Nicely done, except perhaps for fastening to top. Gluing it down traps the top and keeps it from moving relative to the base. Over time, expansion and contraction will cause the top (seat) to buckle and crack.

Wooden turn buckles would work well. Fixed to the underside and turned into slots in the top rails would allow the top to expand and contract without cracking. Often used for table tops. But other than that, an excellent restoration. Subscribed 👍🏻

Ну табуретка, если честно, - изначально не "произведение искусства" или " раритетное антикварное изделие". Заурядная современная конструкция далеко не высшего столярного уровня. А стоит ли давать ей вторую жизнь, учитывая сколько затрат на это ушло в виде материалов, инструмента и труда? При этом она всё равно не приобрела какой-либо ценности, кроме банально утилитарной. Работа, имхо, не оправдана и иррациональна. Так никаких ресурсов Земли не хватит... "реставрировать" всякий хлам с помойки и для этого расходовать дорогие продукты высоких технологий, химии, металлургии и промышленности. Мастеру конечно плюс за саму работу и минус за идею с конкретным табуретом.... ну разве что реклама возможностей (для привлечения клиентов) или "профессиональный фетиш" и "тщеславие мастера".

Thank you for not getting mad with me. I spent many years making a living from restoring antique furniture. The beauty of hand rubbed french polish is its thinness. Corners are not rounded as they are when spraying. The spray polish sits on the surface, not part of the wood. Being so thin french polish brings depth to the wood. Cheers.

Do not disagree that French polish brings out the beauty of wood & has clearly shown that its value as a finish has met the test of time. However, I also believe that more modern finishing techniques are useful for certain types of furniture use & types of wood. Waterlox Oil Finish with a hard wax top is much easier to upkeep for a high use piece, particularly, for a piece that might suffer from water damage. While I'm not fond of oil- based poly, I do find a coat of shellac, followed by water-based poly is very durable finish for a piece that sees extreme use, especially when a hard wax is applied. I will admit my thoughts on this issue have evolved over time. I love the beauty of wood, but I also see a need for practicality at times.

When I first saw this stool I thought there was no way it was worth restoring - it was just so bad. But you have done a remarkable job on this and it looks quite beautiful. It is so very rustic and homely, it would look perfect placed in a kitchen next to a fire, so you can sit and warm your hands and toes after coming home on a cold winter night. Beautiful restoration! I am so glad you took the time & trouble to peg it instead of dozens of nails! I just sub’d as you are now one of my 4 fav. Furniture restorers! ( Along with AT’s, John’s, Flipping Drawers!)Others would have either pitched the whole thing or completely replaced huge parts of it! Great job! I can’t wait to see what else you find to fix!
