a thing called "Globus sensation". The feeling of having a lump in your throat, yet nothing's there. I was drinking Kombucha tea and eating Kimchi every day. Once I stopped all of that, most of my symptoms went away.

Ah, that is interesting. I did lots of histamine research. I feel so bad for some people whose entire life has to revolve around avoiding any hint of histamine. I realized my problem was minor in comparison.

@@NealHallinan Breaking out in hives is no day at the beach, but luckily we can treat our issues and slowly start reintroducing these things back into our diets, gradually. My Mom would have horrible rashes whenever she ate aged cheeses.

I have/ had the same issue, i felt like something stuck in my throat but when i was drinking water that went down without any issue. I visited many doctors and in the end after SGT test turned out i have leaking gut+ histamine intolerance. I started to do a diet with food which has lower histamine level + probiotics and prebiotics. I am getting better.

I am suffering from histamine intolerance. My main symptom is that it is making me awake all night unless I take a benzodiazepine. I react mostly to seafood.

How are you doing? I take Benadryl before bedtime and Famotidine 20 mg. Zyrtec in the morning. I just started on a probiotic for histamine intolerance. I learned that not all probiotics are good for people with this problem. Right now without these meds I will break out in hives, my blood pressure will rise and I get intense anxiety caused from this.

@@bornwin-sx9oz Study about DAO/HNMT and the MTHFR gene mutation that causes methylation problems whih will affect histamine levels(among many other things). That can be one root cause as can be things like mold in the air you breath.

I woke up at 1230 last night, thought it was time to get up. Couldn't go back to sleep so I took a Benadryl (hate taking these) and went outside and grounded for about 20m. I def went back to sleep but woke up groggy and I'm still trying to get moving. Anybody try cetirizine?

Neal, thanks for all your content, it’s been extremely useful to me. I’ve had a very specific intolerance for years (casein, and the A1 form, so most cow dairy basically). Since starting my PRI journey a few months ago I’ve noticed it significantly improve. Of course anecdotal and n=1 but it’s very curious to observe the change after years of nothing else affecting it. I could definitely buy there being a link. Keep up your good work!

been thinking about this for a few days. stress and trauma can create holes in the blood brain barrier. allergies are related to leaky gut... in a PRI context, your brain believes you are in trouble when you're stuck in a pattern. psychologically this is stressful and can weaken that barrier over time. this may account for the histamine intolerance although I have also considered compensatory muscle use inhibiting proper lymph movement/detox. additionally I think ADHD has quite a bit to do with trauma and can see different neurological effects when consuming certain foods like bone broth and coffee, bc of different mechanics with the blood brain barrier.

NOO! ADHD is NOT brain fog and mental slowness caused by nutrient deficiencies, yeast, histamine, trauma, etc… that’s EXTREMELY ableist, ignorant, and insulting to say. We are born with the neurodivergence of ADHD which is the same set of genes as autism but expressed differently, and it’s symptoms are having a hyperactive mind a that does not shut up regardless of mood, that gets louder the more quiet the environment is, heightened senses, emotions, and empathy, sensory and auditory processing disorders, limited working memory, time blindness, executive function problems including, and difficulty starting and switching between tasks, and falling in the uncanny valley. And most of us actually get sleepy from stimulants like coffee and adderall, they don’t help at all. And all of that is just the tip of the iceberg. I was born very neurodivergent, and I have also been extremely health conscious and I’ve never eaten processed foods and not taken all of the vitamins and minerals. There is a MAJOR difference between neurodivergence and an unhealthy neurotypical. I’m addition to being born with many neurodivergences I have also developed CPTSD from how extremely traumatizing my childhood and early life was, and I used to have very bad brain fog for many years until I healed it, because the damage that trauma does to the brain is completely reversible, meanwhile, no neurodivergence can be changed. And when my brain was foggy it was still hyperactive!! The automatic voice was still running at hyper speed thinking for and by itself but the active voice was very weak and slow and foggy as was my memory. So once again, the extremely ableist and ignorant rhetoric of diminishing and purposely misunderstanding and spreading lies about the heavily documented neurodivergence of ADHD must end right now. Our lives are already hard enough because of how this neurodivergence is also a disability in every way.

