They were just called The Impressions - Curtis never took lead billing. Yes, it's a classic and Rod and Beck do a good version but nowhere near as good as the original. Spoiled by Beck's OTT guitar. Anybody who bought and heard the original will know what I mean. Missed the soul of the original.

Losing Jeff Beck was hard. I took guitar lessons in grammar school because of Beck and Clapton. Turns out my fingers aren’t long enough, or weren’t in 7th grade. Watching my heroes slip away has been really hard. Rod and Jeff performed a lot together. Rod Stewart better live forever. I just couldn’t take that.

Both Jeff and Rod is giants in thier own world...started early 1960-ties. However Jeff is absolutely a mastodont. He´s the guy who inspirered Jimmi Hendrix, who was looked over his shoulder by people like Jimmi Page, Clapton and many others. Recently I saw an interview of Alice Cooper who told a story of Jeff about how he held his guitar in the fretboard...let it drop and at the same time playing perfect triplets on its way down...only to catch it at the end. Amazing musician

Beck had an extraordinarily long career. What made Beck stand out was how he morphed his guitar prowess into so many different styles and genres, allowing him to always be contemporary. You can find outstanding instrumentals from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's, 10's, 20's......Jeff left hits in 7 decades of an immaculate career. For his early work, sample Freeway Jam, Pork Hat Pie, El Becko, and compare those to his more recent works where he played in the techno-house genre like What Mama Said, Space For The Papa, Roy's Toy. And, Jeff Beck is the world's greatest guitarist. Sorry Jimi, you were great, but Jeff brought out almost impossible sounds out of a Strat.

Jeff Beck was world-class and legendary. His guitar should be the headstone on his grave site. From the Yardbirds to the Jeff Beck Group to his solo material, he spent as much time in Jeff Beck's Garage under the hood of cars as he did working on his guitar work. His playing was always thoughtful and passionate. In high school, we used to discuss the thought of both him and Jimmy Page together in Led Zeppelin after the demise of the Yardbirds. Since Beck didn't much sing his addition would have been a glorious expansion of an already unique roster. But he and Rod Stewart were good partners. Listen to the scorching solo he added to the song INFATUATION. As for Jeff's own work I have two suggestions. The first from the Jeff Beck Group, GOIN' DOWN. And the second is more recent. It's called LIVE IN THE DARK. It is a masterpiece that threatens to break open the sky with the silo breaking through the gathering storm. As for Rod Stewart, listen to voice take on a rare beauty as he sings HAVE I TOLD YOU LATELY? from the MTV Unplugged session. R.I.P. Jeff.

Mission accomplished. Made me grin. ✌🏻 Jeff Beck’s catalog is gigantic, covers blues, rock, metal, jazz, fusion, pop, gospel and believe it or not, opera. His instrumentals are legendary. “Because We Are Ended as Lovers” was written by Stevie Wonder but Jeff takes it to an entirely different level. No vocals required, the guitar tells the story. Also suggest his cover of The Beatles “A Day In The Life” especially the version live a r Ronnie Scott’s

If you want to see the unique way Jeff plays guitar, react to "Pork Pie" Live from Ronnie Scott's. It's as intimately filmed as SRV's Texas Flood Live at the El Mocambo. The other musicians are excellent, and it's a perfect example of why he's so completely different than every other guitar player. The camera stays closeup on his playing, and it's amazing. Later on in this concert, he brings out his friend Eric Clapton for a couple of blues songs, and Robert Plant and Jimmy Page are in the audience. Many English guitar players knew each other from SW London: Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Pete Townshend of The Who, Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple, and others. And when Jimi Hendrix came to England in 1966, they all saw him play, and Jeff thought he'd need to find another line of work!

The entire 'Truth' album is exceptionally good. Another debut album, for both Stewart and Beck, that was based on Blues songs from the south (many artists 'discovered' blues greats around this time). Stewart and Beck would have riffs that echoed each other, guitar and voice. It had the best vocals from Stewart ever, who after this went into a more pop direction. Every track is worth a First Hearing review. Of note, 'Beck's Balero' uses an echoplex with a long delay to allow Beck to, excuse the phrase, play with himself. You need to hear it to know what I mean.

So many singers have covered this old Curtis Mayfield song, but this cover from 1985 is by far my favorite. This is because of the combination of Beck's gorgeous guitar playing and Stewart's raspy vocals. I agree with the other commenters who say this us the perfect tribute song for Beck. May he rest in peace in Rock 'n Roll Heaven.

Both Jeff Beck and the Yardbirds were pioneers, and way underappreciated. The Yardbirds produced 3 of the top 10 best guitarist ever: Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page (All of whom were Knighted at the same time, by the Queen). Jeff is attributed with the earliest Psychedelic sound (which drove Clapton from the group), and I also believe the first artist to destroy his guitar on stage. Alice Cooper said he was the greatest player of all time. He was a very private person and didn't want to be on tour but preferred to be home and raise his family. So, he traded fame for family, however he became the most sought-after studio musician in the world and played with the best.
@gtrgar4561
@gtrgar4561 Год назад
Clapton left the Yardbirds when they started to drift away from the Blues towards a more popular style. The Yardbirds then asked Jimmy Page to step in, but Page was still happy as a Studio musician/producer. Page recommended Beck. Page stepped into the Yardbirds when their bassist quit. Page was just to fill in until a permanent bassist was ready. Then Page and Beck both played guitar until Beck couldn't stand touring and went back England and his family.

This Canadian artist was born blind yet still managed to become one of the worlds greatest guitarists & songwriter. He plays sitting with his guitar on his lap & every performance is deeply emotional. Sadly he passed away much too young in 2008. Their first album, Truth, is incredible. If you'd like to hear more, I'd suggest checking out Let Me Love You Baby, Ain't Superstitious, and the awesome cover of Ole Man River. The album is as legandary as the members in the band!

More Jeff Beck please. A unique talent. So much to explore. If you like David Gilmore's playing (and I know you do) I think you'd have to love Jeff.

The word unique was meant for Jeff Beck. He gave Rod Stewart his big break in the Jeff Beck Group. You should listen to ‘ I Ain’t Superstitious’ from the ‘Truth’ album 1968 featuring Rod Stewart. Also Jeff Beck’s. version of Nessum Dorma with full Orchestra. Jeff in his time was invited to join the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd. His group was also invited to play at Woodstock but typically Jeff did his own thing and returned to the UK and they never appeared on it !

YES!!! You finally got around to Jeff Beck. He was one of the best guitar masters in the world. Might I suggest you look into his works at the Crossroads? The stuff he does with Tai Wilkenfeld is pretty awesome too, I especially like "Cause We've Ended As Lovers". Jay would like the long bass solo she plays.

Jeff Beck was so low key and so cool, I don't think the average rockers out there relieze he literally created a guitar genre we came to know as the modern day rock guitarist.

Please, please, react to more Jeff Beck! There are so many to choose from, and they will touch you, take you to a whole nother place. I'd suggest: Where Were You, Goodbye Pork-Pie Hat, Since We've Ended as Lovers, God so so many lovers. BTW Stevie Wonder wrote 'Since We've Ended...' For Jeff Beck! That's a great place to start. And once you start, you just won't want to stop!

This song was first released in 1965 by The Impressions. Jeff does a stellar guitar performance while Rod's vocal solo just beautiful. The instruments, especially the organ, make a wonderful backing. It's been covered by Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, Chamber Btothers, Vanilla Fudge, to name a few. People Get Ready, was in reference to passing on, catching the train that took you to the promise land. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️ ❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦
