1. The Baratie set is real. Everything is practical there. 2. Mihawk's ship can be seen in episode 1 in the harbor as he was there for Roger's execution 3. Mihawk kinda just got lucky. He didn't have precise location or any direction really for Luffy. He was just listening to Usopp's story out of genuine interest, and then he turned when he heard Luffy's name mentioned. 4. In case you missed it, Pearl's dead body is also on the ground near Krieg. They made that entire elaborate goofy ass costume for someone to wear it in the background lying down for two seconds. 5. *Spoiler* Clarus offhandedly saying "slavery is bad" out of nowhere is oddly prescient for the rest of the season.

Yeah, the Baratie is where they change and condense a LOT, as in the biggest change is offing Don Krieg in one scene and instead just swap to Mihawk dueling Zoro as a focus. From here a Lot of reshuffling to get through 3 more episodes and get to an important end point to end the 1st season. But it's done quite well, remember this is an adaptation, not just covering the series again. (Oh also Mihawk's coffin boat can be spotted during the camera pan at the prologue of Roger's execution shown in the harbor)

Yes. Baratie (and the Going Merry, and several other pirate ships) are all real. They built those things. (Another reason I suggest the 1980 Popeye movie as a companion piece. It was back before CGI, so they BUILT THE WHOLE TOWN OF SWEETHAVEN AS A SET. It was meant to be a functioning town, the cast and crew lived and slept on set during the shoot. It's STILL STANDING--they locals turned it into a Popeye-themed theme park).

It's worth noting that in the anime, Mihawk was hunting down Don Krieg. so it makes a lot more sense why Mihawk suddenly shows up at the Baratie. Instead of randomly popping up there from where ever he was when Garp contacted him.
@benediktmathes2528
@benediktmathes2528 5 месяцев назад
What? He knew where the Strawhats approximately were (from the Garp encounter) and going for the ship on the ocean to get some info is the smartest thing to do. Also he obviously was close by, because the Don Krieg part is still near the Baratie, otherwise Gin couldn't have been there. It makes so much more sense than the random encounter in the manga tbh. One of the few changes that made it better imo.
@Nate9-9
@Nate9-9 5 месяцев назад
@@benediktmathes2528 Most (granted, not all) of the changes in the Live Action do make sense. Whether you like the changes that is another question, a subjective one. but your explanation here is a bit inaccurate. As of the Live action alone, the pirate Sanji fed is not identified as Gin, and also is not explained to have any connection he might have with Krieg. Despite what we know from the source material. I have read the manga, and watched the anime, but I am attempting to look at this through an objective lens of someone is not familiar with either. With all this said, where is the proof that Krieg, and Mihawk were fighting near the Baratie, in the East Blue? When Garp specifically tells him to go to the East Blue.
@tylerlangston7538

@@benediktmathes2528I’m a couple weeks late for this, but the anime explains that Gin and Krieg’s crew were in the grand line when they were attacked by Mihawk and were saved by one of the grand line’s signature freak storms. Mihawk appeared at Baratie because he was chasing down the targets that managed to escape. He left because he had gained a newfound trust in Zoro and Luffy, and seeing as how Luffy was already engaged in battle with Don Krieg, he let him take care of it.

In the Anime Mihawk is far more emotional. "GROW STRONG. I WILL HOLD THE SEAT OF STRONGEST UNTIL THEN." He was very animated. But the same goes for Zoro imo.
@Lothiril
@Lothiril 5 месяцев назад
Animation is almost always more animated than life action. The facial expressions, the movements, the voice acting - all of that gets exaggerated in animation, real people just don't walk and talk like that. In that way it's a lot easier for animation to be more emotional. In this case, pacing is another reason of course - the anime has more time to properly build up the emotions for important scenes.
@chaost4544
@chaost4544 5 месяцев назад
The live action shows the facial animations in anime will never match up to what a real life actor's expressions are. The nuance of human expression just can't be captured accurately in animation; regardless of how epic the line might be.

To answer why Mihawk got to Baratie so quick: He was already chasing Don Krieg's crew in both the anime and live action. In the anime, we know that Don Krieg's ship was headed toward the direction of the Baratie (he wasn't targeting Baratie at first, just trying to escape Mihawk). So when Garp called Mihawk in the live action, he was already very close by assuming Kreig was still running in the direction of the Baratie. We see evidence of this by the fact that Gin (Krieg's crewmate) shows up to the baratie before Mihawk.