I have ADHD and I don't think its necessarily a disorder. there's a connection between stress and adhd and also stress and autoimmune. this is the best way I understand myself. my brain also goes a mile a minute and it can be addicted to stimulus, addicted to thinking. going fast is mostly a boon. it just manages to cope with trauma in new and interesting ways. I think some of the symptoms you describe are not necessarily ADHD but a response of the ADHD (aka sensitive) brain to trauma.

@@MagikarpPower If you don’t fully relate to all of these symptoms then you just have fully reversible post trauma brain damage, not the neurodivergence and disability of ADHD, as ADHD is a BORN and complete brain mutation which must entail all of the symptoms which I stated since the very beginning of life. And neurodivergence CAUSES trauma! Not the other way around. People always bully and abuse us because we are different and we make people feel uneasy because of how we are different in countless, constant, overt and covert ways, even down to the body language. And neurodivergent women like myself are significantly more likely to be hyper-sexualized and sexually harassed and assaulted beginning from very young ages. I was BORN with extremely sensitive ears and eyes that darted around the room, I was never normal. And if you were born normal then whatever happened to parts of your brain is fully reversible, many people have done it. ADHD is NOT an “addiction” to stimuli, it’s the desperate need for it because that’s how our brain is wired! Neurotypicals only fidget when they are nervous, while neurodivergents NEED to stim and fidget and sway in order to prevent not just getting nervous but from panicking, because that is how much we are wired to need sensory stimulation. And I have always been able to hear electricity, and all of the small and loud sounds and actions in a room all at once, where the smaller sounds are actually louder than the loud ones, to the point of the electricity being a sharp, stabbing pain, that used to be excruciating when I was smaller. Auditory and sensory processing disorders plus heightened senses and emotions are an inextricable part of real ADHD. The academics are trying to change the name of this neurodivergence to dopamine disregulation disorder because the term ADHD is not descriptive enough, and does NOT take into account how we react to and process all forms of stimuli differently than the neurotypical, and even have been documented to have different metabolic processes and a higher sensitivity to light than a neurotypical. Your brain is NOT hyperactive brain, nor have you described anything about the ADHD properly at all. You don’t have the neurodivergence of ADHD at all, and even if you were ever diagnosed then you were an obvious misdiagnosis, as 50% of ADHD diagnoses are misdiagnoses, especially those given to children, because doctors refuse to listen, despite everything we say being exceptionally consistent, and the brain scans, academics, and scientists proving that we are telling the truth. The dusregulation and fog that trauma causes are fully reversible, the experts on CPTSD recovery have proven that, meanwhile, no neurodivergence can ever be changed. We are BORN with the brain mutations of dyslexia, autism, Tourette’s, and ADHD, no force or trauma or pill can ever change a neurotypical to a neurodivergent or vice versa. You can look up Michelle Lee Nieves, Pete Walker, and the Crappy Childhood Fairy for first hand accounts and methods of reversing trauma brain damage via strengthening the hippocampus and re-centering the brain back to its original state, whatever that original state was. It is true that stress is a massive contributor to these types of issues - your body is taking in so much information from the world around us, your feet should be able to sense as much as your eyes can, that's why the vivo barefoot adverts talk about the design of your feet being incredible

I recently discovered histamine intolerance regarding mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS). As I understand it, mast cells are immune cells in the connective tissues that can release histamines. I have a lot of tension in my body due to poor posture and usage patterns over my lifetime. I believe this elevates histamine levels to the point that dietary histamines interfere with my sleep and digestion, etc. So this video makes sense if this is correct.

Same here. Then one day i read a study on how a specific antihistamine (Zantac) for gastric issues was prescribed off label for psoriasis. A light💡went off in my head that if I tried an antihistamine (Xyzal) that it may have a similar effect and Bingo! My skin cleared up with a week and blotchy skin gone. It makes sense that if you have a system with high levels of histamine that you can at least block its availability on your system.

