I'm 65 now. When I was a teen you could marry in Mississippi at age 14 without parental consent. I grew up in Alabama. In HS a 14 yo pregnant teen married her 17 yo boyfriend. She was pregnant and her parents signed. Still at our class reunions they are awarded the longest married couple! She even got a teaching degree and he finished law school. They had huge support from family tho.

I watched my daughter be nearly destroyed by a music teacher that was so jealous ( because she was so jealous of my daughters private voice teacher-which we had known nothing about.) and vengeful that she actually contacted my daughter college and sabotaged her music education career. My daughter found out two years after the fact because she was all of a sudden not allowed to enter into her degree program right away, nor were the scholarships she was going to be given awarded to her. She ended up trying to work two jobs to support herself for school but it ended making her so sick that she had to drop out. Then, she as told, " You really should not be working and you need more private performance and teaching hours, because it is too hard to work with this kind of intensive program. THAT is when she found out why her efforts were thwarted. OF Course her dad ( my ex) had PLENTY of money that he could have paid for her education, he JUST did not want her going into Music Therapy because I was a musician and he thought that was worthless. I feel so bad for my daughter because what was done really affected her self-esteem for the rest of her life.