Gin is talking about how everyone died in the grand line and that they should turn back and not think of finding the one piece? You´re right on the swords looking like a cross. An interesting fact I learned recently is that the 4kids dub of the anime actually censored them, to look less "religious". (There´s a very interesting video about it you can find on YT.) They shortened the cross-guard (side parts) on the big sword, and completely removed it on the small one. In my mind, I tend to compare Mihawk to those random legendaries you can come across in Pokemon games at a tiny, tiny chance. He's immensely bored and his actions are quite unpredictable as a whole. The outfits in this series are all over the place, so it is okay for them to be all over the place in the live action, too. It does not nail itself down to one particular era or region: at one moment, you see a classical type of pirate like the one Sanji beat up in this episode, the next you'll see someone in a white tuxedo with a marine coat, and at yet another moment you have this weird kid in a straw hat and a tshirt, etc. I think the wide variety in outfits are in themselves a display of how varied this world is and how much the world and people can change depending on the place you visit: It is just that we as an audience need to get over that initial hump of seeing the fashion as being directly linked to the eras we associate them with. Baratie was indeed entirely built in physical form. It's such a mammoth task and you can tell just how much budget they put into its creation, but by not having it cgi it makes the world feel so much more real that it was honestly a really genius move to commit to. The upcoming moments hit hard and are by no means bad. I do feel that one of them was changed too much and that it left a slightly impression of characters we love, but I don't think it will create any long term issues. But by all means, do make up your own mind in that regard!

I saw a reviewer describe Luffy as the heart of the Straw Hats, and Nami as the crew's "Lone, overworked brain cell."

I mean, that is very accurate to them even now.

Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji - have no fear, that affects decision making. Robin - world history, issues, and news (one of the only people in the world that can read ancient languages) Chopper - healing pretty much anything Jinbe - Dude is smart Usopp - Threat Level assessment (when Nami is blinded by greed) I really hope the live-action doesn't play up the "smart girl, surrounded by dumb boys" trope too much. Rolling your eyes at people who are acting stupid, but having fun, doesn't make you smart. Let Nami have some stupid fun, like she occasionally does in the anime. Loved the scene with the guys ribbing her.
@Phanthief95
@Phanthief95 5 месяцев назад
@@CyGea They’ll probably continue with that for Nami, especially because she couldn’t express her true feelings due to her ties to Arlong. Now that Luffy freed her from those ties, Nami can be her true self. Also, what would Franky & Brook be?
@CyGea
@CyGea 5 месяцев назад
@@Phanthief95 Franky - Master craftsman and inventor Brook - Musical genius All of the crew are smart in their own way. Sanji - cooking, nutrition, and resource management Zoro - combat Luffy - Rizz

I feel like moving the garp story up works really well. They tried to do the same with cowboy bebop by inserting vicious more into the story but that meant making up story and they reworked every story to somehow be worse with twice the screentime. Basically it's like cowboy bebop had less to work with so they tried to make shit up. But with one piece they have too much to work with so a lot gets cut out changed but it still works

It's not just that Oda like Christian imagery. Oda draws a lot of influence for One Piece from many world religions throughout history. It will become more obvious as you get deeper in the story. There is a very important character you will meet later on that carries a Bible.

@Nerdy Nightly, 9:52 They are not on Earth, @Claruspolaris. This story takes place in a world that is like 90% ocean, so ignore the sneakers, neon lights cigarettes, and any other thing from our world you take issue with--this story isn't taking place in the 1400s and not on our world.

Mihawk was pursuing Don Krieg all the way from the Grand Line and he showed up after Krieg left to give 100 meals to his crew. Then, when they are ready to attack Baratie, Mihawk arrives and cut's the Galleon in half.

Fashion in One Piece is so funny. It's high fantasy and the clothes have always been purposely blended to not perfectly match any era in fashion or style.

If you managed to get thru ep. 3 & 4, buckle up. The general consensus is that ep. 3-4 were the low point of the series (tho still pretty good). Ep. 5 is great, as you just saw. Ep. 6 & 7 are amazing, & ep. 8 absolutely sticks the landing better than almost any series finale I've seen in recent memory outside of The Mandalorian Season 2.

The live action changes a significant amount of the story at various points. It's frustrating to me, but for the most part I think it still maintains the _character_ of the story. Some of the more emotional scenes may not necessarily have the punch they had in the anime, but they're still well done. I do think you will enjoy the rest of this run.