Covid caused a huge histamine release in my body. It started with an insane itch and urticaria, combined with an electric sound and sensation in my head. Then nausea for three months and fatigue for several months. Huge, itchy red patches appeared on my skin after a while and they have stayed on my body for several months. I ordered DAO (Di Amine Oxidase) enzyme pills that break down histamine and Quercetin, and those red patches disappeared in 5 days after starting taking these two supplements. I also feel much better, after being weak and without energy for months. I had a long period of cognitive problems as well, I couldn´t remember which day of the week it was, and I couldn´t organise or plan anything or find things in my house. After 7 months, I´m not yet over my covid, and I suspect that the start dose of virus was unusually high, because we had unvaccinated workers in my house before the covid. I suffer from birch pollen allergy, food allergies and histamine intolerance. I also found that I´m sensitive to house dust (cat, down blanket?), so the next day after the house cleaning I get painful mouth sores.

Thanks for my favorite topic! I’m trying to figure out the same stuff for many years, pri techniques help me tremendously, no doubt. I also made all these weird tests but all is bull crap, just keep each cup not over, a cup of gluten, lactose, and histamine rich foods. Moderation is really key, you can eat everything but mindfully. My last conclusion that I’m on these days is that skin issues come from lungs problems. My left foot and left chain under the left lung just high-jacked (can’t sense the ground). Optics and orthotics also help to ground but don’t solve the root issue with my damaged lung from many years of smoking (10years), breathing in in the very toxic environments, and heavy metal fumes at work in the past. Now when I try to clean out my left lung with quality salts (pink, celtic, etc.) essential oils and cold exposure my skin breaks down very badly. I also figure out how to heal my damaged long thoracic nerve related to left winging scapula and whether foods actually impact the healing process or not. Mostly foods that heal lungs (like hot spices, onions, stringent fruits) cause skin breakdowns like itchy rashes and flare-ups. The least evil in my case in clearing the lung is by breathing through pri techniques, very true

From a foot reflexology chart, the adrenal gland points are in or next to the foot arch area, perhaps this is part of the puzzle of your foot orthotics and histamine response? The adrenal glands produce cortisol, which is a strong anti-inflammatory hormone

I think epigenetics also play a role. Before COVID I was very healthy. In the start of COVID, I stopped exercising, became more stressed, developed poor posture, joint pain, and a whole bunch of digestive issues. I still have most of these problems now, as well as dysautonomia. I'm now getting checked out for potential autoimmune diseases. My sister also has such issues, just a lot worse. Honestly, I better fix my health now, otherwise I might become disabled :(

I will go even a step further, switching to glasses rather than contacts has made a big difference to the last remaining items that would still cause blemishes. I can’t say why, except that glasses change my brain’s perception of visual space in a way that contacts don’t. Expanded space = relaxation.

@@NealHallinan Pretty sure shoes have nothing to do with the root cause, but can be a stessor that triggers the issues. Many things can trigger it but root cause is probably something deeper causing the high histamine in the first place. Mold is one cause I have heard many people mention and another big one is MTHFR gene mutations that cause problems with mehtylation and that ties directly to histamine levels (and levels of other things like dopamine, serotonin etc). Read about that methylation and DAO/HNMT and how one can help that with food and suplements if its the issue.

I'm certainly not an expert on all that, however gluten and sugar are know to be inflammatory in nature. Some people can't eat much of it. If your body can't handle a certain food, it will cause alarm and likely put you into a state of fight or flight/ tension.

I have also found that I react to gluten, maybe I´m gluten sensitive, because small amounts of it is OK, but pancakes and pasta are not, because they make my blood sugar crash totally for a couple of hours.

Having gone through the same histamine intolerance learning curve I feel pretty confident that your issues were and remain primarily food/exposure related, as are mine. I definitely do not discount that there are other environmental, neural and cognitive factors involved, only that diet and exposure are the key ingredients to resolving histamine intolerance. Today I can eat many foods that would cause immediate distress, although I still abstain from coffee, even decaf. Fragrance free glycerin soap, crystal deodorant, beeswax and olive oil are the only things that I use on my skin. One cannot eliminate environmental exposure completely but something as simple as chemical soap or shampoo or skin cream can powerfully affect histamine response, particularly with repeated exposure. So kudos on your successful journey, but don't fool yourself, those intolerances and their causes are all still there in diet and exposure.

