Let's make a list of everything he did wrong: - Poured old oil back in at the end - Reinstalled old bearings (new bearings don't come wrapped in stretch foil) - Hammering those bearings on shafts could be acceptable if he made sure that piece of wood didn't contact outter sleeve (which he did not) - Hammering centering pins AFTER bolts were tightened (you are supposed to install centering pin first than tighten the bolts) - That lock nut which holds the flange is supposed to be installed with lock washer to prevent it from loosening - No assembly lube used, pretty bad for running in - All surfaces which need to seal (bearing caps, flanges etc.) should be stoned to remove any high spots or burrs - At 20:07 two more errors can be observed, first that shaft seal is in horrible condition and needs to be replaced. Second you painted the surface on the flange on which the shaft seal lip runs on. It will either not seal at all or the lip (or whats left of it) will wear out extremely fast - 2 of the 4 mounting bolt holes are broken and should have been repaired by brazing or welding on some material and machining afterwards I don't understand why you make these videos when you clearly don't understand what you are doing. Just my two cents. P.S. Sorry for bad english, not my primary language :)

OK job - just a few issues. 1. Grease: I would use assembly grease when putting the thing back together. 2. Gaskets: Seems like there were some metal to metal points - I would replace gaskets with something and not depend on a metal to metal seal; 3. New Bolts ? - Those first four bolts you removed holding the base to something look like new bolts someone just put dirt on. 4. Hitting Painted surfaces - It would seem a bit better solution to place a wood piece against the painted surfaces and hit the wood piece instead of banging a newly painted surface directly. 5. Bearing Installation - I do not believe I would hammer on bearings like that - need a better process for installing race bearings. 6. I think I would use chemicals (perhaps simply vinegar) to remove the rust or as much rust as possible and then a wire brush or something similar.

This is painful to watch. This gearbox isn't gonna work for long.

You should have just pressure washed it and used a mop to paint it at least you could have saved a few hours and got the same result

Wash the old bearings out and wrap them in shrink wrap and pretend they are new- assemble them all bone dry. Use old seals and have them riding on painted seal surfaces.

when you opened the thing up and it looked so damn good inside I knew this was going to be a great item to restore. Sure the outside was a mess but the core was well worth saving.

Механик недоучка,покрасил старые сальники,не поменял и не смазал подшипники,в трех-пяти литровый картер залил пол-литра масла и тд и тп.А забивать подшипник ножкой от табурета- шедеврально😂👍.

No grease on the bearings or gears when reassembling and then you put half a cup of black used oil in at the end !?! It would probably have lasted longer if you had not 'restored ' it.

In my opinion, if you don't know precisely what you are restoring, what are technical specifications of it, what is function of it, what is function of all parts, what are the checks you need to carry out to determine if the part/parts meets the quality parameters or not, what is scientific / proper technical methed to repair/restore the part, what proper tools would need for restoration, what safety measures would need to take during restoration, what performance parameters such assembly needs to meet after restoration...then better get yourself aware of it before starting any repairs / restoration activity and then ensure that you follows/meets such scientific / technical practices and provides performance results as per product specification (especially when you are dealing with major assemblies like gear box or so). This will bring quality in your job as well as boost up your confidence and knowledge. Wishing you all the best.

Use grease in the bearings.

1 there’s this thing called grease 2 with the seals don’t paint the surfaces 3 use NEW oil and use a lot more than the shot glass thst u put in 4 hammering bearings like that will ruin them (the “new” ones you put in) and the filler job thst you put on was poor

You ought to show your face at times. I certainly would enjoy seeing your face as you do these different channels.

I know you're just making due with what you have but there were a couple things that you can do in the future to make things work better. #1 dowel pins go in before the bolts. #2 you should have cleaned the seal surface on the output flange. It was painted! The paint will wipe out the seal (that should have been replaced also) #3 I would have thoroughly oiled all the internal parts during assembly. I mean drenched the stuff. Keep going!

What machine or process was it used with? What are two gear ratios? Which ratio gears had the greatest wear? Any idea on the maximum input rpm or rated kw/hp? What was shaft stub opposite the clutch lever for? Is the hole above the clutch lever shaft just a vent or breather?

Didn't replace the oil seal at 20:19. so it will let oil through and, in general, did not put any gaskets apart from between 2 blocks + the oil seals had to be changed

Watch enough of these (my mechanics, Rescue & Restore, etc.) and you learn what a good, clean restoration looks like. How things are cleaned, how they're restored, how they're reassembled. And while it's worth pointing out that that those guys seldom do things this big and that those guys have all sorts of tools and equipment for their projects, there's some techniques and eyes to detail they have that don't cost anything. This video however serves as a great example of bad restore. Bad color, bad sanding, bad restoration (too little oil and it appears used, no grease on the bearings, etc.). I'm not a mechanic or anything, but hammering gears into slanted gears just seems painfully, obviously wrong. So in that regard, I consider it a "good" video just to make me appreciate better the skill and attention to detail in others' projects.

Why do you clean and wrap the old bearings? Assemble without oil? this is a farce! Also, who taught you to hammer on the outer race of a bearing.....? What insanity to fit old damaged seals? How are you expecting the old seals to work on painted surfaces? Plus, you must first fit the locating dowels before you tighten the bolts, which each require at least a spring washer. What a waste of time reassembling like this. This is terrible workmanship!

I hate when thses guys put filler on top of rust to make it look good. Butures. Sandblast is the proper way to restore. Looked ugly and nasty at the end

What is this restoration? You didn't even have to disassemble it to paint it. With a hammer to the bearing - clearly the best way to mount. And do you think it will work without oil? Why use something that can't be used for anything. Wheels are spinning, but do they function? Just completely useless work.

Hhmmm... I don’t see the Restauration to be honest. It’s disassembling with hammer, cleaning, painting over rust and filler, assembling with hammer bone dry... the gears doesn’t look very healthy... anyway, there is room for improvement I guess. Editing the clip and cut is good, like it!