Thank you for this video. I find that I my HIT Symptoms are not as bad in the summer. In the summer I’m playing sports, and drinking water. The Vit D from the sun prolly helps too. But if I eat certain foods like spinach, tomatoes, avocados, and spicy foods then my skin flares up. I was wondering what does your daily diet consist of? This might sound silly but do you wear your shoes in the house too? Or walk barefoot?

I have to say, this was the most bogus nonsense video Ive seen in a while, yet I am glad you found something which helps you. In the end I wanted to say, or ask, did you try supplementing copper before? All your issues might come from a copper deficiency. Just search on youtube and youll find some great videos explaining it. Too much stress can reduce copper, so maybe, just maybe, after you fixed your feet and eyes issues, that reduced stress and cortisol levels, and then balanced out copper up take again. Copper deficiency causes histamine intolerance, because your body cant produce the enzyme it needs to break down histamine.

We must be patient as people "learn" what is happening to them a result of having elemental issues. I HTMA test most of my clients who get it so they can figure out IF they are copper deficient, some are copper excessive, most, don't under food products/food drugs as mentioned "pizza" is not "food." Histamine excess issues that produce skin elimination symptoms can also be derived from immune-stimulating intestinal parasites. The most important thing as a Medicine Woman of 38 years and Shaman, is, the journey! People are learning. I recommend they ALL do the HTMA and not just exclusively do serum blood testing. When they finally realize they are made of these elements, they have been domesticated and they are manipulated into industry funnels they wake up and they make the change, or, they go back to sleep (into the fog). Love, kindness, and patience - people are overwhelmed with the newest "operation," saturating their every waking moment with fear and incomprehensible 'attempts' to control of their every movement.

I have always wondered why I could wear a T-shirt during the winter, when other people had warm clothes on and they still complained about the inadequate heating at school or workplaces. I believe it´s genetic in my case.

My skin have changed dramatically I even have scars. It's itching and looks like urticaria. Sometimes is over my entire body. Funny, but the itching it's intense on my knees and ears. I also lost my eyebrows and I'm starting to think it might be histamine, after the past 3,4 years with those issues. None of the doctors I have visited didn't found out what's wrong. I love drinking beer and I have noticed some connection.

Wow. I have histamine intolerance and have been breaking out on my skin several places on my body for the past year. After listening to your podcast I realized that simultaneous to my skin outbreaks starting I had injured my feet in ballet. I've been increasingly reacting to more foods. I do yoga and meditation, have a pretty stress free life. Don't know how I could get more grounded. Suggestions?

Interesting. When I lived in the sunshine for a year in Australia the skin issue cleared up 95%. I have sugar in black coffee in the mornings and I'm trying to cut it out. If I cut out sugar then I can't drink the coffee. I also think its related to uric acid too because men have higher levels than women prior to women's menopause. Uric acid is elevated if and when a person is stressed although there are other factors. I'm just reading a book by Dr Ben Lynch on histamine intolerance, its a lot to take in with the new science. I'm being checked for any mineral deficiencies too. Although the Human Genome Project discovered that cuts in childhood mutates a gene that then is the cause of allergies and skin conditions. The science for that was published in New Scientist, May 7 issue, 2006.

histamine competes with norepinephrine for copper, ssri and snri's prevent the normal histamine metabolism, going off anti-depressants your body dumps histamine and there for copper, that is where the brain zaps come from not enough copper to produce norepinephrine. At least this is what I figured out for my issue. I don't get rashes just a stress response from eating most foods. Medical doctors are useless. Low copper is a common issue for folks with cptsd and or adhd.... the catalyst in my case. It didn't help that they had me on 4 drugs targeting the same serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine receptors.

I have many videos talking about "ground and space". Summary: when the brain acknowledges visual space appropriately, you'll have the ground underneath you. If you lose visual space (any type of visual disorder or uncorrected vision), you'll lose the ground.
